    Accidentally this trip just became more memorable because of the bonus adventure at the start. I like that part of the park and have camped at that sunset campsite.

      Yes, that's true! We really enjoyed that part of the park as well and will likely return. I think that particular site was one of the most sloped I've been on - was constantly sitting on an angle, lol. I did like that it had such a beautiful view overlooking the lake!

    Love the shots off the front of the canoe as i have a nova craft canoe too . Though my gunnels have been changed a few times .I also changed the hook system to an eye bolt. Also have taken that route into Nahma. The frantic voice and profanity are pure canoeing.

    Actually, I think a lot went right on that trip... including great weather! You got to explore a private creek and were later rewarded with two moose sightings and beavers too. If you did not paddle the creek first... you would have missed all the wildlife that came after. Looks like a memorable trip!

      You are so right! Plus, we switched our trip to a lake neither of us had been to before, which was a great new experience. I think we ended up exactly where we were meant to be.

    I've guided up that way for a long time. You guys were on Craig Creek. Great early season trout creek but not a canoeable route unless you really like walking lol. If you kept going upstream 4 or 5 km you'd have eventually come to a hydro dam halfway up Craig Lake. You were really looking for the South R. Nahma L. put in and the logger had you on the right track but you didn't go quite far enough. Good video all the same. I'm surprised the road was shut down by the loggers because that's a popular route inside the Park.

    • @andreabrand23
      @andreabrand23  4 місяці тому

      You are absolutely right! That's exactly where we were - if only I'd realized that in the moment... or perhaps had a copy of Jeff's new map, which wasn't out yet. I think running into the unexpected logging really disoriented us too. It was June and during the fire ban, so we saw very few people - maybe 3 max. and felt like we had the entirety of North Tea to ourselves. The year prior, we actually camped at one of the campsites right near that dam on Craig Lake. Originally we were heading to Jeepi Lake, which we've day tripped to before from Pishnecka. I'm told the word Jeepi comes from the word "Ghost" in an aboriginal language. I'd be curious to know if you know anything about this! This "mistake" trip was during the summer solstice and we also ran into obstacles getting to Jeepi using the portage from North Tea (I didn't film any footage of that), and we eventually scrapped trying to get there on this trip - which is a difficult thing for my stubbornness to come to terms with and allow. It felt almost as if there was something blocking us from getting there. A part of me wonders if there's a mystical reason - possibly that we weren't meant to access a sacred place during what some might consider a sacred time of year.

    • @andrewpace2267
      @andrewpace2267 4 місяці тому +2

      @@andreabrand23 Jeepi does mean ghost/haunted in Ojibway. Last time I was there I camped with 24 military cadets and 80 sled dogs in the winter of 2011. I spent fifteen seasons guiding dog sled and canoe trips all over that area. Actually where you put your canoe in at Craig Creek there used to be a dog sled camp on the left that could accommodate 50 people and 150 dogs!!
      The route into Jeepi and Cayuga and Charr Lakes is very hilly rocky and muddy from either side. It is a challenge even for advanced trippers and they are mainly used as a middle ground puddle jump between Craig and North Tea for good reason. As far as mystical I'd say the terrain and hazardous, remote nature of those routes lends an air of mystery and trepidation especially in bad weather:) Pishnecka means danger in the native tongue also. There is a great beach on that lake I'm sure you likely saw. The Northwest corner of the park is by far the funnest and remotest part of the park to explore and I hope you have many adventures there. Any questions about routes or campsites ask away.

    • @andreabrand23
      @andreabrand23  4 місяці тому

      I absolutely love it! Especially on trips with longer travel days I really appreciate how light weight it is. It does flutter a little bit at certain angles in the water, which I find less noticeable when bow paddling. Mine has been through years of consistent tripping, being scraped and pried against rocks... and still looks brand new.
