As soon as I got my email yesterday I thought "OMG I wish I could call my sewing BFF (in my head) Whitney! Of course I will make it in at least 2 versions.
So much great info in todays video! First I have to say your LN Olympia is just beautiful! It might be one of my favorite makes of yours. Second, the LN Boyfriend Cardigan is a go to pattern for me, I love the back center seam that provides so much shaping and it’s such an easy sew. I received an email from Cashmerette yesterday, the Stanton hoodie is free with a full membership this month. (Sept 2022) And even that is discounted! I didn’t think I’d like the add on dress but yours is so darn cute! You’ll get so much wear from your new Stantons 😊 I purchased Jenny’s book a few months ago so I’m excited to see what hacks you do😀
Great episode today! And, Whitney…you look FABULOUS in your LN Tidal / Sew Batik knit Tidal dress!!! I’ve got to tell you that I love, Love, LOVE, your version of the new Stanton dress! Seriously…this expansion pack alone should cause a bombardment of new subscribers to the Cashmerette Pattern Club! What a winner! I can’t wait to make one….or two…or…..!!! Looking forward to this coming week’s episodes!
I have started to become more restrained in what patterns I buy and the fabric I purchase...for economical and environmental reasons. I am looking forward to hearing your tips this September. I have recently begun my first subscription with In The Folds. It is excellent. The focus is on 'slow sewing' and developing skills as a sewer rather than rushing through to meet a schedule each month. They have some lovely patterns and there are opportunities to learn how to pattern hack and get ideas from others in the community. Well worth it.
Just a note for Seamwork Club, if you listen to their podcasts they tell you how to get an annual membership for half price. I signed up a few months ago and you have access to over 200 patterns plus discounts at many fabric sites.
I’m going to have to check into that. I hear Seamwork come up often, but the monthly price stopped me. I have to become a little more frugal, since I’ve been spending a small fortune on patterns and fabric just in the last 3 years. But I’m addicted for sure.
This was great Whitney! I'm an all access member of Cashmerette and have loved watching all of Jenny's workshops. I think the value is excellent and a wonderful, supportive community including Jenny who answered one of my questions. Can't wait to see what you sew up with their patterns. Loving your channel as always. xx
At the end of August, I decided to upgrade from Plus to All-Access at Cashmerette since the price was basically the same. So glad to hear you've been given All-Access in exchange for your Stanton pattern work. I've got to go through my stash and find some knits for color blocking a Stanton for myself. I've just got so many other projects I need to do first.
Great video! I was a little disappointed about the Stanton Hoodie expansion pack this month because I never wear dresses. So I thought, I’ll never make that dress. . .until I saw yours today. It’s so cute! And it would be great over leggings (I don’t own any🤪). Now I am all excited!! Thanks for the inspiration. I am sure you’ve already seen this but there is a note in Ahead of the Curve that gives a website link so you can download the patterns separately and I’m pretty sure they’re layered. Can’t wait for your upcoming tutorials.
I’ve made the boyfriend cardigan a few times. My favorite is one I made to take to the beach during the early summer when the temperature gets just cool enough at night. I wear it out and as a cover for my pajamas on vacation. It’s such a great pattern! In other news, I’m loving the quarter zipper for the Stanton! So cute!
Hi Whitney, my name is Debby from Wisconsin. I LOVE you channel, and because we are warm color ladies (autumn redhead) a lot that looks nice on you will look nice on me too. I love the flower fabric and after the video I went to Style Makers Fabrics and found the fabric on summer clearance. They also had it in 100% Rayon! I bought it ALL out. 😅💓🌷 Honestly, you inspire me so much. I'm praying 🙏 for your mom. I'm asking the Lord for help, peace, and healing in tines of trials.
I am so excited to learn that you'll be doing hacks from Ahead of the Curve. I just ordered that book and read it cover to cover as soon as I had the chance. I am so impressed and inspired and I want to make everything in the book as I endeavor to make my first ever, me-made, capsule wardrobe. Thanks for so much great information and inspiration, every week!
