Just one thing to watch out for when using JB Weld on electronics is that some formulas have metal particles in suspension in the resin portion so could lead to arcing especially if you grind the passages for the wires too close to each other or too close to the board in the CDI. Found this out the hard way on battery holders on cameras when resetting the contacts as it caused a parasitic draw between the positive and negative that would cause the batteries to run down in a short time even when they were turned off. Best!

This is excellent. I've yet to need to replace the spark plug wires on my 750sxi or 650sx, but sooner or later it'll happen. Will undoubtedly help out MANY pwc enthusiasts. Thanks Jim!
Always fun to watch these things getting done. 👍 But for someone like me, that barely got a summer, maybe getting a watertemp of 20˚c (68˚f).... Jetskis barely exits around here... 😂 Have a good one Jimmy! Best wishes from Sweden.
Great video Jimmy! Was you a Dentist in a past life? Watching you use the die grinder, then the pick tool, and the way you were man handling that thing while using the pick on it, kinda reminded me of my last visit to the Dentist! LOL😂 Have a great Memorial weekend Jimmy!
@@jetskijim007 awesome!! You are the best, I have been watching all the videos of yours I can as I restore this ski for the first time. I have a round body carb but I assume it would be the same. Bought a used kawasaki 650 engine was told that had been rebuilt installed in jet ski one time you start it it runs the right direction some time when you start it runs backwards check timing on flywheel it is on the mark any ideals whats wrong?
Does the check valve let air into the fuel tank, or do you use it to let excess pressure out? I have mine letting air in and noticed when it got hot sitting on trailer some fuel leaked into the engine compartment.
Correct, on the oem check valves they will pop off and release pressure to keep it from building pressure and damaging the tank. The chinese ebay ones do not, and you need to crack loose the fuel cap when not riding, so as to not overpressure the tank...
This system is a wasted spark system. Meaning both wires fire every time. So there is no difference in the two wires. They both originate from the same coil winding.
Hey Jim just recently found you and loving the info and knowledge you have!! I’m going to change my spark plugs on my wife’s 1992 x2 to b7es. Had a couple questions. She has some cavitation issues and I was curious if a pump stuffer or a scooped intake grate would help more. Also I have a 750 big pin in a gen 2 x2 and was curious what spark plugs you would recommend on that. Ski has a pipe, timing advance, milled head 15 thousands.
Absolutely. I like to radius the entry into the intake tract opening as well. I helps a lot. As for the 750 engine, you have to run 8's in them. They will melt with 7's, and if you are running 650 ignition, you want the b8es. If you are running 750 ignition, you have to run the resistor, br8es.
Thanks for the tip on the plug caps! Nice that they cost a bit less than MSDs
Glad you know what you are doing Jim and sharing your knowledge.

I need to order one of those pneumatic die grinders

A lot of fun Jim!
How much Dawn did you get down the Carb....Brave man Jimmy.

Amazing
Much needed video. Can I have the old start stop switch cover?
I like that grinder! Where can I buy it?
I dont remember where i bought mine. It is astro pneumatic brand. 218 is the model. They are on amazon for $38.
I love these videos. Hope you have a great Memorial Day…from Australia, BJ.
What camper are you using for this wires?
Some cheapies i found on ebay. I think they wers like $15 shipped.

What spark plugs 88 650 I can find the video you talk about them in and said get the one with out the resistor stay with the cap
Correct. NGK B7ES. Crimp on spark plug ends. :-)
I assume this can be done with the js550 coil? Any tips on where the needles are?
Yes, on the 440/550 coils the wire is epoxied into the coil as well.

Why do I think that looked a lot easier than it is
It is not bad, seeing that it can be done is what most people struggle with. Start with a bad cdi, it is cheap education. :-)
