Food & photography! (& beach) I’m headed to Playa del Carmen soon & may also headed to Mérida. I’m planning to make a move in the next year & would love to meet up with you two gems if that is even in the realm of possibility!! Just wanted to put it out to the universe.
My favorite to do on the beach is snorkeling specially in puerto Escondido so beautiful. If you guys never been there you should put it on your list, very wonderful place.. Bless you guys 👍
Voladores de Papantla are not Mayan, they are Nahua or Totonac, whole different cultures. That's how Mexico is, one country, one nationality with many, many ethnicities.
I have traveled extensively in Mexico (mostly to amazing and colorful colonial towns and pueblos magicos) all over the country. I can appreciate Playa del Carmen for what it is -- a tourist place for non-Mexicans -- but there is such a huge difference between real Mexico and tourist Mexico. And I love the real Mexico. Mexico is such a rich and diverse country with amazing history and cultures. The Cancuns and Playa del Carmen's of the world cheapen the image of Mexico and reduce it to a party hub. Keep up the good work with the videos! You guys do a great job.
I agree! I grow going to Mexico every summer to see family that live in a pueblo. It was a adventure just to get to the pueblo. Lol! It is VERY different from all the tourist towns in Mexico. Last year, I went to Puerto Vallarta and boy was I disappointed. We went to Acapulco, Tulum, Cancun as kids and they all have changed significantly. I love that you are visited other towns as well!
Brad, cannot agree with you more. Growing up in the USA was exposure to Tourist Traps everywhere they could make a buck. We moved to Merida and into a non-tourist neighborhood and bought a house and aren't going back! This is a new way of life for us but we stay away from the tourist world. We have met with Travis and David at two coffee meet-ups in Merida and they are great but I really don't need any further Tourist exposure.
@@meatgravylard You are right. Mexico is multi faceted. Most of Playa del Carmen, especially west of the main highway, is inhabited by working class and professional Mexicans and their kids. The fact that the neighborhoods are generally relatively new and relatively modern makes them no less "real."
Oh my gosh, you guys are my new favorites!!! Your descriptions are great and you're funny... Plus you give actually helpful information. Yessss! Gotta go through all your videos... We'll be in the Yucatán in a week!
Hi guys. Really nice video. Ya fueron a pasar a SAN MIGUEL DE COZUMEL? Se los recomiendo muchísimo. Yo soy un Mexicano viviendo en el estado de Utah USA. Muy buenos videos, I’m happy for you guys leaving the life...😉
Love Playa del Carmen and Tulum. I first visited there in 2004 and watched the Red Sox win the WS for the first time in 86 years at a restaurant in Playa. The following year, I watched the weather as Hurricane Wilma sat over the Yucatan for 3 days decimating the area at the same time period as we were there the year before. We returned a year or two later and I remember being amazed at what a great job the area did recovering. I remember Xcaret being a great time, especially the evening show where they displayed some of the history and historical dance/dress of Mexico, including demonstrating the Mayan ball game.
Wish I could say that I still enjoy Playa but I just don't started going back in the late 90's and it was such a cool, one of a kind place. The Italian ex-pat population and all their amazing restaurants seem to be mostly gone now as is the local feel generally. So much commericalization just steamrolled the place. There are still good things about it but it is just not for me any longer.
Los voladores de papantla are not Mayan. They belong to the otomi and huastec tribes that were located in Central Mexico. There is a lot of history to be learnt if you want to understand why Mexico is so rich in culture. The first group that arrived to the American continent was the Mesoamerican. this group of people mainly settled in Mexico. This group of people was composed of different tribes and they lived in different parts of Mexico. For example, the Aztecs who were the warriors settled in the valley of Mexico city. Teotihuacan city was named by the Aztecs but it wasn't built by them. It is believed that the toltecs built the city hundreds of years before the Aztecs settled in the valley of Mexico. The toltecs were known for huge sculptures and building, they were the master builders. The Mayan mainly settled in the Yucatan Peninsula and they were known by their knowledge of astrology and math abilities they invented the zero for its astrological calculations. But to make the long story short there are many tribes or native groups in Mexico how many of these groups still exists who knows but it is known that are 60 different dialects that are still spoken in Mexico today and of course each dialect correspond to a different tribe so in every state in Mexico that you go to, you will find that customs and traditions are different thanks to the different groups that settled in that geographical area so they passed their customs and culture to their decedents so every state feels like it's a different country. After all, Mexico's official name is the United Mexican States but I'd say that the true identity is the United Mexican Countries. A note that has to be said is that Mexico is not really related to the rest of Latin America. Most of Mesoamericans settled in Mexico. Yes some groups did settle in parts of central America up to the northern Costa Rica. But when the Spaniards arrived they never brought Africans to Mexico or allowed Portuguese in Mexico. Spaniards wanted to keep Mexico as original as they found it. From Guatemala to the rest of the continent they brought millions of Africans. Also Portuguese and other nationalities helped to colonize the rest of the continent. In addition before the European colonization, the second group that arrived to the American continent settled in what it's now Peru. This group is not related to the Mesoamericans. This second group settled from Southern Costa Rica to Tierra de fuego in Chile. So Mexicans are not really related to the rest of Latin America before the colonization. After the colonization even more races where brought to Central America and South America. Also if we consider the different dialects still present in Mexico, Mexico is not entirely a Spanish or Latin country either.
Aww our friend just told us you gave us a shoutout thanks so much! What a beautiful organization. We’re so glad you got to experience this and highlight it for future travelers so they can donate as well! 💕
This ain’t related to the place but to the people, the way you two look at each other and are with each other is so heart warming and loving ♥️ two love birds and thank you for sharing that with us you #shinnyeyes
Honestly don’t know - we love so many places. If we were looking for a big city, we’d do CDMX or GDL, mid-size city probably QRO or San Luis Potosí, and if we wanted a beach probably Playa or Puerto Vallarta (or nearby Puerto Morelos).
I'm here now!!! Thank you for a wonderful video!!! Have fun guys!!! You guys seem sooooooo fun!! I also saw another UA-cam video that donated to KKIS and I am going to do the same. ❤
Love this video … I was in Playa for 1 day and didn’t like it bc it was way too touristy for me (I stayed in Puerto Morelos and it was calm and peaceful) but I love the areas you guys ventured to… and yummy food. I want to have foodie fest there now based on what you guys showed on this video. Thank you and congrats on the business ventured- wishing you both massive success with it 💗🙌🏼🙏
Hey guys, great that you are enjoying Playa. I have one question about Merida. I'm just wondering how much is Merida polluted? Do you feel it?;Air quality in Mex is not so good and we are looking for options. Thanks I will appreciate your experience on this topic. Have a fun.
Great tour of Playa del Carmen! So glad to see some things off the beaten path from the usual "tourist" spots. Also just ordered my bag coffee!! Can't wait to try it out! ☕️
My wife and I like your videos. We are planning on moving to Mexico. We are debating between Merida and Playa. Just wondering, why do you live in Merida and not Playa. Thanks
"Bus-lagged," heehee! I've noticed in the last few videos that your Spanish is getting noticeably better, perhaps I should check out Rocket Languages also. Glad you got north of the fray. It's wonderful to sit in a quiet beach restaurant up there with your feet in the sand gazing out at the water. Yo ni como pizza, clever! There are Voladores de Papantla at the Tulum archeological site also for anyone planning to visit - Anne

Playa del Carmen is real Mexico. Most of the people I have seen there over the last fifteen years are Mexicans.