I’m a member of Gertie’s Patreon and love it! Then again I’ve an elongated hour glass shape (plus sized) and my style is vintage so that’s a perfect fit for me… I’ve made 3 of the patterns so far (2 of them multiple times) but I’ve got loads of them on my Autumn/Winter sewing plans and I’m now spending more time sewing and am getting more experienced, so 🙏 I’ll get more of them made this season! 😛
Yay! Lovely! I wish I could just clear my schedule and sew sew sew!!! Do you find those fabrics need careful washing/drying care? Curious as to wether your daughter (or son) has gotten the sewing bug as of yet? You mentioned Seamwork. I’ve had their subscription for years and have so many credits. I don’t know why I haven’t sewn more of their patterns. The two things I’ve made I have really liked. I also feel like they have upped their game the last year or so. One more thing, I’m about to sew the StyleArc Bob Pants. What have you found with that company’s block?
I wish the same thing! To answer your questions, no, I wash and dry both of these pieces like I would a cotton t-shirt. Neither of my kids have shown an interest in sewing, but I'm not losing hope. I'm hoping one of them will have some interest maybe later in life 😂. As far as style arc, I find that their pants fit me really well with minimal alterations. I've not made the Bob Pants, but a couple of people did mention that they extended the pockets into the waistband and that they preferred that.
I was so excited to see that the Stanton Hoodie was included in the club this month! I've been drooling over it, and hoping for a sale, and there it was included! Also, it also comes with a 15% discount at Blackbird Fabrics this month. No affiliation, yadda yadda, but I'm hooked!!!
Just joined the club!!! So looking forward to making the Stanton. Love your batik dress! Thank you for all you do. Love love your channel. Praying for your family.
Seamwork for me too! I got in at its inception. I really like it. Oh, and on the Stanton dress….use the 1/4 zip and standup collar and dress it up with a scarf around your neck either hanging long or loosely tied. I had two of these many years ago and they were soooo comfortable and looked lovely with tights and flats on cold days. Or cinch the waist. You would need to make it without the pockets though for that.
I made LN Boyfriend cardigans en masse for my daughters and daughters by love. It is such a great pattern and will be making more. I agree about find a pattern company that works for you, same block so sizing is consistent. Looking forward to I2S Brampton shorts, even though the temps are cooling. I think I’m going to do the Cashmerette club, noticed the top tier is on special, so woohoo! Your newest Stanton’s are terrific! Thanks for all you do! Congrats on the kids passing driver’s Ed. Although it is such a scary thing for mamas, it is part of getting the little birdies ready to fly!
As soon as I saw the expansion, I thought of you. Your makes are so cute! Love the color on that 1/4 zip. Jenny's master classes are awesome and so are her lives that she does too. I don't usually catch them live but the replay is fantastic. I am so glad you are working with them a little bit. Its about time! You are a super fan! 😂
I was not impressed when I saw the dress on the form, but girl it looks awesome on you! Ty for doing this channel. I sure wish this series would have been around when I was younger and our finances were so tight! I'm excited about learning more. Kudos!
I was sitting here thinking, did you make that for Ava? Because I knew it looked closer to our colors. :) And speaking or books, have you seen the pants fitting article going around now on the Top-down, center-out method by Ruth Collins? I’m so going to be giving that a try on my daughter. It should be easier than trying the paper fitting method, since you’re working with cloth.
@@TomKatStitchery the article is in the Summer 2022 Threads magazine. I signed up so I could get the article because it kept popping up on my feed because of who I watch. J Stern and a couple of others have tried it out and are excited about it. I can’t wait to give it a go myself.
Your Tidal dress is so lovely on you! I haven't purchased the Stanton pattern. I have a sweatshirt/fleece pattern that fits well, though I still am thinking about the Bainbridge. I just this year joined Seamwork, and am happy with the patterns and additional benefits. I joined when membership was half-price, and happily it will remain half-price!! I'm looking forward to the pattern hacking series beginning on Sunday :) Thanks for being with us today, sending hugs...
I tried Seamwork for a year and the community is wonderful, but the patterns took so much work to fit me, I didn’t renew. If they fit you well it’s a fabulous deal. Love Notions feels like a pattern club with their $5 Friday! The weekly deals from them, Winter Wear and Ellie and Mac have filled my pattern inventory over the last year (maybe overfilled it!) at such a great savings.
This is a great point! It's also a great point that not every pattern company is going to fit everyone well. Finding a few companies that fit you well right off the bat is important!
