When I watch videos or read on the laptop or phone it's not that bad, but once I do math on them, my eyes start burning and getting super tired.
I put a light app on it, it helps.
I have a pair of blue light glasses and I love them they work very well I use them while looking at my computer and television and yes they work well for driving and skiing and fishing .They protect the eyes ever so much and did you know that those artificial lights in the stores and warehouses and even the light emitting diode lights are blue lights and traffic lights are blue lights as well .I encourage anyone to research this .

I was experiencing a lot of anxiety and brain fog at work. I tried better managing stress excercicing etc. And even though those things definitely helped. Wearing yellow blue Light Glasses made my brain fog disappear. My primary doctor tells me I might be light sensitive. I don't get migraines but what I'm experiencing might be something in that avenue. Posting this in case anyone else is dealing with something similar. “You don’t need Blue light glasses if you don’t have to look at a screen all day”
My teachers online: *HAHA ESSAYS DUE TOMORROW GO BRRRR*
Actually very interesting to hear it from someone who knows what they're talking about, personally I find that my blue light glasses help with eye strain during the day and at night, especially when I'm staring at a screen for upwards of 2 hours.
I'm a full time student and I found that blue light glasses allowed me to not only work without getting fatigued, but also helped with my sleep patterns. During Co-Vid19 it's been especially difficult to regiment screen-time considering all classes have transferred to the digital realm. I'm sure that other people under various circumstances are also increasing their screen time. My overall recommendation to anyone who seriously scrolling through these comments for actual feedback is to 1. reduce your screen-time, and 2.) if that's not an option go ahead and try blue light glasses. They're not a perfect solution they could help some screen-fatigue and sleep disruption issues.
can you just adjust the light / brightness on ur screen to a lower settings
is that the same
@@namename3139 no.
@@StebanHern Why? LCD screen have electricaly regulated light transmission elements - you can simply reduce blue component of backlight - it so simply and cheap!
Just to be able to detect the blue light screens emit, the devise has to be in a completely dark room, because just regular light bulbs emit more blue light than any screen, and neither come any where near the Sun. If blue light glasses help it's just placebo, to some that is enough.
wow no one asked
I have found blue light glasses helped to stop my eyes getting sore when spending time on my laptop. I’m also getting less migraines! Thanks for your great videos Dr Allen.
Been experiencing eye pain A LOT recently, and I spend all day every day in front of a screen. Going to give blue light glasses a try! Thanks for another great video!
If you haven’t had an eye exam lately, I’d suggest that. It turns out I have to get bifocals or progressive lenses & I think once I order most of my headaches will go away. I’m not even old enough to need bifocals yet ffs. I’m really not happy about it obviously; thank God I do have access to eye care & glasses though.
did they work?
I used the blue light blocking glasses for years and still got migraines. Once I managed to talk my old office into taking the lights out of the fixtures over my desk the migraines lessened by more than 50% a week. Fluorescent & LED light give me way more headaches than my monitors do.
Yes !
Here's a video special of how CBC Marketplace exposes the blue light glasses scam:
ua-cam.com/video/NkJY9bgLyBE/v-deo.html
what lights are best?
@@sunny-nq3yi it all depends on the person. Regular incandescent bulbs are pretty much the only ones that don't give me a headache. Most people I know aren't bothered by LED or fluorescent though.
wow, yeah i also feel like LED lights are so bright that sometimes it's off putting and i wonder if that can cause ppl to have migraine related headaches. it's ironic bc the lights are usually put in place to help see better but sometimes theyre too bright idk
@@Rebecca-asdf It's the brightness for some, the frequency (Hz) fluctuation rate (I honestly thing this is the main reason that will set off a migraine in people), the environment, so many factors and everyone is different. For me I found that the brilliant white 60w LED bulbs don't cause me insane migraines like whatever offices use. Had to trial and error it because the fixture in my apartment's computer room ONLY takes LED lights and the walls are an obscene dark cream colour unfortunately (combo of reasons I was getting migraines even at home).

