    I know this is a year old video, but I appreciate it. I was considering the 24 and didn't even realize it didn't have a drain plug. Thats the deal breaker for me . . . I use the drain to empty water out when i add more ice so my food doesn't get soggy. I also appreciate having the drain when I'm cleaning the inside when I use it for fish or other things that get it dirty on the inside. I just use a scrubbie with soap and water with a hose and makes for very easy clean up and drying. Looks like the handle and latches are a nice upgrade on the 24 over the 20 . . . and a little extra capacity, being lighter and taller are all great.
    But for my needs, I've gotta have that drain, so I'm sticking with the 20 that I already have.
    Thanks again for the review.

    I purchased the yeti 24, I didn’t think I would miss the drain plug, but I did, yeti almost had it, but leaving the drain plug out was a big mistake, I know you can tip it with the new Handel underneath, but if you are still loaded up and just want to drain some water out, the 24 is inconvenient, but I do like the strap handle over the aluminum Handel definitely an improvement there, but I find that I use the 20 over the 24 more often.

      I think that's the biggest complaint of the 24 is the lack of a drain plug. It works for me but not for everyone so I understand. Thanks for checking out the video and the comment. JD

      I wonder if that's where yeti squeezed out some extra insulation efficiency. Doesn't seem like a drain plug would be significant hear transfer but someone mentioned that it is.

    Deciding between the Dometic Patrol 20 and the Yeti Roadie 24... So similar yet so different at the same time. Drain plug is a big plus and minus.. but Yeti height is also a great way to stack and seat height is a bonus.

    Finally broke down and bought a Roadie 24. What sold me was the ease of the latches to open and close. Much more friends and family friendly. You can actually do it one handed plus the height. You can put a standing liquor bottle (forget wine) in it as well. Drain plug is not an issue for me since I don't need but a day or two max of ice retention.

      Hey Paul thank you for that feedback. Absolutely there's a weight difference but I didn't focus on that in the review because the 24 holds more than the 20. JD I’ve been watching this cooler, actually thought I might get it for Christmas but didn’t which is fine lol gives me time to do more research. My wife and I have no kids, it’s just us two and we love our cheap little cooler and bag cooler we have (both of them Walmart specials) for lake days and the beach of course. But we are looking at starting to camp more and upgrading quality with a yeti. Would you recommend the 24 over a yeti bag cooler?

    • @JDOffline
      @JDOffline  3 роки тому +2

      Hey Wolfman, personally, I'm not a fan of the cooler bags other than the flip series (love the flip 18). I think the openings on the bags are too narrow but the flip series all have square (ish) openings and gives you easy access. The hard coolers are great but weight quickly becomes an issue so it really depends on the type of camping you are doing. If you're driving up to your campsite then I think the 24 hard cooler would be awesome. If you're doing any type of hiking to your campsite I would look at some lighter options for sure. You can't really go wrong with any of their coolers, you just have to get the one that fits your application. I used cheap coolers most of my life and love my Yeti. Opinions vary on this of course so just my opinion. Thanks for the question and hoped this helped. JD

    Bought the 24 in sagebrush. Love it. The tall size and handle are big improvements. Had the Rtic 20 and it was too big and heavy for the little it held. I do like the latches but still never understood why so many complain about the T rex ones

    I find confusing that Yeti states on the webpage that the roadie 24 can hold only 18 cans and the hooper flip 18 can hold 20 cans with a 2:1 ice ratio (both are supposed to hold 24lb of ice alone). I know it isn't a fair comparison, but what're your thoughts on the 24 versus the bigger 35 or 45? I'm looking to purchase my first Yeti cooler, and I can't decide which one I should be looking at. Thanks for your input!

    • @JDOffline
      @JDOffline  3 роки тому +6

      Hey Nick, thanks for the question. My honest opinion is the 24 is a "portable" cooler and the entry level hard cooler from Yeti. If you are considering a larger cooler, I would 100% look at the Tundra Haul. Yes, it's a bit more expensive but the wheels make it so worth it. A Yeti 35 or 45 is going to be a heavy cooler when full and you would utilize the tundra haul more often because it is easier to transport. So if you are looking for a smaller cooler, the 24 is great or even the flip 18. If you think you need a larger cooler (and the extra space is always nice to have), I would seriously consider the tundra haul. Best cooler yeti has made in my opinion if you are going rotomolded and not soft sided. Hope this helps Nick and thank you for the question/comment.

    The roadie 20 loses tons of insulation through the metal handle. This isn’t as noticeable when the contents are ice but if you stick something cooler like Arctic Ice 5 degree F Packs in the handle is very cold. The roadie 24 avoids insulative loss at the handle and this is why it is superior in ice retention.

    I currently have the 20 and was looking to upgrade to the 24. My main haul is the 16oz pounders for craft beer. The 20 will hold 16 without compromising ice. I’m guessing the 24 would hold 20? Also, is the 24 less insulated and that’s why it weighs less?

      Hey Daniel, not sure of the capacity of the larger one pounders, I tested using 12 oz cans. Ice retention is fantastic, no noticeable issue. JD

      Yeah some people don’t like it. I have really enjoyed it and use it pretty regularly. Maybe take a look at one in a store so you can see it? The roadie 20 is a great cooler and the original so I get it. If you’re after one look on eBay. JD

    Thank you! Had to go through several videos just to find out if the Roadie 24 actually holds 24 cans of beer! Other people reviewing how fucking wine bottles and hot dogs fit in the fucking cooler. No body wanna see that shit! Show us the beer! Thank you sir!

      Great question!! I never tested the ice retention of the two coolers. Based on previous tests I've done (yeti vs yeti) they always seem to last about the same amount of time as long as your comparing the rotomolded coolers, ice is equal, conditions equal, etc. JD
