Grantham bells, tenor being rung up 060424

Just a quick video of the tenor being rung up ready for a peal attempt at St Wulframs. UA-cam suggested I'd not posted for a while.
You can also see progress on the frame painting, only the first coat! The bells, or their fitments are about to undergo an overhaul; the 70+ year bearing are going to be changed and the clappers serviced and reprofiled.
For the eagle eyed vacuum enthusiasts there is a Henry lurking, and I left my drinks bottle on the frame too...

And it goes up right unlike Maidstone where they have a device to flip the clapper.
I have to love Taylor tenors.
Even my old dad who was a bell hanger for Whitechapel in the 60s had a saying.
Taylor's for Tenors and Whitechapel for trebles.
Of course the Jewel for me is Yorkminster with that classic warmth of the Taylor tenors drone.

Indeed, I wonder whether the new wooden shafted clapper will go up right at Maidstone? In my time ringing at Grantham we've had the original wrought iron clapper, the sg (spheroidal graphite iron) clapper, which were both pigs to get up right, needing 2-3 people on the rope to go up right; and at present the nylon shafted clapper, which goes up right with one person.
As I understand it the wheel size ratio relative to the bell is slightly smaller at Maidstone, thus making it much harder to get it to start striking right, when ringing the bell up.

@DavidBraunton wooden shafted clappers interest me, I don't know whether they make the bell sound different or not, unless you had a before and after recording it would be difficult to know.
I also want to know why it's normally only the tenor although St Paul's has a wooden shaft on the 11th.
I think wheel size can affect if a bell goes up right as if the wheel is bigger, it's easy to check the bell.

@@Steven_Rowe I believe the principle is that they swing slightly faster than the bell, making it easier to ring up right. The weight is more in the flight and head, than the shaft. They tend to bounce, rather than sit on the side of the bell when they hit, letting it hum more.

Yep, luckily it had mostly been primed a few years ago, so zinc phosphate and iron oxide inhibitor for parts, white spirit wash down, some sanding wire brushing, then two top coats, one done, one to go.

Looks like they have had a repaint, what colour are the headstocks going to be?

​@@DavidBraunton personally I've would of chosen a different colour like red for the headstocks. And darker blue frame.

@@RingerOliver59 well any colour could be chosen, but when lighter it'll be easier to see where you've put tools, nuts, bolts, split pins. On the down side it'll look dirty more quickly.
