    Despite being an old geriatric, I am just beginning to try to learn how to record myself and make simple(ish) multi-screen videos just like this, but every 'instructional video' I've found seemed to over complicate matters and go into far more technical depth than I need for MY silly musical abilities. But THIS video has given me EXACTLY the info I need and can use. Thank you so much Katie - and by the way, you play beautifully! Best regards, Dave - over here in rainy England.

    Thank you - quite helpful. I had less hassle with the audio because I recorded and edited parts in Reaper separately - then there was just one audio wav to paste in, but your technique was exactly what I needed to deal with the video. One thing I discovered - on my slower computer (and a longer tune), I had to be a little patient with the layer saving. I was trying to do layer 2 after layer 1 before layer 1 finished, and was frustrated until I took a break. (Also appreciate your skill on flute as someone who quit flute after 9th grade.)

    Katie, if you hard drive storage is filling up you may need to delete your rendered files.
    Go to Movie>Preferences> Delete Rendered files. I use Final Cut Pro and I saw a step to tun off background rendering and it changed my world. Every time you render your video it is creating a complete new set of rendered files and they grow exponentially. I basically filled up a 500GB hard drive with three or four 30 minute video projects. Great tutorial!

    Thank you for the wonderful tips and it truly shows how much efforts you put into your video! Much appreciated. I was using that split video which really crops the video up and thanks for the picture in picture tip. :) Truly hated that quality in accapella and as a suggestion maybe you can try to connect the mic using some cable directly to the camera to save you the time and struggle of clapping and lining up the audio... Had some issues with that as the video and audio might sync in beginning but runs off by a few seconds near the 8-10 minutes mark if it is like a recital long video around 20 minutes or more.

    • @bradporeda
      @bradporeda 4 роки тому

      Final Cut Pro X has a huge advantage with this kind of project. (1) It will auto-sync clips together based on their audio track, saving trying to eyeball the audio waveforms, and (2) It allows for multiple video clips to be stacked in the same project, allowing for any number of "picture-in-picture" combinations.
      In short, while it took Katie four (4) different projects steps (files) to assemble this in iMovie, FCPX will let you do it in a single step (file). Throw all of your clips into a project, sync, stack, and you're done.
      The best part is that FCPX and iMovie share the same underpinnings and interface layout (made by the same programmers), so it's very easy to move up to FCPX.
