@@andrewrobinson7797 I saw the conduct, just wondering how he got it up to the lamp. The post is not hollow as far as I can see. Did he just staple it on the side?
You said the cap was white oak but you didn't say what the rest of the face frame was. It looked a bit like oak in some of the shots. I was wondering how you ran wires to the top of the post for the light. From the shot where you are sliding the cover onto the post it appears that you have conduit running up the inner post in a dado.
A combination of red Grandis and Sapele… just using woods that I had in the shop that can be used outside. Since I’m not an electrician I don’t show any electrical work on my channel
@@JonPetersArtHome What is the big deal? Why are people so scared of electrical work, or showing it? If some yahoo kills himself by watching a You tube video, no one is going to jail.
Hi Jon, as someone who works a lot with Azek/ pvc, I see several potential problems. When using pvc, pvc glue should always be used. It is stronger than screws or nails, since the glue welds the pieces together. My other concern is that you e mixed dis-similar materials, pvc and wood. Pvc expands drastically with temperature changes, as it expands it will blow apart your wood joints. Since you’ve introduced pvc into the project, why wouldn’t you do it all in pvc? The pvc holds paint really well, doesn’t rot, and is impervious to insects. Pvc is a great product when used correctly. It’s unfortunate that there is very little training for the material. Dark colors are also a big problem for pvc, it with cause the pvc to expand more drastically than normal. Nice lamp post!
Hi Jeff, thanks… yes I understand all your concerns with mixing the materials… I think because the Azek part of the lamp post is only 5 1/2 inches wide it should be okay… but I will post an update if not. I have used Azek glue on other projects and yes it works great but it’s also very expensive and I didn’t want to buy it and didn’t really think it necessary for such a small project. Painting it black is not going to help with the expansion and contraction but one thing the lamp post has going for it is that it is in the shade almost all the time. I’ll revisit the project this time next year and let everyone know how it’s doing. Thanks again, Jon
@@JonPetersArtHome Having used PVC glue, I will agree with Jeff--it makes a very strong joint. But I also like Jon's approach. He just used up a lot of leftover wood & PVC scraps, and he was willing to roll the dice and see how this lamp post held up (or doesn't) over time. We all do that sometimes!
I sure was excited to see you working with the PVC so I could see what you used as a screw hole filler....but then you covered with the wood face plates......UUGHH gut punch
Thanks Brother, I actually watched another one of your vids & saw in the background a can of MH Ready Patch. I have never heard of it but I am curious, does it hold up well to the hot sun, humidity & moisture. I like working with PVC but really I just want to find a product that is a good all purpose hole filler for various types of siding, wood, & PVC etc. @@JonPetersArtHome
1:41 How well does Azec accept pocket screws? Idea for joke: You keep feeding the 4x4 into the box and it never emerges out the other side. Schrödinger’s Lampost?
Jon you didn’t address the lamp install. I was kind of hoping this was a solar lamp install since my property is just to big to run wires. Most of my exterior lighting is some kind of solar because most of my yard has no wiring or old wiring. So I’m highly motivated to go solar.

Be Good! Jon
I love Azek. Great product.
fantastic!
Jon, what an impressive result you have achieved on your home's grounds. It's worth remembering how it looked just a couple of years ago. Nicely done.
Love how that turned out.....looks great!
Always quality work...
Looks great it turned out beautiful
Looks fantastic Jon

Nice work on the lamp post Jon! Thanks for sharing the video with us!😎👍💖JP
Thanks JP
@@JonPetersArtHome Your very welcome Jon! Have a great week!😎
Very very cool Jon. I loke the balck. It shows all the details & blends into landscaping. Hoping all is well Bud, Dirty Jersey out!!
Thanks Mike, now it needs a little mulch work and this part of the yard is ✅
Beautiful work, Jon! Really well done! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
That looks great, Jon. Of course your wife was right. Isn't that the way of the world?
Bill
That’s for sure! Thanks!
Looks real nice. What kind of wood did you use for the face frame?
Thanks Red Grandis
Beautifully done. How did you install the electric wire in the post? Did you drill or create a dato in one side?
Look's great Jon, but you must remember the wife is alway's right LOL !!!.😀😀👍👍.
so did you put a dado in the 4x4 to accomdate the wire?
Great video Jon!! Can you address how you attached the light to the top? Did you seal it somehow with caulk or just screw it in?
Thanks, I screwed the top to the base and added a little caulk around the fixture
Nice job, Jon. What is the reason you went with wood for the face frames vs. the PVC you used elsewhere? Thanks. Looks great as always.
Thanks, I had the pvc from another project and I wanted to use it and the wood aloud me to get a good glue joint
Where did you run the electrical for the light?
Great looking patio project, Jon~! A pair of those would do wonders for our back yard space~!
looks great!~!
website is down btw 😓
I know 🤦♂️ hopefully fixed today
Nice!
Not related but are there plans available for your miter saw station? Thank you.
Thanks, no, I never made plans for it because it’s pretty custom fit to the shop
@@JonPetersArtHome
Wow! Fast reply.
Understand about the station. Thank you.
Great result John. I'm guessing you used Red Grandis for the wood trim? A good outdoor wood of course.
Thanks! Yes red Grandis and a little Sapele in one of the flat panels.
Great work Jon. Did you use Titebond to glue the Azek together? Thumbs up. Best to Laurel & Olivia.
Thanks Chuck!
how did you do the wiring for the lamp? Is it battery powered?
It's hard wired. You can see the trench and conduit towards the end of the video.

@@mlk4343 I took another look. I reckon he routed a channel on the post and ran the cable up that. I'm guessing, but that's what I would do 😀
Yes that’s what I did routed a channel up the post…. I tend to never show electrical work on my channel since I’m not an electrician.

How is the tall light post doing that was made a few years ago? I remember that you concerned about it's durability.
Still looks great, planing to add another coat of paint this fall 👍
Can you give me the link to the last router but you used.

They do make plugs for pvc but I mostly use oil based exterior ready patch

What kind of glue will stick to pvc?
Thats very classy.
Stained wood and painted plastic would be more my taste.
Здравствуйте! Доски белого цвета из какого материала? Не могу понять, похож на пластик, или это дерево чем то обработано?
very nice high quality fine wood working. yet, to paint in black I think 2x lumber is enough for this project.

Why use oak if you're going to paint it? Wouldn't pine work just as well for less?
Oh and it gave me a great idea for a fancy mailbox post!
Thanks! I used white oak because I had a piece in the shop and white oak is good for outdoor projects.

Get a minimum of 10 lumens for a lamp
Jon, very nice project! I was hoping you were going to credit your wife with the suggestion, at least I would.
Where’s the sawstop?
It's in the video
Man, that thing is sweet but it looked a lot better unpainted.
nothing like $20K worth of equiptment to make things easy.
Took thirty years years to collect the tools
Wood glue on pvc?
Very nice.
