  • Between the minimal law enforcement and the wildly creative car culture, Bangkok, Thailand, may be the "Wild West" for car enthusiasts. Larry Chen immerses himself in several car clubs within the local groups and with a few personal friends to share just how vibrant and passionate the car culture is and what it takes to be a car enthusiast in a place like Bangkok.

I do appreciate Larry’s visit to Thailand. He was so true on many points. Cost of entry to this is so expensive compared to the other parts of the world. Next time you should spend some time with the people in the real motorsport world here.
While these Hondas are cool as the footage, you should be aware that we as Thai locals do not appreciate their reckless behaviors on our streets of Thailand. Such actions have brought losses and disturbances to our communities. As you know our land is highly corrupted. Police couldn’t do much.
As a car enthusiast myself, I would highly appreciate if you might shed some light on our real racing community. You know people here. Chad can point you to the right connections. We do amazing things here on the tracks too !

While some of the cars in this video are not my preferred "style" - it is awesome they are doing what they are doing and enjoying their builds. I've always been into jdm as a kid but never had a chance of owning a true jdm car till right before street take over in the US were becoming more of a threat to the real cars and coffee enthusiasts in the US. I've always had the dream of making videos of me working on my car and showing out but with covid around the corner around those times I kept the build a secret from the world. As mutch as I'd love to share with everyone what I have and my build I didn't want to get into a part of the culture I didn't want to be part of. Your videos show that it still exists. Even in crazy strick countries what everyone goes threw just to have the meet is amazing as the US takes it for granted.. one day ill follow in your footsteps and capture my view point of this amazing car enthusiasts world. BTW the build is on a 91 & 93 celica. And yea I have 2 of them now. Keep the videos coming. You don't know how much joy it brings to see enthusiasts culture in others perspectives

For a reason why E30 and W123 are very cheap here, back on its time it has local assembly plant, and has a price around Japanese mid-size sedan (E30 is compact, W123 is bigger but it's very outdated due the long market lifespan in Thailand), so it's sold like a hot cake

I watched a doco somewhere about Thailand's Ambulances. They are private contractors that actually take you to hospital. So naturally because it's their own vehicle they can dress them up with their own personality. Reason is because of how dense BK is, its hard for the normal ambulance to attend to call outs quickly. So like a Taxi system, they assign the jobs to these contractors.

Yes a lot of Thai people may be earning $300-$400 a month but these people can't go anywhere near cars. All the people you see in the video with their cars are all upperclass, some may even be millionaires (in US Dollars too). Cars are expensive in Thailand, only second to Singapore. Anything with more than 200 hp from the factory is likely imported, and thus was subject to over 200% import tax when it was new.
So while it is good that there is no enforcement, the downside of the high import tax is that the car scene is very boring for middle class people. It's either Civics or motorcycles. Pickup trucks are also popular as they're cheaper than cars, and really the only way for the middle class to access a RWD + manual platform. Only the truly wealthy can enjoy anything interesting.

16:39 I just got the best timed ad ever. It synced up with the music perfectly. I thought it was a sponsor or something at first because of how well it linked up.

Wait until you see overloaded trucks transporting goods to places rocking their TE37s. Thailand has wide variety of vehicle modification, from small bikes, cars, trucks, vans, boats and even farm equipments. It's just so crazy how people are addicted into modifying anything with motor in them. What a wonderful country to experience!
