This is a good video for those who are just starting out with Doordash. On the subject of making sure the restaurant isn't forgetting the customer's drinks, it also helps to have a few spare beverage holders in your care. Occasionally, a restaurant may be out of holders and it will make that delivery harder. It's nice to have a few spares so that you can always use one of your holders if a restaurant is out of them and there are multiple drinks in that order.
..remember too (most of time doordash neglects to tell us..) ..that since we’re independent contractors we can write off netflix, cell phone, gas, car insurance bills on our year end taxes😉 keep those receipts & keep track of your mileage!! (especially since we’re putting wear & tear on our vehicles from miles)
I don't think you can write off Netflix. Cell phone, yes. However, car-related expenses are covered in the mileage write-off. You cannot deduct mileage and then deduct gas and insurance on top of that. Mileage is supposed to cover your car related expenses. I suggest that you find a good accountant. They are worth it!
I never use the hotspots in app I know my market so I just go near restuarants that delivery with dd. If I log on while still home I just wait 5 min or so until I get a order to leave. Another thing I do since my region is large to save gas I just go to around corner or to a shopping center near last deliver and wait for next order. GPS is your friend.
Great video! I actually just became a DD driver and I also work at big chain restaurant as Takeout . It’s cool to see different sides of things lol I know that when the order doesn’t show the items it means that the customer placed the order through the restaurant and not the DoorDash app. Also, it helps to always ask for the items especially drinks. When it’s busy we sometimes forget the drinks or we don’t see them 😊
What a great video! I have no interest in Door Dashing myself, but I order from the service frequently enough. After ordering lunch through the app today, I got curious about how the service worked from an employee’s point of view. I sure do appreciate those who deliver my meals, so thank you for what you do!
Oh Ashley - you're born for youtube... Thank you soooo much for just keeping it real for us while also keeping it classy and professional. I absolutely adore you. Your voice is super easy to listen to and I greatly appreciate the fact that you don't have crazy music playing in the background or in the foreground of this video. That's always super frustrating for a person who needs to be able to strongly focus on what you're saying. Thank you for doing this video for us...
This was such a informative and interesting video! Thanks for all the tips and tricks, really appreciated! I wouldn’t have even thought about keeping track of mileage for taxes.
Hi Beautiful...this video truly inspired me to give it a shot! I live in Las Vegas & have my own businesses. This will allow me to get outside, get exercise & share a little joy! I’ll start tomorrow & definitely feel confident!!! Peace & Blessings
Thanks so much for the information, Ashley. I'm presently working with Skip, and just signed up and will soon be seeing how Dash compares against Skip. Great detail in the video. Cheers.
I would love to see a video that walks me and talks me through a full door dash after the fact... so record it in the moment, leave that hard to focus background music out, and talk me slowly through the process of an order coming in - what do you look at, what helps you to decide whether to take the order or not, what are the things you consider? Once you take the order, talk us through the details of how the app works from there. My first order took me forever to figure out how to do everything in a timely manner and I ended up getting tagged as not having delivered it on time, when in fact, I had delivered it at least 5-10 minutes early. Also, where do you put your purse? Some of the areas I deliver to are not the most trustworthy and full of character, integrity, and respect. I worry about my purse when I jump out to run a delivery up to a house. Things I found hard to figure out on my first day dash today: 1. How do I look at the screen and know whether it is worth my time and drive? 2. How do I know what the full amount of miles will be? 3. Once finished, do I drive back toward a hotspot to pick up another delivery or stay where I'm at? 4. Is there a way to tell where I'm being sent ahead of time? (I live in Indiana and it sent me across the border to a rough neighborhood in Illinois today. I grew up in a neighborhood like that and I know what goes on. I was not prepared and should never have been over there.) 5. How do you go into the app and send the customer a text? Are you doing this through the app or through your own text message? 6. I actually live in a rough and unsafe area... How do I drive to a safer area where I can work? Do I have to find the hotspot or can I just go to the area and then pick up orders from there? 7. What app or process do you use for tracking mileage, vehicle maintenance, etc? 8. I know I'm missing some things. For a type A - Highly sensitive personality and a total introvert (functional introvert but nonetheless...), I was a little overwhelmed with it all. I wish I could have had time to play in a "test" version to really learn my way around the app and figure out how to navigate it but because they don't offer that, I need a video that at least takes the time to show these things - and preferably, a previously recorded dash that has been gone back through and voiced over to explain everything...