I have been sitting on the idea of subscribing to the Cashmerette Club. I have a few issues with Cashmerette in that I still have to alter them much of the time (and I can't get past why she used darts in her cardigan pattern). I consider myself experienced in sewing and can draft my own pattern that do fit well. However, I have the Upton dress pattern and have loved wearing it in the past. When you mentioned the Gilmore skirt could be used with the Upton, I decided to spend the $213 Australian dollars to get the all access and in turn all the patterns. Of course we're coming into Spring in the Southern Hemisphere so I'm after the patterns for warmer weather. Having said that, I'm swing for the upcoming Agricultural show so the Stanton could be a possibility for one of the sections. I bought the Ahead of the curve kindle version - no waiting.
Hi Whitney! What do you look for when buying fleece? I am lining a cape and your 3/4 zip Stanton is awesome! I am off the ask the kido about the dress add on now. I can see it being a favorite.
Fleece can be a tricky one as there are definitely varying qualities out there. I usually go with a fabric company that I trust and go from there. The fleece I used for this 1/4 zip is actually cotton (which is crazy) and has a really nice "sherpa" texture!
Hello Whitney. The dress you are wearing looks just beautiful on you, I reckon that the color blue you are wearing really suits you. I am a member of the Cashmerette Club, and I won't lie, I was VERY disappointed that this month pattern was just an expansion pack, where if you don't own the original pattern (I do) you are expected to purchase it, after you have paid for your month membership. I will give the CC a few more months but if the monthly pattern doesn't improve, I will cancel my membership, and I am sure that I am not the only one feeling this way. I am also a member of Seamwork and have been for a while now, but like you I do 'forget' them sometimes too. Anyway, I highly recommend the Style Arc 'Nina' cardigan I have nearly finished mine and it is just gorgeous. Take care Lovely and as always... Love to Gidget xxxx
I just wanted to jump on quickly to say that you actually get given the Stanton pattern *as well* for free with the expansion pack as part of the Club membership this month (all tiers), so you don’t have to buy the original pattern to use the expansion pack, you get it free.
Hi! Jenny from Cashmerette here. Anyone who’s a member gets the Stanton base pattern, not just people who join this month :) check your account to find it there!
Luving this Stanton hoodie dress...I definitely need at least one or 2 for winter in my wardrobe 😄.. speaking of pattern hacking.. I always avoid quarter zips as I don't like the zipper feel on my neck.. is there a way to cover the zipper sort of like on a pant zipper fly?.. I love the way the Love notions Sunday Romper fits.. do you think its possible to add some sleeves for fall/winter months? Hope you have a great Labour Day weekend (I think this is the only holiday except for Christmas that has the same name and date as Canada)🍂🍁
You could definitely add a placket piece for behind the zipper (like a zip fly in pants). I'll play around with that and see if I can come up with a video!
None of the patterns from seamwork never worked out for me and the price was high. My goal this year is to support American Makers. Thanks for your video.
Love your makes. I have 2 PDF patterns now. But------------ how the heck do I enlarge the printed copy in my printer. I have tried. No luck. Just wasted so much printing and not getting the correct end result. Any suggestions/help you can give, I would soooooooooooo appreciate it. thank you-Terri
Do you have "fit to size" selected in the print option or "actual size" selected? That will pop up in Adobe when you select to print. It needs to be at actual size. That might help.
I turned the Kersoe into a dress this past Sunday and I'll be doing a sleeve hack on the Foxhill next Sunday. The following week will be a neckline hack on the Honeybourne and then the final week will be making the Magna pants wide legged!
Hello. I just joined the Cashmerette Club based on this video and past info from Whitney. I was just reviewing the pattern and saw it is 54 pages to print at home?? Is that right? Are you all printing at home and taping/cutting all of those pages or am I missing something here? Thank you!
Take a look at the instructions. You won't have to print all the pages. It will instruct you which ones you need depending on which cup size you are or what features you'll be sewing.
Loved this video! I have just joined the Cashmerette Club as I wanted the Stanton Hoodie but couldnt get it with the entry level membership. So excited to try it as well at the new expansions. Just a quick question Whitney - how would you say the quarter zipper expansion of the Stanton compares to the Love Notions Constellation Hoodie? I have that pattern in my stash and haven't used it yet and I know that you have made both xx
The Constellation has a zipper that ends at the seam across the front (where the pocket attaches) so it is pretty easy to sew. This has you sew the zipper like a zipper placket. Its a little trickier, but not too bad. Personally, I like the fit I get better with the Stanton, but I have made many Constellations (as well as the men's counterpart) and my kids love that pattern.
