I signed for a 2017 ninja 1000sx yesterday, and I got it specifically for the comfortablility with my girl on the back, and on long distances. Really excited to pick her up, thanks for the video!!
So I found the exact same bike two months ago still brand new on a showroom floor left over. Sooo I bought it. Love this video. I put a shad 47L case on the back for my wife’s comfort and the storage is so nice. Love it compared to the old cbr 600 I had before.
A good honest review. I bought the same bike in Emerald Blazed Green 6 weeks ago. Still in the 4000 rpm break in period using the low power mode which helps to stay legal here in the UK with a max. 60mph on most roads, 70 mph on motorways. It's taking a little getting used to the close ratio short gearing after 5 years on a 1250 Bandit and the instruments aren't easy to read in strong light. Other than that I'm loving the bike.....comfortable, powerful & flickable, a great all rounder.
85waspnest I’ve got the same bike 👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌and I didn’t stick to the 4K rev limit,I just didn’t go above about 6k and I constantly altered my revs especially on the motorway... I did lots of reading about break in periods and I’ve come to the conclusion that as long as you don’t rev too high and for a long period at the same Revs it’s good for the bike .. the problem I found was that when I was following Kawasaki’s guide lines I was staying around the 4K mark too often and I think this is not the best .. so every now and again I went up to 6k.. then after 500 miles and first service I’d go up to 8k every so often .. I’ve done this with my last 4 bikes and had no problems yet ..:-)))
I'll creep go to 5000 rpm when overtaking on major roads but I don't use major roads much, they can be a bit boring. Most of my riding is on twisty country roads with the usual hazards of farm vehicles, horses, cyclists, joggers, mud, gravel & pot holes. 4000rpm is plenty adequate most of the time and it makes the revs easy to vary. ;-)
Depending on your driving record, motorcycle experience, the area you live and insurance no claims discount - Yes. I'm 65, live in a rural area (in the UK), no traffic violations or insurance claims with max. no claims discount, bike kept in a lock up garage and pay £150 for fully comprehensive cover including pillion & roadside breakdown assistance / recovery.
Awesome video had the 2015 sx 1000 try the cruise control from brake- away had it on mine. It was really good. Also once you get a 190-55-17 rear tire, it really makes the machine want to turn in so much better. It really makes a difference. Stay safe my friend.
Nice video, thank you. I just purchased a 2019 N1K and love it. I have noticed it's a hot running machine, especially around town. Seems to need a lot of airflow to cool properly. All in all, it's an amazing bike and I'm very pleased with the purchase.
To get rid of the twitching of the bike its not the fuel injection its the ecu settings because of euro 4 emissions. To fix a simple ecu flash will get rid of all the insane power restrictions and smoothness.
I have a 19my SX. Within six weeks I had over 5000 miles on the clock, 3700 in nine days, including one day of 820 miles. What a great bike for the price. I had a Harley Heritage before, and prior to that two GS 1200. This bike is as comfortable for touring as either of those. Tank range could be a little better, and cruise control would be good, other than that I have no issues with this bike.
As an owner of the same bike I recommend setting up the suspension for your weight, it makes a big difference to the handling. I weigh 210 lbs and found the front fork stock preload too stiff. One whole turn anti-clockwise from stock setting on both forks feels much better. The rear is set up 8 turns (out of 40) from the softest setting which may be okay for a 70lb girl. On measuring rider sag I found 5 turns anti-clockwise from max preload (35 turns from the softest) works well. Your mileage may vary. After playing around with the front and rear rebound I settled for the stock settings which feels okay on most roads. Beware of using a paddock stand to lube and maintain the chain because those bucket size silencers get in the way. They're also very close to the feet as you point out in your review. I replaced them with a pair of short stubby Carbons which sound the same or maybe a little deeper with the removable baffles fitted. These allow full access for a paddock stand. Finally, be careful using a paddock stand with U hangers and swinging arm spools as it's very easy to scratch the paint on the swinging arm. Either use the rubber covered L shape type stand supports or buy genuine Kawasaki spools which are wider and more protective than the aftermarket ones.