I get those orders at least once per dash from what I understand those type of orders are when the customer orders directly though the restuarant and not doordash. I get orders like that from chipotle and Panera bread. So say I call chipotle and say I want a sandwich and it's a delivery order chipotle will fulfill the order and then use dd to make delivery you don't see items ordered.
Thank you for this! It’s good to see different Door Dashers experiences. I do Door Dash as well. I live in Murfreesboro, TN but I schedule my shifts in Brentwood, TN which is a more upscale area (about 30 minutes away) but I make decent money. I made over $700 in December in a total of 11 days. I do have slow days, I had one yesterday. Good video girl!
I just signed up & haven't went on my 1st Dash yet. Here in the Metro Detroit area we don't have to schedule our hours, we can just choose our areas & 'Dash Now'. I really appreciate the way you explained everything. You truly relieved a lot of anxiety I was having. DoorDash should pay you for this, FRFR. One question before I start...with us still in the midst of this horrible pandemic how safe is it? I mean of course I'm wearing a mask & gloves, but what about your customers, are they in mask when you deliver their food? Do you have any customers that you just leave their order on the porch & have no contact? I'm not a germafob, but I am HIGH RISK. Is this something I SHOULD NOT do? Thank you. CBS - Detroit, MI Metro Area Dasher😊
Thankfully all of the orders that I have taken have specified that I leave the item on the porch. I don’t want to advise whether or not you should do this seeing as how you are high-risk. I would say maybe try one or two orders. Once you accept an order you’re able to go to the notes section. There it will specify whether or not the customer wants you to leave items on the porch. You can determine from there if you want to keep the order or not. But if you release an order it will count against your acceptance rate
Tha k you so much! I really like the way the you brought this every day dashing, I will start next Monday , I have everything in place ready to start dashing and you clear the questions the I have! I appreciate you so much! Thank you again
How can you tell the plus tips pay i got so confused on my first two days and i want to do my 3rd day tomorrow...also how can i switch customers ? Like for example one customer sent me wrong address but i didn't know how to switch from her page to the other customer and i ended up super late from the other customer and i felt bad because i didnt know how to switch customers and i really wanted to deliver the other customer food first. I had to explain to doordash i didnt know how to switch customers and that the first customer sent me wrong address
Sorry, I am just now seeing this. For me, if a customer puts in the wrong address and they text me about it... I immediately contact door dash customer service and I tell them to do the same. I do not let them give me a new address over text, for safety reasons. They need to contact doordash customer service and have them change it in the app. To switch the customer - you just need to back out of the first order and choose the second one. This is kind of hard to explain in writing but once you back out of the current order that you are in, you will see both orders. You can select the one you want to look back from there.
Ashley Great video! Thinking Door Dash should pay you for this video. I am just starting to be a Dasher and I feel a lot better now. I feel more informed and comfortable now that I have watched your video. I did stay to the end and I'm glad I did. To see you go through the delivery was very helpful. You covered a lot of great points and tips. Thank You so much for offering this video! Tony D. Have a Good Day!
Shalom Ashley! My name is Yoel. This is a beautiful video that really engages in the demystification of DoorDash. May I ask, would you be a Dasher during inclement wintry weather? Do you think orders increase or decrease during the winter?
Is this the sort of thing someone can do as they travel the country or if they are making a living while living on the road as a "nomad"? Does Doordash report your tips to the IRS? If not how much do you have to officially tell the IRS about? Does Doordash keep track of your miles like they do for your earnings and tips? Are you limited to your geographical area where you live? So not to confuse it with my earlier question about "road warriors" but say like you want to expand beyond your home turf but will come back to "base camp" or your home? I've seen Doordash they allow more than 4-wheeled vehicles such as bikes, trikes, walking, and motorcycles (and their electric counterparts). With an e-bike/e-trike you legally don't need a license or insurance or registration. With those as long as they are legally viewed as human powered vehicles with battery assist and even full throttle you can operate them on the roads (typically not the highways except for one particular brand). Then there are services like Turo where you can rent a car for as little as $22/day with 500 miles of fuel and insurance.