I liked the video, but I found that every time I paid for a membership, I am only interested in at most half of the patterns. So for me, it’s cheaper and more fun to just buy what I like and use.
Great sales pitches, wonderful garments. I saw nothing about sewing economically. Upcycling? Thrifting? Scrap busting? Hoarding? ?????????Just lots of encouragement to buy. Many of us out here are passionate about our sewing and come or have come from a place of need and this video did not address that at all. Then there are the environmental impact issues and sewing economically helps that every step of the way. Very dissapointed, Whitney.
I'll be covering a lot of different topics this month. This one was highlighting how to make the most of patterns we have and using patterns from companies that fit our individual bodies.
The website for Cashmerette says that you get the base Stanton hoodie included with the expansion pack for free. I checked my download and the base hoodie is there.
I just use medial exam paper when I'm tracing. It's thin enough to see the lines through it and its relatively inexpensive and I can get it off Amazon!
@@TomKatStitchery I guess I'm more looking for what ki d of light source you use. I've tried taping up on a sliding glass door, put it is not ideal. The other pattern lines come through
@@carolohalloran5099 ahh! I have a florescent light right above my cutting table that makes seeing the lines through the medical exam paper really easy. That being said, I did just discover that this book as a link in it for all the patterns digitally. I quickly downloaded those and will be printing out the remaining patterns 😂. I hate tracing.
I’m a member of Sew Confident with Linda Lee. It is very very expensive, does NOT include the patterns. The patterns do not fit my body shape or my style well so I will not rejoin next year. Cashmerette Club is much more affordable, includes the patterns, the patterns fits me better, and are more my style😊
I'm a member of the Cashmerette Club as well as the 5 Out of 4 Family. I love the 5oo4 Family. Yes, there's a free pattern monthly, but there are so many more things they offer. Book clubs, supportive people, Peer Groups that meet online at various times, and more. They only accept new members twice a year. They're opening up the Family in October. Check it out. My Peer Group is wonderful.

The Stanton is free for all this month! It's a fabulous deal!
That's a fabulous goal!
Hi. Were you aware Whitney that you can download PDF’s from a link in the book?
I wasn't until this morning 😂. I'll definitely be doing that going forward!
I HAVE THAT BOOK!!! SO can't wait for Sunday's video. Which dress are you starting will ( so I can have fabric and pattern ready)
@@TomKatStitchery thanks so much for this feedback Whitney. I think I’ll try both and get back to you with my feedback. I so enjoy your channel! 😘
I liked the video, but I found that every time I paid for a membership, I am only interested in at most half of the patterns. So for me, it’s cheaper and more fun to just buy what I like and use.
This is an excellent point!
Those are both so cute on you!
Thank you!
The website for Cashmerette says that you get the base Stanton hoodie included with the expansion pack for free. I checked my download and the base hoodie is there.
I saw that! That is a FABULOUS deal!
I would love to see a video on how you hacked the Stanton hoodie into a jacket. Ps. Love these videos 😘.
The original pattern includes a view that is a jacket! Its a lovely hoodie pattern!
@@TomKatStitchery thanks, I missed that, I’ll check it out.
The dress you have on is making you look taller and thinner is it homemade and if so is it a env. Pattern or pdf.
Check the description. She always includes what she’s wearing.
Thank you so much! That is the Olympia Dress by Love Notions. I love it!
Whitney, I received a book of pattern book similar to the one you showed. What is the best (your favorite) way to trace off a pattern like that
I just use medial exam paper when I'm tracing.
Do you know a pattern dolman sleeve A line dress for full bust?
Love Notions has the Vivace Top and Dress that features a dolman sleeve and includes a full bust front option!
I Love this, all of this 💜
I'm so glad!
They could not have selected a better collaborator! 😅🥰
Right back atcha!
I way be joining love it
I've been very pleased with it!
Why did you use fold over elastic?
The pattern calls for bias tape, but I had some fun FOE I wanted to use so I just swapped it!
Or the Wexford ;)
I just made a Wexford and there will be MANY more!
@@TomKatStitchery I haven’t had a chance to yet, but it’s on my ever growing list.
Ditto.
That's interesting to hear! I've been a big fan of the Cashmerette Club so far!

That's such a fun idea!
Mood fabrics has tons of free.patterns
They do! I'll have to talk more about all the free patterns available!
