The first engine was two 6-71 Detroit Diesels (6 cylinder, 71 cubic inches per cylinder), mated to a reduction gear for marine applications.
Thanks for taking the time for us thanks again
I like the sound of that engine
The radial on the chopper sounds so damn good.
Yeah but why did they call it a rotary?
4:58 The sound of me getting up for work in the morning.
The first engine shown was a Detroit Deisel 6-71 tandem. They originally used 2 Detroit Diesel 4-71 in the Scenic Cruiser bus both to get it rolling then kicked one out at cruising speed. I have worked on the Ford 427 SOHC.
If ya can't buy it, then make it! Is what I always say.
That first engine is a twin Detroit Diesel 6-71 commonly used in boats.
Merlin, like the german 88, versitile. Props @ warp speed.
The first engine is a pair of Detroit 6-71's paired up .
Now if you want to power a tank, you have to buy an engine that’s hard to start, impossible to service, and costs more than the tank.
😆 The TS3 wasn't "high speed" by any means. Redline was lower than 3000 RPMs. It just sounded like it is "high speed" because it is a 2 stroke.
can't buy but can build again..
John Kaase Race Engines out of Georgia makes brand new Ford 427 SOHC engines based on the Ford FE/ Side oiler Block, they are not cheap, but you can buy them, the 427 SOHC is my favorite engine of all time.
5:12
The PRIMARY disadvantage of the sleeve valve was complexity.
The engine from the Rootes ts3 sounded like a diesel truck on a highway
I only watched to see the click bait engine thats seen to advertise the video! They didn't show this one! Got me again
Panhard, French quirky engineering that worked.
The Roots TS3 is better known as a "Commer knocker".
The first motor was a twin Detroit diesel, you can still buy the ford 427's brand new, and the bike had a radial engine not a rotary
The first engine shown was twin GMC tank engine
All other pictures I have seen of a a57 Chrysler look totally different to your video eg L head spark plugs showing not rocker covers !
The Motorcycle didn't have a "ROTARY" engine , it had a multi cylinder "RADIAL ENGINE"...!!!
Rotec 2800 is NOT a rotary engine, it is a radial engine. Very big difference!
The Ford SOHC 427 can still be built with aftermarket parts.

Actually, there WAS one trick used on the Cammer that didn't come from the factory - a GEAR driven camshaft setup replacing that insanely long timing chain and it's VERY large flex factor.
That never made it past the prototype stage, did it?
@@davelowets It was entirely "racer" done, as I recall.
Might have been more than one engine builder that did it, but I'm pretty sure Ford had nothing at all to do with it.
@@bricefleckenstein9666 Yes, it was done by a an individual. Not by Ford.
You could make the print a little bigger
On more research the engine you say is an A57 shows video of a General Motors GM 6406 double 6/71s!
With a rotary radial engine, the cylinders arrangement would have to be balanced. On this bike, they probably had to balance the crank, rods and pistons..... since it was running in the inverse of how it was designed.
Bristol Blenheim bomber used sleeve valves.
great job. the first engine is a GM diesel, not an A57 Chrysler
the colour two cylinder banks and superchargers give that away!
The "Chrysler 5 Bank" is actually a twin 6-71 Detroit Diesel. No Chrysler 5 bank engine shown in this video.
#1 is a twinpack DDA 6-71's set 2 strokes engines. 2 Valves fuel rail heads. Dead giveaway is the blowers......
The Cizeta didn't have a central gearbox - it's a central flywheel and power takeoff to avoid flex from having a too-long crankshaft. The gearbox took power from this central point, but it was definitely not a "central gearbox, with a V8 on either side of it..." as there is no way you could fit two V8s _and_ a gearbox within the width of even a ridiculously-wide car like this (remember, the "T" in V16T stands for "transverse" - the engine is sideways across the car.) The gearbox was just behind the engine in the usual position.
First one is not a Multibank. The Multibank had 5 flathead Chrysler straight 6s on a broad arrow style common block geared together.