I started door dash today and the app would not swipe once I arrived to pick up the food. It was the most stressful thing I've ever experienced. The first time I had to chat with Support, they said it wasn't fixed then it happened again. So I just ended my shift.
there may have been a glitch in the system... I didn't dash today but I am in a Facebook group for Dashers in my area and I saw several people talk about the same issue you experienced today. I would say suggest joining your local Facebook Dasher group... it really helped me a lot. You'll see if there are any system issues to look out for, restaurants that you may or may not want to pass on and other pointers etc
when you start your shift are you just driving around in your area until an order comes through or do you park somewhere close to restaurants for an order to come in? im thinking there would be a lot of gas wasted just driving around waiting for an order to pop up? thanks for any info you can share.
Hi Mike! I track my own milage manually. I believe the DoorDash app provides a link to a milage tracker for a small fee. As for a dash cam, Im not sure what you are referring to. To film, I use a small camera or my phone. To capture the DoorDash imagines I use the screen recording future within iPhone
"Great video! Ioved it! Wish it went on forever!" Very well done, and you look and sound perfect for the camera!..Hey, the more information, the better!
Also I've found that the only times I'm not on time is if the merchant is late on the food being ready, but it still docks me for the lateness. I have a 93% on time or early now because of some restaurants not being ready
I definitely agree that they need to update the rating system in all areas. A lot of the times the errors are not the drivers fault. I had a customer tell me they were going to give me a 1 star rating because they saw me "just driving around" ... I actually had triple orders, so I had to pick up 3 different orders from 3 different restaurants and deliver them... but what can we do? I've decided not to even look at the ratings lol
Great video when I first stated dd I could just would dash now not any more my area is too saturated now best to schedule now if I want to work dd. Otherwise work other available app.
Im new at this.. Do i need to wait till I receive my hot bag & red card in the mail before I can start..? How do I pay for first delivery/pickup..? Wht app did u use to track ur mileage & was it free (frm Google playstore/android).?
You do need your card before you start working. In some cases you need to purchase the food for the customer and you need your card to do so. As far as the bag, its recommended to use it. I know of some customers that will rate you low for not using it as it helps to keep the food warm. I track my own milage but some people do use an app
Nice video 😊. I'm from Glastonbury ct I'm gonna start dashing today!! And hey it's january now to just like in your video haha. This isn't my full time gig either but i defenetly need the money since I'm taking ballroom dance classes at Arthur murray and modeling claases and john cassablancas. And also i usually get of my shift around 2oclock 3 oclock. When i have money saved up maybe i could visit you i heard virgina beach is beautiful 😊. P.s you look a lot lime my cosuin anais haha 😛❤
Do not trust the drive time estimates from the app. Heavy traffic, slow restaurants, difficult or confusing addresses or just vast underestimations by DoorDash will affect delivery times. Do not trust them to know your area.
Once you accept an order, do other orders come in? As in, do you get multiple orders at once or does it kind of pause once your doing the order you accepted. Make sense?
Hi There... Yes, after I did over 100 deliveries they started to give me stacked orders like that. When that happens just complete the orders in the order that they came in. So go get the first orders food then pick up the second orders food.... then deliver the first order ... second order etc. the only thing I don't like about that is the customer can see where you are on their app. Ive had a couple customers asking where I was going lol
Thanks for this video. First day on the job and i was just doing dash now but then by error i did a schedule for the next hour.....now after that hour was up it will not allow me to dash any more for the day.....is there any way around this
You would need to schedule your shift. The dash now option only appears when someone has released a shift and no one picked it up or there are orders than there are drivers at the time.
Lately, I've only been dashing on the weekends. I will say, with the new Top Dasher field you really have to make sure your customer rating is high. I hate to say this but I don't even worry about my acceptance rating anymore. If I don't get at least a dollar per mile, I won't take the dash. I don't really have any new tips though ....
It might depend on the state that you live in but in my state of Va you don’t need commercial insurance. I personally set aside 30% because I don’t want to take any chances.
