- Kyle is in San Diego with Hyundai’s newest electric car! In this video he takes you for a first drive of the IONIQ 5, this one being an AWD Limited fully specced model. He first takes you on a tour of the vehicle and then jumps in the car and drives it on the highway, in the city, and in the mountains.

Who’s pumped for this car? So many tests we have to do once we can get our hands on it for an extended period of time. It’ll be sold in ZEV states and about 8 others at launch but then expanding to sales in all 50 states once supply can catch up with demand. I think the supply with be this car’s biggest issue! Good luck getting one as I’m sure everyone will be lined up for these.
The way you described the Ioniq 5 is exactly the kind of car I want: Adult, refined but still fun to drive.
I’m in UK and I’ve owned a top-spec LR AWD IONIQ 5 for 3 months now, and I completely concur with Kyle’s initial comments regarding how enjoyable this car is to drive. I also use 1 pedal driving all the time, and it will stop and hold on even a fairly steep slope. Overall, this is a fabulous car to drive, and extremely comfortable. The ability to remotely set pre-heating is also very useful, as it works anywhere, even when not connected to external power, using the Bluelink app. Superb visibility, including 360 deg cameras when reversing, make it very easy to position accurately on the road, despite its size. As you might have gathered, I really love this car. With respect to V2L, in UK the output is 3.6kW, and I have demonstrated I can run my house from this car for everything except the main cooker. Awesome.
Fun fact: the Ioniq 5 had more new registrations in Germany in November 2021 than either of the MEBs Skoda Enyaq or ID4 or Q4 Etron. 😲
Picked up our Galactic Grey AWD 5 days ago...haven't stopped smiling yet. I watched literally hundreds of youtube reviews and read articles but still every day finding something new to surprise and delight me. Friends were puzzled when we changed a BMW for Hyundai but I can say definitely they are on a par. Well done Hyundai

My brother just purchased this Hyundai IONIQ 5 2022 this past week. He's ecstatic about it, he has noticed several people taking pictures of it while he's driving or even at a stop light . He says it drives smooth and when calls are received the person on the call their face will pop up on the screen ( He told our older sister not to call him lol ) I love the look inside and out the headlights are awesome , the screen along the dashboard is awesome the wheels are stoke 9eco tire) the interior looks elegant the sunroof is nice, the BOSE system is sick , ya need to check it out go for a spine , Im glad he got one so I can ride in it when visiting (California) , he has the TOP OF THE LINE and I'm so happy for him he deserves it .. If you want to get rid of the delay from a stand still, keep it out of I-pedal and Auto Hold. Then it launches way harder! I’ve got an RWD here in Sweden (delivery times on AWD are ridiculous here). Not as powerful of course , but not as anemic as you’d might think. And surprisingly tail happy! You don’t see that very often anymore. Fun!
After UA-cam reviews I had planned to buy Kia Ev6 rather than Ioniq5. But I test drove both cars last week and decided immediately to order the Ioniq 5. I just loved the interior space and styling.
This is a seriously important EV - bringing 800V architecture to the masses and the crazy fast charging that comes with it. Range is much less of a factor when charging is so fast. I’m pumped to see these on the road, mostly because they look so great.
Bought one about 2 months ago. Incredibly pleased with the EV so far, havent regretted it even once
Agree 100% about white or light interior. I’ve never had a wear/excessive maintenance issue, even with 3 dogs. Black interiors show every spec of dust and are unbearably hot in summer.
Watching reviews, I can't help but thinking of the Ioniq 5 as a grown up GTI. Bigger, faster, more responsible without losing the GTI fun factor.

Great preview Kyle. Super excited for this next gen EV. Let’s just celebrate how far Kia/Hyundai have come and out completely from the shadow of Japanese manufacturers. They are now light years ahead of Toyota and Honda.
Crazy how much performance, technology, practical features, fast charging, design and engineering comes in one package. it blows away the competition at that value.
watched several of these Ionic 5 review today and I'm glad to see yours of course! plus I like that yours has the light colored interior. with that white bezel around the screens it looks better with the light interior....sticks out like a sore thumb in the all black interior. My current lease on my 2021 Volvo ends in the spring of 2023 and by then I think I'll have a real plethora of options across several brands for choice....I really want my next vehicle to be be electric and fingers crossed by 2023 my little town with have EV charging or I've moved to a place I can charge while parked at home...Great informative first impression of the Hyundai Ionic 5 Kyle!