The Rotec engine is NOT a rotary engine. Instead, it is a RADIAL engine.
@2:40 That should be "Radial" not "Rotary". :-)
The man in blue shirt att 4:45 reminds me of a former relative from southern Sweden. He might have swedish roots?
The first engines are Two Detroit Diesel 6-71’s (1) Right hand rotating (1) Left hand rotating into a common marine gear for a boat. Not Chrysler engines.
The first engine does not look like the 5 bank images on Google. They have 5 banks clearly around a central shaft. That thing has two banks.
How drunk do you have to be to put an airplane engine on a motorcycle... This one out did the LT1 V8 I have seen on one bike. Two words for ya: Florida Man. :D
The one at 2:30 is not a rotary engine , it is a radial, which is something quite different. The English language is a beautiful method of communication, but only if it is used correctly
4:32 I'm hoping nobody heard the merlin engine inside, got curious, and came running out that door to see what all the noise and commotion was. Not a great place to have a propeller, especially if it's a fire exit.
MIstake Huge mistake, the Sherman had an aircraft type radial engine the so-called tank engine is a hybrid 6-71 Detriot.
1st engine is a pair of 671 Detroit's... also known as twin jimmies
Also known as those Gawd Damned Scuh-Reem'n Jimmies...
In the cold winter months (minus 30 - minus 50 ish) we could always tell which trucks or buses using jimmy engines were going by on the hiway over a mile away because of that whine.
2:38 thats a radial engine, not a rotary. radials were mostly used in ww2 planes and some modern cesnas.
Every single one of these can be bought from somewhere
That first one looks like two inline 6 Detroit Diesels maybe 71's
5 banks? 30 cylinders? Nope
Well... the first one is NOt the Chrysler multi bank..... it is the GM 6046 twin Detroit power pack from a M4A2
The first is not an A57 Multibank. Looks more like twin block
The first is a GM product
Detroit Diesel engines came in many different setups for different applications
The creator of the video needs to do more research
TS3 I think the germans used something like that in there PT boats.
It was originally a Junkers Jumo all aluminum aircraft diesel engine. Rootes Group got it as part of war reparations and made it into a truck engine, in the 50's and 60's. It was a real 'two-stroke diesel screamer'. Once heard...never forgotten.
Sorry, but the first engine shown does not have 5 chrysler 6 cylinder engines combined into one. It looks more like a dual detroit with blowers.
It's not a rotary engine in the chopper it's a radial engine.
@ 2:40 you called that motor a rotary motor, this is incorrect. This type of engine is called a radial engine.
Ummm...that first video wasn't 5 banks of cylinders. It's 2 Detroit Diesel 6-71's tied side-by-side, for a total of 12 cylinders. 🤦♂️ Who wrote this?
Like someone would buy the Merlin from Leno and like he’d come off of it anyways
The first engine is NOT a Chrysler multibank
Its a GM Twindiesel 6046.
The first one is WRONG. The engine in the video is the GM 6046 NOT the Chrysler A57.
Adivino a que al menos 1 es un 8 cilindros en línea naftero
just saw Paul Sr and Rick in Bizarro World. 3:02
If you cant buy one make one
First engine is NOT a Chrysler A57 multibank...
The first one was not plymouth flat head 6 strapped together it was two DETROIT DIESEL 6-71s pretty much bolted together and they were diesel not gas
One you CAN'T BUY - the Chrysler A-925 - the DOOMSDAY Machine! 426 DOHC HEMI!
first engine is not the chrysler A57 . that jimmy 2 stroke
The frirst engine is not the Chrysler multibank bud the twin Detroit diesel from a M4A2
but if i tell i can build? in thousands of hours with hand work :)
The first engine is not a57 but two Jimmy straight six Detroit .
There is no question that the Merlin V12 was a superior aircraft engine. Those two clowns running it on a test stand, while standing right behind it at high throttle, should have their heads examined! The smallest piece of anything caught airborne in front of that engine would be like a bullet hitting them. Very careless, indeed.
1st engine is a Detroit Diesel?
