What a fabulous kit/book combo, together very reasonably priced as they are the equivalent of a super WNW kit in 1/24 😊

Years ago Roden did their initial 1/48 Sopwith Strutter kits with clear cast wings (happily have to specify 1/48 scale since their recent enlargement to 1/32 scale!) which many complained about them being heavy, brittle, and any warp as rather permanent. Luckily mine appear fine and hope to get the look done right.
Speaking of scale change, sure wish a few other WNW kits were tooled into 1/24 as well!
I have the Love kit SE-5a to go with this kit, certainly no comparison with detail but glad I hadn't bought their Triplane instead!

You're a bad man, Nigel! I've ordered the special edition one from Hannants, and if you select to collect from Telford, you get an extra 10% off. 👍

Great review! I think the Fokker Dr 1 is a cool plane. Looks like a great kit to build. Thanks for the review Nigel.

Thanks' for this one, looks great. While WW1 planes were small, imagine what the wingspan would be if you took the Dr1's wings and put them end on end, and it has the axle wing.

What a lovely little kit, beginning to come round to Great War subjects, did some of the old Airfix kits back in the day but nothing recent. may just give some of the modern kits a go.

“Why not transparent or translucent plastic for WWI wings and tailplanes,” now that’s a very good question Nige. Can Meng or some other kit maker give the answer please? 🤔 I see they have beefed up the wings with internal bracing to prevent the warping that some of their 1/32 kits suffered. 👍🏻

French model company Brifaut (1964) and Renwal in the US (1966) produced plastic WW1 model kits that had internal ribs that needed to be covered in paper that had to be doped tight. A fellow member of a vintage group build built two of Renwal’s kits recently and the result was awesome!

My only concern with clear wings is that (hopefully) you would have beautiful renderings of wing rib tops and bottoms but invisible ribs in between. Just a thought.

Good point! Mmmmm there must be a way?? I know.. a plastic frame structure with a clear skin top and bottom, paint it linen colour and hey presto...

Good question.. WNW always recommend .15mm for 1/32 so I guess, .2mm for this?
