"The fighting in trials feels slower than in secret" ARE YOU F*CKING KIDDING ME? Secret of mana killed my patience because the combat felt absolutely awful with how you had to wait for enemies to finish their stunlock animation every single time after every hit. It was really annoying how you had to wait for your attack bar to fill up (because otherwise you won't deal damage), hope it connects against the enemy and then wait for the enemy to finish being stunned and stand back up to be able to continue the fight. It was excruciating and no other game in the mana series is as clunky and annoying to play, and I played absolutely all of them. Its impressive how even the Gameboy adventure handles combat better and I'm confused to hell as to how can you defend it over Seiken densetsu 3's combat
This is a fantastic review, series retrospective, and remake comparison. I hope you will create more content along these lines in the future because you're really good at it.

What you kids don't understand - was this was the FIRST TIME any of us kids saw a co-op JRPG. It was SUCH an amazing game, not JUST because of the story, the wonderful music and gameplay - but the MEMORIES!! I remember playing it with my brother and beating the crap out of it. WE did it. It's a MASTERPEICE of it's time and deserves whatever recognition it gets. Play it /w a friend.
The funny thing about the comparison with the OOT remake is that, Grezzo not only is good at remaking games, but the director of the original Mana games is the CEO of the company.
You did a fantastic job!! I grew with Secret of Mana, I have a special nostalgic bond with the game. I tried to play SoM2 with English patch on emulator but it kept crashing. I'm excited to play it legally and now finally with English official translation. I don't have a switch yet, but that didn't stopped me to preorder the physical release. Hopefully I can buy a switch later this year to play these 3 fantastic games. Thanks for this video!!
Mystic Quest was one of the first games and the first RPG Ive ever played. Loved the intro. Wall of text, name your characters. Now FIGHT! Immidiate (easy) boss fight. Great review of the series as well.
Your humor is fucking perfect. "Replaced with this platypus just telling you where to go" couldnt stop laughing at that line haha. Subtle, and never feels forced. Great analysis bro. Cheers
Fantastic video! Thanks! Secret of Manas soundtrack is one of the most magical soundtracks ever made, therefore i never understood why the remake had to butcher it this way.
I rather prefer the original final fantasy adventure to secret of mana. I don't know the constant spell grinding, giant boss sprites with weird hit boxes and in general flimsy combat just killed it for me. I think the multiplayer of secret of mana is the best part about it, although the single player experience kind of took a hit because of it. The big bosses that just akwardly walk and spam unavoidable spells are a better fit for multiplayer but i prefered a more traditional boss with a pattern to learn and attacks to avoid. The original feels (for lack of a better word) more designed. Also i'm kind of pissed off that the remake sword of mana for GBA, was not in the collection, which adds more story elements and options, like being able to play as a female character. I mean they were so close to including everything, I'm increasingly frustrated with these legacy collections that randomly avoid one of their games.
Why on Earth they got the guy who did "Marisa stole the precious thing" and "Cirno's perfect math class" to arrange Secret of Mana is beyond me. It sounds like a bad joke.
This video and the sequel convinced me to pick up Trials of mana 2020 and it became on of my top 5 favorite games of all time. Thanks a lot for making these videos highlighting the Quality of the games.
Great vid! I haven't been able to play cause I am waiting for the physical ver, so this is a good way of knowing what to expect. These games are my life, I can think of few things as ubiquitous in my formative years, so paying up the admittedly steep price is no issue for me, especially since I always have experienced them on emulators. And considering this is Squeenix, it could have been waaay worse ie FF VI, Chrono trigger on PC.

ARE YOU F*CKING KIDDING ME?
Final Fantasy Adventure looks almost exactly like Link’s Awakening
This is a fantastic review, series retrospective, and remake comparison. I hope you will create more content along these lines in the future because you're really good at it.
Nerrel I love your content. Keep up the amazing work.
Alright, but how does Sword of Mana, the GBA remake of Mana 1, hold up compared to the Mobile and GB versions?
It is really great. A shame they did not include it in the collection :(
they are very different, Sword of mana is a proper remake.. the mobile remake is just a graphical upgrade nothing more, just like the secret of mana remake..
You should really do more reviews and stuff. Always A+.
It's like a game in it's self to try and open the menu and cast the next spell on a boss at the exact frame the option becomes available.
Gawd Damn!. He went in on the review! Good shit
Seriously, amazing review. Longtime fan of the Mana series since Gameboy and the release of SoM on SNES.
You are the best content creator IMO Nerrel!
Keep up the good work!
22:48 This image was in one of my Nintendo magazines way back in the day. I"ve never been able to play Trials of Mana before, but now, I'm going to look for the ROM.
Play it /w a friend.
im only watching this because its YOUR channel.
Another great video. Thanks Nerrel!
11:57 that delay is just the funniest thing
Yes Secret of Mana content. Thx.
I love your game design sensibilities and humor. Keep it up!
The funny thing about the comparison with the OOT remake is that, Grezzo not only is good at remaking games, but the director of the original Mana games is the CEO of the company.
Dude, your voice is so smooth and relaxing I almost slept while watching, regardless, great job man your reviews are awesome.
Nerrel: "I'd give it 9 Tingles."
Me: :)
Nerrel: "But they're sad."
Me: :(
"A detailed look at the details they didn't put in."
I can't wait for the 3D All stars collection review.
Dude, I can’t even explain how much i love your content. Keep it up.
This video's great!
Looking forward to picking up the physical of the collection tomorrow.
Cheers
They might've had a low budget, but that really does not justify them bringing "Joe from accounting" to do the voices for the npcs.
Seeing you upload fills me with joy. :)
Fantastic video! Thanks!
Secret of Manas soundtrack is one of the most magical soundtracks ever made, therefore i never understood why the remake had to butcher it this way.
Wow! Now this is a quality review. Perfectly articulated! I wish the developers could see this.
Die hard fan of Secret of Mana since childhood here, and I must say the info in this video is ON POINT. Great job, sir.
that framed "anime art" on a wall you commented on is the hero of Legend of Mana's official artwork. Looked like a neat easter egg if anything
Back to this after playing the excellent Visions. Expecting a Nerrel video on it because now you’re the Mana guy.
I would love a video on wind waker and wind waker hd keep up the great work
OG Wind Waker has a better style in its art design while Wind Waker HD is just objectivity better to play. It really doesn't need a full video.
@@antimatter3084 I agree but he seem to have his own opinions about wind waker that I would like to see him dive in to
@@AthanMcNeal try king k's retrospectives
Bro secret of mana 2 in english alone is what i would have paid 40 for :3 finally i can play it and actually read it
Final Fantasy Adventure, I remember the running around the palm trees in a figure 8 puzzle had me stumped for ages.
Why on Earth they got the guy who did "Marisa stole the precious thing" and "Cirno's perfect math class" to arrange Secret of Mana is beyond me. It sounds like a bad joke.
They got a lot of very popular composers and arrangers to do music for the game in general.
Every Nerrel video is like a Nick Robinson video. You didn't know anything about it, but by the end you really do care wholeheartedly!
getting high and watching a new Nerrel video>>>
you're the GOAT!
feels like a long time since your last video, we missed you