That was definitely not a multi Bank
First engine is twin diesel sherman tank engine not multibank engine
2:29 radial engine, not rotary.
It's not a rotary engine in that bike, it's a radial engine. Talk about a fundamental error.
thats no an a57...... its a detriot 6046 power pack...... aka 2 6-71's in a power unit
Take a good look at them. In 25 years they will be as ancient and rare as steam engines. The big companies have already began phasing out the fossile power. In some countries more than half of the new car sales are electric. No fun..
The mistakes in this video made me nuts.
Motorcycle engine is not rotary, it's radial.
That is not a rotary engine in the motorcycle. The Rotec is a radial engine developed for use in experimental aircraft. Get your facts straight if you are going to put out information. The engines are also still available in different sizes so your title is wrong also.
ahh, you can still buy a ford cammer... not cheap but available.
hahaha, first one,is definitely NOT a chrysler a57,only deisel i know of that uses blowers and is reversable is a leaktroit.
#1 is 100# wrong ,, it is NOT a chrysler A57 multi bank but a 6046 twin diesel detroit 2 stroke
the engine in that chopper is NOT a rotary engine , its a radial engine , a rotary engine is like a wankel engine , something completely different
Is this a challenge?
I'll show my grandchildren this and say "yes, gather round. We had it good, pistons, crankshafts, valves, cams in more configurations you could imagine. Then came communism through a dc plug socket"
I'm looking at the "Chrysler 5 bank" and laughing at the GMC superchargers in plain sight.
Yep, it's a pair of 6-71 GM Diesels mounted to a common gear case, they were used in tanks possibly Shermans?
The first engine was a Detroit Diesel twin. We had twins and quads for mainly government use. We used inline 6-71's. I worked at Detroit Diesel for 32 years.
The twin Detroit 6-71 powered variants of the Sherman and M10 tanks during WW2. And I believe Higgins boats. The Chrysler A57 is not in the video disappointingly.
2 valve heads with exposed fuel rails...ancient....
I saw those unmistakable Detroit Diesel green valve covers on a ‘flathead’?
@@bitterdrinker it was a turd... just like the flathead 6's they were derived from... and engineering exercise..
I cut my teeth driving 71 screamers at a bus company in the late 70s...damn I miss that distinctive sound. They were virtually indestructible too :-)
That bike doesnt have a rotary engine.... Its a radial engine from an aircraft.
Correct. With the rotary engine the crankshaft is stationary and the cylinders revolve. Quite conman in WWI aircraft like the Sopwith Camel and Fokker Triplane.
You beat me to it.
@@scootergeorge9576 Now that would be a sight to see and a challenge to build!
Scooter George
It’s crazy to watch the cylinders and heads spin with the propeller!
Sounds like a plane
That chopper with the RADIAL engine actually looks good.
The merlin engine is awesome. Thank you!!
i love hearing those engines bro
Fes up, Jay, "behind every good man" ,stands a"great woman ! "!
The sleeve valve radial was perfected by Bristol. First came the Hercules then the Centaurus.
The first engine is a WWII era twin General Motors Detroit Diesel 6-71 tank engine. Or maybe they were used in marine applications. Like the Higgins boats that landed at Normandy. Can't really remember. I do know that the landing craft engines in Saving Private Ryan definitely sounded like screamers, and they were pretty historically accurate in that movie. Two stroke diesel. Twelve cylinders at 71 cubic inches per cylinder. LOVE THE COMMER KNOCKER! There's just something about the sound of two stroke diesels...
Motorcycle has a radial, not a rotary engine. Geez there's a lot of mistakes in the captions for this vid
Exactly correct.
The Rhone rotary engine was built in France back in the thirties. The entire engine and propellor assembly spun around the crankshaft.
Like the Ford 427 at 1:38 Sounds good!
You can still buy brand new Cizeta V16Ts today. Road & Track just did a piece about it.
This was an amazing historical look at some of them. I knew a few of them in passing, but some of these were just WTF HOLYSHIT crazy.
Incroyable moteur ☺😊😀