Beautiful DP 😅
Which place is it?
Once I got prescription glasses for astigmatism most of my computer eyestrain went away. I had thought it was CVS so along, and tried different types of blue light filters; turns out it was best to get my eyes checked rather than try to fix the problem on my own with cheap fixes.
If i could give 1000 points to this I would!
Great discussion. I have the blue block tint in my eyeglasses for many years now and was introduced to it when I moved to Taiwan. I notice that there is a general “warming” of whites (less blue and more red tones). This tint may slightly distort the color temperature perception of users that are adjusting digital photograph white balance.
Block blocker are to substitute for prescription glasses. I wear prescription glasses and they can have the blue blocker added if use a computer a lot..
My bad a typo-Blue blockers are no substitute for prescription glasses. I wear prescription glasses and they can have the blue blocker added if needed.
LG added "eye comfort mode" to their TVs last year. I bought a new one in January of 20. Just checked and switched over to this mode. It makes a big difference. I have some blue glasses at home and at work. I'll be using the ones at work for my computer use as well.
Yeah most TVs and phones have this feature (which is nice) if you have Windows you can use Night Light, and if you have a Samsung you can use Eye Comfort shield and if you have a typical Android you can use Night Light and if you have an iPhone/Mac/iPad/etc you can use Night Shift

I have them, I noticed a massive difference especially with eye strain, I stream so I stare at the screen for a long time + bright lights in my face for hours.
The only benefit i really got from blue light glasses is that i now can go to sleep much easier like i literally could spent 1-2 hours just trying to sleep but with anti blue light glasses i barely spend 10-15 mins to sleep which is really making my mood better and less headaches ofc
As a dispensing optician, I frequently get asked about blue light glasses (a patient asked me about them earlier today as it happens). It’s quite a hard product to justify sometimes as so much of the data is merely anecdotal. The advice I generally give is the same as in this video - that it can help some people therapeutically but some people really don’t notice the difference. Conversations about reducing screen time (especially for kids) is becoming an increasingly difficult topic - be great to see a vid with your take on this! Dan
I'm straight forward as well. I tend to ask if they consider themselves light sensitive. If yes. Get the blue light filter. If no, you may not notice a difference. I do get headaches without mine. But people who weren't getting headaches before probably be the same after.
I watched this video wearing a new pair of blue light glasses, I was getting headaches after just a little while of computer use and they seem to be making a difference. I have had them less then a week, so far and no headaches

The glasses are a great option for graphic designers like me. For us, it's not an option to have some software alter the colors on the screen. So I got myself a pair of premium blue light blocking glasses today which reduce the color alteration to a not noticable level. Have them on for about 4 hours now and already recognize a difference. They also have an anti glare coating which at least feels like it makes stuff on the screen appear a little bit sharper too.
Hey. Where did you get your pair from?
Thanks for sharing. Where did you get your pair from?
why is it not an option to alter the colors in software but it is an option to alter the colors with your glasses? both are altering color in a way that does not translate to the final product, so they are equally detrimental to your work.
3 years later man, and you still haven't told us.
Sorry guys. They're from "Lumes".
Good video Dr Allen. I don't know much about the filters on cell phones but my understanding is that the blue-blocking spectacle lenses only cut about 30% of the intensity. Given that the amount of blue light emitted by electronics is 50 to 100 times less than of outdoor sunlight, I am skeptical that the blue-blocker tints do much. I do treat a lot of digital eyestrain patients and first advise good nearpoint habits, ergonomics, supportive lens prescriptions, and anti-glare coatings helpful. If they were not marketed as 'computer' glasses nobody would be interested I think. I would say the excessive focusing and narrowed visual awareness involved with electronics is much more of a threat to vision than is the minimal amount of blue light they now emit.
Your last line opened my eyes 👁

