I saw this line up when they played Chicago. It seemed like they were just oing through the motions, and Greg Ginn was just cashing in on the Black Flag name, and jumping on the punk nostalgia bandwagon. Flag was much better. Ron Reyes talked about the reunion in many places, and basically said that greg Ginn was a quick tempred violence prone jerk. I love Black Flag from the original Nervous Breakdown e.p. up to the In My Head album, and I can't totally bad mouth Greg Ginn, because he went through a lot, as did the band, but I also can't excuse his behavior, either.
I bet most of the audience didn’t even know what was going on. From what I’ve read Ron said he saw the writing on the wall and knew his time was up. In the middle of the song Mike V came onstage, gave Ron a mad dog glare and told him “ That’s it, your done, your times up”. He took the mic and finished the rest of the set and that’s that. I didn’t even know about it until way later. I had tickets to a Black Flag show at the Hollywood Palladium and expected to see anybody but Mike V. I was less than impressed. FLAG llll is the far better band imho. Anyway, hopefully someone will read about what happened and realize they have a recording of it from the show.

They got one of the guys from the opening act to jump up and sing as well, so I didn't notice any firing at all. I actually had to ask Mike V if it was really him because I was starstruck as a big skateboarding fan. Only realised later when my friend who was there also told me the real story.
I think Ron's vocals were too good for this band so they booted him. Look at the garbage they were playing here before he comes in. Just total fucking dogshit. It was a weird set so ya didn't really know what was going on with the vocalists coming and going. Not everything was audible. I put up a phone video too, but can't remember if I caught what you referred to.

If youve heard process of weeding out this isnt surprising to see him attempting some avant garde instrumental noise. black flag was ginns project. his sound made it what it is. He doesnt seem to get much credit for that. Flag is a cash in and should be viewed as an embarassment.
Ron Reyes was one of the best BF singers. I saw them on this tour and the killed it. Saw them with Mike V and they sucked so bad I left after 10 mins. Haven't had a desire to see them since.
Yeah this gig was actually harrowing seeing everybody decide Mike would be a better fit for BF when they had an original singer with them already, pretty cooked stuff.
My thing with him is you can hear him developing his own style of punk guitar when you listen to the early Black Flag releases. When he takes solos he plays wrong notes and stuff but it seems completely stylistic and on purpose. When you listen to My War and Slip it In you can hear the style he was developing pretty much at it's peak. Those are the Black Flag albums I really enjoy. I think the guitar style on those albums is great and Greg had a cool idea with the instrument and being ugly and discordant.
@@plntpls plus he repeats a lot of the “wrong notes” so he knew what he was doing. Something happened to him later for sure though but he hasn’t a great drummer behind him in awhile either