I’ve been looking into doordash and just trying to make extra cash but I’m nervous bc of people I may run into? Have you had any bad encounters with people you’ve delivered too? Especially being a young female it makes me a little hesitant to sign up
I haven’t had any bad experiences thus far. I had a lot of reservations at first but after I did it the first time I just got more comfortable with the idea. I do know some people that will take their better half with them... that may be an option for you. I would suggest maybe picking up day shifts in the beginning until you get comfortable
you are very cute ashley, i just started doing doordash in new york. do you have to pay attention to the pick up times and delivery times? do they penalize you if you deliver or pick up orders after the specified time?
Hey I haven’t received my door dash packet but it said I can start now. I recently moved and I think I need to get it to send to my current address. Do u know how to change that ?
If you have a hub in your area, you can just go to the office and pick up a package. If not, you can call DoorDash and have them send your package to the new address
Yesterday was my first door dash delivery which I started from 7:30-10:30pm and made $17. + some cents. I have turned down many orders because it was my first day door dashing so, I just wanted to make sure I finished delivering the order to the customer before I accept another one, but by the time I have finished 1 order then , no more order came in after that, so I decided to end my shift.
How does income tax work for this job. How do u file your income taxes per year. Just trying to figure this out. Cause this isn't a regular job or business.
You should receive a 1099 as you are considered a independent contractor. I personally take my taxes to be professionally prepared so unfortunately I wouldn’t be able to help you in this area
You are an independent contractor. Therefore, you are required to pay your own taxes. You won't have payroll taxes taken out, so you will be required to pay self-employment taxes. Your business deductions will be put on a Schedule C (Profit or Loss From Business) form, and that is where you account for cell phone and mileage expenses.
Hey there! I put 30% of everything I make aside. I do have a friend who pays her actual taxes every 6 months. I'm not quite sure of the steps/process to that though. For me, its just easier to put the 30% aside.
If you decide to do this full-time (or a lot), you can set up quarterly tax payments so that you don't owe a huge chunk at the end of the year. They are due 4/15, 6/15, 9/15 and 1/15.
This is a good video for those who are just starting out with Doordash. Here in AZ virus is bad this seems pretty safe thanks for sharing your time and knowledge this will be My first.
i have a tip for you ashley. you can do door dash and uber eats at the same time. just put door dash on pause when you get a uber eats delivery,
If you pause your shift for more than 30 mins the app will erase your shift and you will lose your scheduled time
The video was very helpful. It really explained a lot. Thanks sweetheart

Oh my gosh - head's up y'all... As of 1/18/2021, you have 30 seconds to decide whether you want to accept that order or not. Just so you know.

I personally do not dash because of the risk of covid but everyone in my local DoorDash fb group says they are making Bank

Simply Ashley the only reason why I look at them is because I heard they’ll deactivate you if your ratings fall below a certain point :(
Great video when I first stated dd I could just would dash now not any more my area is too saturated now best to schedule now if I want to work dd. Otherwise work other available app.
Finally a informative video!!! Thank you 😊 sis
No problem 😊
Im new at this.. Do i need to wait till I receive my hot bag & red card in the mail before I can start..? How do I pay for first delivery/pickup..? Wht app did u use to track ur mileage & was it free (frm Google playstore/android).?
You do need your card before you start working. In some cases you need to purchase the food for the customer and you need your card to do so. As far as the bag, its recommended to use it. I know of some customers that will rate you low for not using it as it helps to keep the food warm. I track my own milage but some people do use an app
Hi If I am scheduled to only work in one area can I change to another area on the same schedule?
You are absolutely adorable and I enjoyed watching your video to the end! It was very helpful also!
Thank you!

@@SimplyAshleyH ah, i see. Thanks for the response!
Stunning...I mean very helpful video and professional...Can't look away...Thanks so much!
Thank you!
This was so informative! I watched til the end, thanks so much for all the info 💗
Thank you!!!!! 🤗
Great video, thank you. How is the business going, any new tips? Is Doordash a double opportunity at this moment in your opinion?
Lately, I've only been dashing on the weekends. I will say, with the new Top Dasher field you really have to make sure your customer rating is high. I hate to say this but I don't even worry about my acceptance rating anymore. If I don't get at least a dollar per mile, I won't take the dash.
