    Just did my 50 HP and there WAS NO NEED TO REMOVE ANY PARTS to remove the high pressure, inline filter pictured in the video. The "hardest" part was pulling the sleeve off of the filter after having to clip off two zip ties (one on the sleeve and one holding some wires). It took less than 15 minutes! Very, very easy IF you have room...and I did in my 50 HP.

    I'm glad the 60 HP has plenty of room to easily get to the high pressure filter without removing anything.

    Just the video I needed. Excellent. Now I'll get out in the shop and replace the high pressure fuel filter. Thank you for the detailed video.

    Heads up, for the inline filter you can just take off the lower engine cover. It's only 4 bolts with not nuts, much easier. Still a great video man!

    Your video is the closest thing to a step by step i could find on the 40hp. The 60s look easy lots of room below the 3rd coil. One of the comenters said to remove the lower coweling and get to it from below? Guess i will go see the local guy that knows whats up in the morning.

    Awesome video for the High pressure one , I will be taking mine to Tracker here in memphis, unless I will visit the Blackstock garage on my next visit lol.

    The video was really informative, thanks. I was able to replace the high pressure filter without loosening any bolts, but it wasn’t easy. I have long, thin fingers which helped. Still took me about 30 mins.

    I have a 2004 50hp 4 stroke efi. I didn’t have to remove anything to get to mine. Just the cowl. Probably because someone before me had been in there. Really simple job

      My high pressure filter was buried at the bottom as seen in the video. I couldn’t get my hands through to disconnect anything.

    I like how you magically just poof got that bottom bolt out. I tryed to get my 40hp done today, got the top 2 coils out and changed the plugs, but gave up on the last bolt. I have 2 different 1/4 inch ratchets and man hands. Nope not going to happen😊

    Just did it... All you have to do is remove 2 zip ties. 1 on the filter and the one below so you can slide the filter sleeve down.
    Slide the sleeve down and pop off the filter and clip the new one on. Then reverse and place two new zips. Done.

    Mark, Nice video. Can u answer me this question, on the low pressure filter why can't u just change out the filter by taking the lower bowel off and replace the paper filter. Every time u take that housing off the hoses u losen up the ends of the fuel lines. Even though u put zip ties on. I have seen just the filters on line . Can u help on this. Mercury says they only sell the filter as a hole assembly. Thank.

      I’m not sure I know you can replace the paper filter. I know guys that do. I replaced the whole thing due to its price. It was cheap and easy no issues with fuel lines.

    Good video. My in-line filter coming out the fuel tank clogged. It is between the gas tank and fuel bulb. Can’t find what part to buy. Do you know about this filter? Thanks.

    When job done, do you just pump the rubber primer bulb and system would be good to go? ...all inline air purged?

    Replacing that filter looks about as hard as replacing the spark plugs - on my 2007 4 cylinder. Might as well change them at the same time.

  • @calvinetheridge4749
    @calvinetheridge4749 Рік тому +1

    You can put it on without taking everything off! I just replaced both filters on my 40hp. I used a wire to hold the gas line. And just popped it on.

    This is off topic but on your trim, if you have it trimmed up so that you can go shallow and idle speed or just above idle and give it some gas does your motor slip back down? Like as if you trimmed the motor back down? I noticed that mine does this and I was told it’s a safety feature so that no one tried to drive the boat with the motor in the up position and loose water pressure. To me it seems like the hydraulic cylinder has some leak by maybe. Sorry for the long post. Just wondering if you’ve noticed anything like this.

    • @MarkBlackstock

      yes it does, I myself noticed that recently I am not sure if its normal or not?

      I called mercury marine today and they said it was completely by design that the motor will trim up but fall back dow if it senses a rise in rpm’s. It doesn’t fall all the way back down but down to a safe operating hight.

    What is the part number for that inside filter or do you have to replace the whole unit? And what is the part number for that. Thank you!!

    • @MarkBlackstock
      @MarkBlackstock  2 роки тому

      I replaced the whole thing it’s cheap and they do crack over time so easier to kill two birds with one stone. I don’t know the part number I’m sure a google search will bring it up.

    No, the ifilters a ten minute job. Remove the 7 bolts from the plastic cowl, and remove the plastic cowl then you have complete access to the hp filter and the VTS. ???? Literally takes less than 5 mins to remove the cowl. Lol