I weigh 155 lbs without gear. I finally dialed in my suspension after 2000 miles. At first I was so dissapointed with the suspension. Now, I’m loving this bike to the fullest. I found keeping the front preload and rebound damping at standard setting but the compression to almost the softest setting. And with rear suspension to keep the preload at standard setting and adjust the rebound to almost the softest setting.this is for street setting not track. Compression damping is the one responsible for absorbing bumps.I’m also an owner of a 2009 cbr 600rr.
Get the Sargent seat, you'll be amazed. I hated my original seat, it turned my bike into a 500 mile a day tourer with no discomfort. Revzilla delivered in two days!
Congratulations to a great bike. I have the 2017 version, it is a nice bike both on trackdays (wich you should try, you don´t have to go on full throttle. Or try to find a gocart-track, a lot of turning but not so much speed), commuting and longer travels. I don´t know if Kawasaki have made any changes for the tyres, if they havent you have a 50-profile on the rear. Try to go up to a 55-profile, it makes a huge differens when entering a corner (it will still be harder to throw around than a 300 though) but you don´t sacrifice any of the comfort. Enjoy it, drive safe!
To remove choppy throttle, try Ivan’s ECU flash. You send him your ECU and he will reprogram it to be a lot smoother and have less engine braking. Its $350 plus shipping, but its well worth it! Would probably make a popular review video as well 👍🏼
i ride a Z1000R. I understand perfectly everything you saying! I think Z1000R throttle response is even smoother than 650 in very slow speed (I moved from ninja 650)!
Damn i bought the 2014 version of this bike with side cases and titanium akrapovic exhaust. Still have to wait 2 weeks to get the paperwork done but i have already a vid in my channel where i picked it up. Color is silver/grey/titanium
I had 2012 Ninja 1k and insurance was not that much... for '12 Ninja 650 I was paying $25/mo (100/300/100) and for Ninja 1k I was paying only $16 more ($41/mo) - so that puts me close to $500/yr. However, age and clear record certainly helps :) (I am under 40) I sold the bike as I was not riding it enough (Chicagoland) but believe it or not I am reconsidering getting another one, same exact model - perhaps newer, less miles and ABS with modes (2013+) ... we'll see, I still have all of my gear :)
Yep, 300 to 1000! I paid $12,150 OTD, but the 2017s are going for much cheaper. The Ninja 1000 does not hold it's value well in the US since it's not that popular here.
Good review. Looking at this same model in the EU. I would miss the centre stand though. And oh man, I feel so sorry for you guys in the US whose culture can't generally accommodate lane splitting. Having to follow cars in traffic seems.... Off. for the concept of motorcycle convenience
Pain Akatsuki It has almost the same power (more low end torque even), but because it's a less aggressive styling, Kawasaki considers it to be a sport or sport touring bike
It feels like a 600cc super sports..I have the 2017ninja 1000 and 2009 Honda cbr 600rr and they pull almost the same. Top speed almost the same at 160-170mph(depends on the driver). The only difference is the handling at high speed. The Honda is always stable cause of the Honda’s electronic steering damper
i got the '18 emerald green the seat is rubbish and the s20 tyres that come on it are absolute rubbish after they are half worn and deadly in the wet my last 3 sets of tyres on my last bike were pirelli angels st's and gt's double the milage and double the grip as the oem bridgestones. best mod raise the forks in the triple clamp 10mm to lower the front end and i have rear preload 1 out from full. i have had it professionally setup im around 75 kg without gear handles heaps better quicker turn in but raises seat height a bit so im on my tippy toes and im 5'10"
If you want to get rid of the on - off throttle jolt ❗️get ethanol free fuel ⛽️ at the pump 92 octane and all the nasty throttle responses will be gone ⚡️⚡️
$3000 for insurance per year? Fuck that... Just get insurance(health/accident) for yourself. If you crash, the bike, then you crashed it. Then pay for it out of your own pocket.. it will be faster and maybe cheaper if it is only minor damage. If you totaled it then let it be. If it's stolen, it's your fault not safe guarding it. If you didn't crashed it because you ride it well, you won and it is your reward. They should definitely make this bike lighter when cornering.. I mean it's a SPORTS bike right?
Bad idea, this option sounds great as long as you are going through life nice and boring like, but once something happened like with me and your in that accident, good insurance is a God send.
4k rpm for 500 miles? This noob shit is painful to listen to. Worry more about changing your oil early and often. And yes, it is smooth but it is still a liter bike and has a lot of power. Twist the throttle too hard in 1st or 2nd gear and you WILL be catwalking it down the road. Guess how I know.