I don't really have any new tips though ....
@@SimplyAshleyH thanks for your input, I wish you the best.
Great video. How did you get on the page that shows you what days the bonuses are on. I’ve kinda new at DoorDash
Hey There! It will be listed under the Promos icon.
Do you need a commercial insurance to do this? And how much taxes do you need to set aside
Yes, if your order is delivered late it will affect your “On time or early” score
Good instructions. Gratitude
Thanks!
I'm thinking of joining the Doordash family. If I schedule let's say Tuesday 12 pm through 9 pm and stop working at 6 pm. Would I be penalized?
No, you would just end your dash... DoorDash will put rest of the hours you gave up back into the schedule for others to pick up
Hello Ashley. Im a dasher as well. but what I want to know is what kind of work at home job do you have..?
Hi Elizabeth! I am a Business Analyst for an insurance company.
@@SimplyAshleyH Thanks for the reply.
Do you have to finish delivering the order before you accept another order that comes in?
No, I’ve gotten a lot of stacked orders you so you can accept multiple orders at once
Hey I haven’t received my door dash packet but it said I can start now. I recently moved and I think I need to get it to send to my current address. Do u know how to change that ?
If you have a hub in your area, you can just go to the office and pick up a package. If not, you can call DoorDash and have them send your package to the new address
When you get to the merchant, is the order under the customers name?
Yep
Thank You for the Tips✍️👩🏫
Say if I wanted to do doordash but I don't have a driver's license to drive but I have my own driver could I still do it
I don’t think so. When you sign up you have to give them your drivers license number
@@SimplyAshleyH ok thank u love
@@SimplyAshleyH well I just subscribed to your channel you think you can show the love back
Norva is cool been there..5 yrs
Yesterday was my first door dash delivery which I started from 7:30-10:30pm and made $17. + some cents. I have turned down many orders because it was my first day door dashing so, I just wanted to make sure I finished delivering the order to the customer before I accept another one, but by the time I have finished 1 order then , no more order came in after that, so I decided to end my shift.
Yeah, I would agree that it’s better to get your feet wet first prior to accepting multiple orders... Your next time dashing will probably be better
VA BEACH?? Omg!! I was just looking at these. I live like 20 minutes away from there!
This was great Thank you
NICE JOB. THANK YOU !!!
Do dasher pay or file for taxes?
Yes, you have to pay taxes for any income over $600
This was super helpful! I just have one question. Do people ever too in cash?
Some people do but I find that most tip via the app
Doordash was good until they got crowded. Way to many people doing it now its getting to where its not worth it
How does income tax work for this job.
Your business deductions will be put on a Schedule C (Profit or Loss From Business) form, and that is where you account for cell phone and mileage expenses.
is there a minimum of hours you have to work? saturday, sunday, holidays required?
You can work as much as you want. Keep refreshing the schedule slots to get more time.
Can customers pay cash or give you cash tips?
Customers pay for their order via the app... but it’s up to them if they want to give you a cash tip or tip you on the app
Thank you! I'll be trying DoorDash kinda nervous, but I will be following these tips 😊
👏 thank you !!
Can u dash now without red card or bag yet?
You do not need the bag to start dashing but you do need your red card as you will have some orders that you will need to pay for using the red card.
@@SimplyAshleyH k thanks you helped A lot 2nd day doing it now
More doordash videos🎥
Are you still door dashing?
Not since the pandemic started
Good morning
757 representing!!!!!!!!!!
so why during the lunch shift did you just drive around wasting gas? why not park and wait for one to pop up?
You do good job like your video
On point
At .58 cents per mile write off, it will almost be a tax free income .
Doordash just not worth it period point blank 😫😩
Good video. I find it hard to believe people pay to get prepared food delivered though. I'm too cheap I guess.
you're so cute!!!
Thank you!
I concur....
she is
Pretty lady! 💛💜💛💐
The Doordash of 8 months ago, when this video was made, no longer exists.
Girl you're so fine😍😘
16 dollars an hour is bad. Take out fuel, wear and tear, and taxes. You are left with nothing. Door dash is a rip off
How do you handle taxes? Do you put aside x amount?
