Oh my god! What IS this - - a Saturday Night Live skit with Lang Lang as a guest player? NEVER has the somber opening of this concerto been treated as a musical parody as we have here. The pretentiously overly slow tempo, the hilarious "slo-mo" approach to the low "F's" "poked" with middle finger), the left arm rising higher and [cough] HIGHER with each loudening chord, and then swerving way over toward the orchestra - - this is real "Show Business, folks! To make such an outlandish spectacle of himself in front of the orchestra takes guts, or rather, a degree of supreme arrogance never before seen in a performer. I didn't bother to hear anything beyond this comedic (actually, repulsive) introduction, and I don't care if he played the rest of the piece like a heaven-sent angel - - this beginning was for me an immediate show ender. He has no shame whatsoever, and he SHOULD appear in a SNL skit. He'd be a smash.
What an absolute thrill to see Yang Yang playing with this young orchestra! Their maestro is in heaven towards the end of the piece! Very hardworking orchestra, Yang Yang seems to know everyone's part as he conducts just as much as their wonderful teacher, no pressure or anything... Bravo to all who played in this practice! I'm sure your concert will be fabulous, and very, very memorable!
Love Lang Lang he is unique coming from so emotions & love in his 💓 being. Such an inspiration to all musicians at younger ages & older like moi, I'm 83 yrs old started at 4yrs. old but so enthralled with LangLang & his students.
I think he knew the piece inside out, and had spare energy to mind the first violin's rapport with his piano and the stage setting works in the background. Good experience to be face to face with him.
What a thrill for this young orchestra, except when Lang Lang deals with your section! Poor flutist and concert master, Lang Lang knows this piece inside and out AND the accompaniment. He's always excellent in his ability to play with an orchestra not just accompany an orchestra. Now we see why!
Yang Yang is giving a masterclass to this young orchestra on how to play this piece. No pressure or anything, oboist or concert master! This young orchestra won't soon forget the thrill of playing with this virtuoso! The Maestro is in heaven ~ who wouldn't be? He could play this in his sleep ~ it's mac and cheese to him... I'll never play again
Always such great music. I wonder what Maestro Lang thinks of the Chinese opera that was popular during the cultural revolution¿ I also wonder if it is hard for the Chinese students to read and understand Western music¿ There is such a vast cultural difference between Western and Chinese culture.
i wonder if lang lang has considered expanding his career as a conductor. He has played with countless maestros so far and has definitely learned more and understand the pieces better than some mediocre conductors...
Agree, because footage taken under very difficult and restricted location due to site situation, particularly the (deliberate?) loud coughing from another rude and inconsiderate camera man next to me filming for a commercial production company. That man should be thoroughly ashamed of himself for his disgraceful and unprofessional conduct.
I would suggest that's a result caused by the ones filming, the room it's being played in and the fact that the piano is out of tune. I think some of the woodwinds are flat, too.

Always the best, no matter what Lang Lang plays!
Lang Lang wasn't one of my favourite pianists. But I heard his Chopin concerto
3:38 this man was playing Chopin’s concerto while warmup

不得不说贝森朵夫那深沉、浑厚的爆发力,太适合拉二这种浪漫主义艺术。
Only Langlang!
Yes, he is in a way privileged by courtesy of the conductor, and for good reason.

do you know when this video was taken?
2008, shown in the film right from start.
famous beginning, but later is just chasing speed
I am enjoying watching this video very much !! piano sound like out of tune , not as good as Steinway & Son !!! Thank for post !
U Elrington have to agree with the piano comment, give me. a Steinway, every time he plays, but he is awesome!
Some piano keys are not in tune………..
Чёрт те что.
video and sound are horrible
