Indonesians pronounce the letter C like in CHeese, CHicken, CHocolate, with a ch sound. We don’t pronounce it with a k sound. While the spelling is coklat, but it’s pronounced chok-lat.
Ketupat is basically just pressed rice. You have to eat ketupat with coto/soto. In west sumatera you eat ketupat with rendang or curry. In west java (cirebon) a special dish called ketoprak/salad with peanut sauce, also have ketupat in it. And... we also pronounce coklat as how you say it in english.
I find it interesting when I hear you say Konro, in fact Kon is the Taiwanese word for stew, and ro is the meat of Taiwan Mandarin! I didn’t expect that the similar food of different countries gets similar pronunciation. It’s so interesting! In fact, according to research, bacteria can easily grow inside helmets, especially in countries as hot as Southeast Asia! I admire the local people's willingness to wear strangers' helmets! The reaction of those two local girls when they found out you were famous is so cute! That kind of baking pan should be greased before use. I guess the waiter there forgot to give butter to you! Thanks a lot for sharing, great job! 👍😄👏
It's amazing how food cultures can intersect like that. I didn't know about the bacteria growth in helmets-definitely something to be mindful of in hot climates like Southeast Asia. Thanks for sharing these insights!

I thought you were old & I was surprised to watch you without any beard on your face. You look much super younger. After I scrolled your videos, I realized I had watched your collab videos with Dale. Really, a man will look different with & without beard, long & short hair. I didn't think you look much better, fresher & younger without beard, Luke...
Typical Indonesian food is very suitable to be eaten with rice, if you feel it tastes too salty/sweet, it is best to eat it with rice so that it feels balanced.
Ramps for wheelchairs have to be below a certain angle, so thats why there wasnt a ramp where the weird stairs were. If the ramp is too steep its difficult for those with still functioning but weaker arms/upper bodies, unless there is a flat ground to take a breather inbetween.
Exactly, you have to use spoon and fork to eat the konro, take one scoop of the broth to wet the rice and take one piece of meat with the peanut sauce mix with rice. If you want to make it spicy you can add a little bit of the sambal (the condiment in the middle of the table) and add a zest of lime
That weird rice cake is called Ketupat or called Buras in Makassar. It basically rice wrapped in palm/coconut leaves. we eat it like we do rice. Another rice cake is Lontong (cylinder looking, using banana leaves as wrapper) which can be kosong (just rice) or with fillings (carrots, potato, chicken, etc).
Hello Luke! 👋 The video is great as always! 💯🫶 Thank you for taking us on your journey through beautiful Malaysia! 🤗 The two young women were very happy to have met you. When they saw how famous you are, their smile was priceless. ❤️ You made their day. Have fun and please stay healthy and as natural as you are. Kind regards Andrea from Germany 👋 😃
May I give you advice, in Makassar if you want to travel you do it in the night (like from when the sunset until 22.00 pm), because if you travel in the day its so hot and not many people, but in the evening until night, there is a lot of people from young kids to old kakek mister. And so many street food stalls that only open in the night.
Ketupat is kind of side dish, it's kind of rice cake, it just like rice, it should go with curry or something else , we never just eat it without curry or in makassar it should go with konro.
hahaha you're so funny Luke, KETUPAT is made from rice. what is called ketupat is the leaf wrapper called ketupat, the basic ingredient is rice, no other mixtures You can eat it with Makassar coto or other side dishes
Luke love your videos! Any plans on going back to the Philippines someday? I'm Filipino specifically from iloilo. And seeing your Philippines vlog made me miss it a lot. Anyway, always looking forward to you uploads! Take care.
Was eating chicken satay (w/ peanut sauce) right as you mentioned it. Had some thai food and the guy was supposed to give me green curry but got a chicken & noodle stir fry with oyster sauce (🤢) instead. OH WELL. Banger vlog yet again!
Next time you go to Makassar and want to eat steak, come to Indoguna in Pengayoman street, it's cheaper for a high quality wagyu beef and the chef will cook it for you. Btw, thank you so much for coming to my hometown, hope you enjoy it, subscribed! 😃
Luke...when u eat ketupat must be with main dish example with coto makassar, when u in makassar Just suggest 4 u..when u difficult with language in indonesia, more use google translate plzz
Hey Luke, heading to Lahore and Islamabad in September 🇮🇪, any must see places, I am going to the border ceremony. P S. I joined your skool❤ travel creators, enjoying it so far
You must to try "Pallubasa" This is Makassar traditional food on Serigala street, this food is very tasteful. Philip dale has never tried it, so you can be the first 😂
@lukedamant if you want to try something different start off at either Rhodes or Cyprus then work your way west to the underbelly of Greece 🇬🇷 and tour the Greek peninsula
You will find it difficult to find good quality meat in Indonesia because it is expensive, we even import it from Australia. all stalls will give small portions with lots of broth
I've never eaten Karebosi directly in Makassar, just the branch in Jakarta (kelapa gading). It's interesting how in the original it's cheaper but smaller in portion, compared to the one in Jakarta Was a bit surprised at 11:07 when the ribs are shown lol
love these chill vlogs

Crazy they had American music playing there to me.
Good taste
I was blown away they were playing Saosin, MCR, and Red Jumpsuit Apparatus haha
My elder millennial heart was loving the music at the bbq place.
Cause Gyu-Kaku is a chain restaurant. There's like 50 of them in the US
Enjoy in Indonesia🇮🇩
