- You think the U.S.A and Australia only have version of the show in their country. WRONG!!!
Here are clips from
USA
Australia
Hong Kong
New Zealand
UK
Germany
Greece
Paraguay
and a French pilot shot in Australia - Розваги
The music is called "Image" and was sold to dozens of news stations across the U.S.
On the German version of $OTC, Hopp Oder Topp, there was a blooper where the host made a mistake and got angry about it, but in English. That is featured in Game Show Moments Gone Bananas.
Yeah, I saw that! He cursed in English saying: “No, I’m wrong! I’m f****ing wrong! F***! S***!”
The host of the French pilot, Alexandre Debanne, also hosted their 2nd version of Hollywood Squares, Le Kadox (the ones prior and since both being titled L'acadamie des Neuf), as well as the 1st revamp of Roue de la Fortune in 1994. That was the only year in La Roue's original run that they used the cash format.
@Brucetiki The German version used the "Diamond" set because it started much later than the US and HK versions when the Aussie version used the diamond shaped set.
For anyone asking, most of the international clips came from a TV special, "Sale of the Century: 15 Years", which aired in Australia in 1995
Future Hollywood Walk of Famer and long-time TV personality Jim Perry will turn 75 years old on November 11th.
It isn't Pete Smith. The very early episodes of SOTC in 1980 had another voice over announcer. Smith didn't take over the role until some weeks into the show if i recall correctly.
I was informed about that years ago. It was Ron Neate before Peter Smith replaced him.
He later became grand champion and his grand total become almost $250,000.
That Australian one must have been off a really early episode because Pete Smith (the announcer) sounds very young compared to all the other Aussie episodes I've seen with his voice.
On the Greek version of SOTC, when the host does his magic trick at the start of the show, they cut to the champion who looks bored.
As I recall that was a gimmick of the show there. The title translates as "the boss has gone crazy" and the host acts a little "out there" or I may be confusing it with a different country.
@ 2beeoarknot2bee Yes I've been well aware of that for quite some time now.
The French one was actaully a pilot episode done in Australia
Those are the video clips for Sale of the Century: Sale around the world (including the very first episodes from both the United States version in January 1983 and Australian version in Mid-July 1980). Wasn't those exciting or what?
They both sounded more English than they did Australian so it's no surprise I thought the voices were from the same person.
@MeFrom07 actually, ron neate was the announcer for the first two weeks
Checkout the host from the German version......with the Members Only Jacket.
Pete became announcer from episode 11 onward, from what I read. Much better than Ron was. :-)
@PhilosophyDragon81 Ron Neate was his name. I was informed about that over 2 years ago.
I feel ya. I need to pay my bills too.
How many people won the lot on Sale PRIOR to the addition of the cash jackpot, only Mort?
I can think of two cathy powers and Michael tadaro I hope I spelled his last name right
@mrmatchgame Add to that he only did announcing for the show's first ten episodes or so
Yes; some of them did
Haha the American version has the contestants on the opposite side to the NZ and Australian version just like they drive on the wrong side of the road.
I'd read that he snapped his Achilles tendon before the recording.
They talked about this on a 15th anniversary special in Aussie, it was a skiing accident, but he insisted the show must go on.
I noticed that the versions from New Zealand and Paraguay had the sets reversed. Why is it like that?
@RGSJenkins Whereas Hong Kong's title translates to "generous"!
So early it was the very first episode.
I wonder why the 1983 eps of Sale (US) haven't been reran, are the tapes bad?
A different song than the one for most lot wins plays with Mort's win...
Government Bailout my friend, when are they going to bail me out; I wonder.
I hope someone has a full ep of Mort's lot win.
ua-cam.com/video/su_WCR5lYcs/v-deo.html posted by none other than Mort Kamins himself.
I know, I live within the viewing area
The German host looks like Mark Hamill
4:06 What the f**k? The jokes for whatever the hell is going on there write themselves!
These Things Just happen
$48 for a jackpot of $77,000? Is that show still on?
Not with those prices, LOL
Edited, $48 was actually for a $1,800 men's watch.
What happened to the French Sale host? Did he break his leg?
Tore his Achilles tendon in a skiing accident.
Is it me or does the host of the Greek version look like Jimmy Kimmel!
Nope