I’m an optician in Oklahoma and I have anti-blue light lenses now, also mind you, I’m almost -6 power overall with a lot of astigmatism. My anti blue light glasses and worked AMAZING FOR ME. One thing I noticed is my eye strain or eye fatigue is greatly reduced and the tint almost feels like it soothes my eyes.
Whered you get your lens/franes?
Thank you for the video Dr. I found this video extremely helpful and you explain everything so well.
I have an office job and really can’t avoid the prolonged screen-staring. So when my eyes get noticeably tired I pop the glasses on and they really do help. I think partly placebo effect, but there’s definitely something to it. They help me for sure.
“Marketing hype”? Dude I just learned about the existence of these glasses less than an hour ago😩
I watch another youtube vid about bluelight filter that it is bad. Idk what's right anymore. I'm confused.
I have had really bad migraines with auras and the only thing that has made them almost go away entirely is blue light glasses. they saved me really as someone who is infront of a screen for about 16 hours a day this was a huge deal for me
its hard to find gradings though, but i started with gunnars 65% amber lenses and now use a 30 % lenses in the evening with an even lower one from my optometrist during the day.
I appreciate the non bias information, I've been considering getting blue light glasses for zoom university lol
Great info! I was offered to try these blue light glasses a few weeks back when I was shopping for frames. They're a bit pricey.
What brand were they?
I use both Essilor crizal prevencia and Hoya. Both are good
It's been 3 months since you posted this comment, but hey.. maybe I can still help if you didn't get them still! I ordered my pair a few weeks ago on a website and received them today. They offer a wide range of options and frames so there's something for everyone and the prices are really good! If you enter your email address, just wait a bit and you will receive good offers from them quite often. I got 55% discount and decided to buy them. Total was 41$, although it's worth mentioning that I live in Croatia so the delivery fee might me slightly less if you are closer to them.
I don't think I can post a link for the website here so if you'd like the link, feel free to send me a private message! :)
I sell and use blue light glasses. I have sensitive eyes and I like them in bright rooms and when I’m in the computer. Some People do not like them if they edit photos or they are artists because it makes colours look yellow. Kind of like photochromic lenses some love them and some hate them.
Absolutely. I personally love photochromics and I still discuss blue blocking for people who spend a lot of time on digital devices.
I can definitely sleep well when I wore blue light glasses during night... difference is quite noticeable!!
As a lifelong insomniac I can wear my amber full coverage safety glasses before bed or all day or just on the computer and I still don't sleep any better..but I did notice a couple of times that mild to moderate migraines completely disappeared while I was wearing the amber glasses and I'd never heard of that benefit before...
I've been really struggling with eye strain, pain in the back of my eyes and blurred vision lately. My guess is looking at screens too much due to being in isolation. I have ordered some Gunnar glasses for my computer screen as I am unable to see an optician as they aren't running properly. I hope they work out thanks for the tips and help
Did they actually work?
@@salmaalsagheer6693 I've been meaning to wait a week or so to come back but they absolutely work. I can stay on my PC for hours with no issue what so ever. If anyone is struggling during the isolation and have the money please give them a go they will help. (Making sure you still have frequent breaks obviously.)
Harry James can you give an update on if it helps?
@@ohlordhecomin506 sure thing! It really does make a huge difference. If you are spending a lot of time looking at screens especially during the lock down period. Consider buying a pair because they really help that strain on your eyes. Do yourself the favour
@@harrisonjames2788 thanks!
I look at a computer about 7 hrs/day. I used to have major discomfort, blurry vision, eye strain, headaches, insomnia, dry eyes, red eyes, and tired eyes. My eyes were literally more tired than my mind and body after work.
To put it simply, I was miserable.
After using blue light glasses, the difference was like night and day. It was miraculous. The best 20 bucks I ever spent.
I appreciate your talking about validity of studies.. I think it's more popular to wear these as a trend right now. Good content. Thanks!
I appreciate that! Thank you. Even in the past few years there have been some studies making large and outrageous claims...but if you read the study you find the study was designed poorly and really doesn't come to any true conclusions.
I changed my Firefox background to be black, letters white and that helped a lot. I took a "few minutes" to get used to it, but after a while, it's really nice.