Will it be cheaper insurance for a middle age men ?

The 2020 version now has cruise control! Also a TFT display :o

Congratulations to a great bike.

Good review man👍 you touched on a lot of good points.
You make a 1000 sound great.
It really is a great bike
Did your insurance drop yet? I pay 600/yr full coverage but that is pa not tx
BEST REVIEW!
How much blinker fluid does it use yearly.
Not much. But you have to keep an eye on it
Beautiful bike and ride safe my friend!
You need to check geico. I have a 15 Z1000 full coverage for 130 dollars a year. I insure an 18 road glide special and the Z for under 600 a year.
Great review!

No quick shifter and auto blip right for that bike
good review
That does happen on the 300 a lot, the stuck on neutral
I don’t know if you noticed that it consumes more gas on traction #2. I have the 2017 model by the way.
Fantastic bike and nice review! Enjoy your new toy ;) greetings from germany
Very nice you went 300 to 1000...i went 300 to 650 still a nice bike...as always ride safe...
Thanks, you too!
That’s what I’m abojt to do to I have a 300 ABS I’m getting either a 2019 ZX-6R or this one
Nice, how much can I pick one up for now, 2018
I've got the 2013.
And be careful with those highway roll ons, it'll spin the tire at 120mph it's scary when you feel that squirming!
That's what the slipper clutch is for.
Did you go from a 300 to that? And how much was the 1000 otd?
Yep, 300 to 1000! I paid $12,150 OTD, but the 2017s are going for much cheaper. The Ninja 1000 does not hold it's value well in the US since it's not that popular here.
That bike look good ..but my 300 gas tank and my money in my pockets say Different ... good video bud As usual 👍
That's great but you ain't shit if I seen you on my 1000 I would just laugh also I got money only broke boys buy 300s lmfao go get a grom
@@thanosbustedinyourmum only broke boys talk shit about others bikes/riders. bet you real quite irl huh. bet you dont even have a bike kid
I realize you published this video last year, but damn! You sounded like this was your first bike. Do you have a 1 year review?
The stock tire will be wore out at 3k depend on how you ride it of course.
Dang, good to know!
Nationwide understands it's not a super sport racer, get a quote, you'll be amazed
Good review. Looking at this same model in the EU. I would miss the centre stand though. And oh man, I feel so sorry for you guys in the US whose culture can't generally accommodate lane splitting. Having to follow cars in traffic seems.... Off. for the concept of motorcycle convenience
i like this bike. between this or the tracer 900. looking this as a sports touring that my wife can go in the back
is this considered a superbike? i mean in the league of yamaha r1.
Coz the price difference is quite high between them.
Pain Akatsuki It has almost the same power (more low end torque even), but because it's a less aggressive styling, Kawasaki considers it to be a sport or sport touring bike
No it's a sport touring. The 1000 cc supersport of kawasaki is ZX10r
What is it's mileage
Adityanarayan Nayak He said its 30 miles per gallon.
Positive neutral finder switch it's a bad system for Kawasaki it really socks ass.

liability brings it to $351 a year, but if the crash falls to you, you eat the cost.
