Who was Ellen G. White, and why do millions consider her writings of special value and significance?
There are many books available for purchase online about the Life and Work of Ellen G. White.
In brief, she was a woman of remarkable spiritual gifts who lived most of her life during the nineteenth century (1827-1915), yet through her writings she is still making a revolutionary impact on millions of people around the world. During her lifetime she wrote more than 5,000 periodical articles and 40 books; but today, including compilations from her 50,000 pages of manuscript, more than 100 titles are available in English. She is the most translated woman writer in the entire history of literature, and the most translated American author of either gender. Her writings cover a broad range of subjects, including religion, education, social relationships, evangelism, prophecy, publishing, nutrition, and management. Her life-changing masterpiece on successful Christian living, Steps to Christ, has been published in more than 140 languages. Seventh-day Adventists believe that Mrs. White was more than a gifted writer; they believe she was appointed by God as a special messenger to draw the world's attention to the Holy Scriptures and help prepare people for Christ's second advent. From the time she was 17 years old until she died 70 years later, God gave her approximately 2,000 visions and dreams. The visions varied in length from less than a minute to nearly four hours. The knowledge and counsel received through these revelations she wrote out to be shared with others. Thus her special writings are accepted by Seventh-day Adventists as inspired, and their exceptional quality is recognized even by casual readers. As stated in Seventh-day Adventists Believe . . . , “The writings of Ellen White are not a substitute for Scripture. They cannot be placed on the same level. The Holy Scriptures stand alone, the unique standard by which her and all other writings must be judged and to which they must be subject” (Seventh-day Adventists Believe . . . ,Ministerial Association, General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, Washington D.C., 1988, p. 227). Yet, as Ellen White herself noted, “The fact that God has revealed His will to men through His Word, has not rendered needless the continued presence and guiding of the Holy Spirit. On the contrary, the Spirit was promised by our Saviour to open the Word to His servants, to illuminate and apply its teachings” (The Great Controversy, p. vii). The following is a more detailed account of the life and work of this remarkable woman who, meeting all the tests of a true prophet as set forth in the Holy Scriptures, helped found the Seventh-day Adventist church.
I am not an Adventist, but I do know and truly believe that woman was a true prophet, God uses her to spread his word, and he did it through visions may God be praise

All I have ever asked of her critics and anyone else, is to read probably one of the smallest books she wrote- it's called STEPS TO CHRIST. It's so small it can be read in a few hours and then people can make informed criticism or enhance their faith. That book changed my life, and made me want to read pretty much everything she wrote. I haven't even gone halfway through all her writings but I will confess that there is no way a simple human can pen such inspirational material just by themselves, from nowhere. You miss out on this material at your own peril. Ellen white is NOT Jesus, but a great representative of HIS. Read her material and contrast with your biblical knowledge and vice versa, and you will discover there is no conflict/contrast, whatsoever.

@@garyjackson8477 Someone on UA-cam didn't understand why Adventist churches today don't speak of Ellen White or mentioned her on their websites. It may be due to embarrassment because she had false doctrines/heresies. It has been alleged that some SDA pastors don't believe all that she said, and won't inform their church members about it.
Her main teachings are NOT found in the New Testament, and Jesus never mentioned them, including the fact that there is no command of Christ to keep the sabbath day in the New Testament.
Ellen White is like a popess to them because, like the pope, she seems to be infallible as it were. She invented heresies, and her followers swallow the extra biblical revelations that aren't mentioned by the Lord or the New Testament. It's like Jesus and his word aren't enough for these people, they accept something else that's ADDED that seemingly makes them feel special. It surely is a delusion because they're like zealous pharisees fetishizing the sabbath day like it's some kind of ticket to heaven.

The Lord revealed the truth to me about the seventh day Sabbath before I ever heard about Sister Ellen White. Then I read "The Great Controversy" and 2nd to God's Word it is one of my favorite books.

Ellen White's COUNSELS ON DIET AND FOODS 🍲 had simply manifested consistency on the suggested Biblical diet. In 1986 I was 16 years(was not a SDA-did not even knew there was a GOD)someone shared The desire of ages/messages to young people/patriarchs and prophets-I read them and came to the conclusion that what Ellen white wrote had to be inspired/had to be messages from GOD to us sinners.
I knew and accepted JESUS Christ through her books which lead me to the book of BOOKS -the BIBLE.
Since then I do believe that because I gave my life to JESUS from a early young age-JESUS has rewarded me greatly/through his Angels GOD has saved me from death in this life many times.
Since I decided to follow the health counsels from GOD-now at my age(45) GOD has honored me-I have none of the disease that are killing people in our times(heart disease/high blood pressure/diabetes/obesity etc)

C 19 Just baptized on may 16th. My wife who was studying with SDA did it too. I never have been into a SDA church before may 14th. But the words that the pastor gave that night spoke to me. I was an Atheist but I was called I can say. I don't know if anyone would understand or believe me but I felt that I had to do it. I found peace and tranquility I was looking for a long time.

I'm a seventh day Adventist and It may be hard for you guys to believe but im telling you...shes a prophet of God. And she really did have a vision. Her visions are REAL!! It came right from scriptures. How could she be a false prophet if she points right from the bible? she is not delusional or a liar!! God give her a gift of prophecy. It is amazing how much effort satan ans his followers make, to discredit this wonderful and wise Prophet of the 19th century...her advise on health, education and everything is very modern even in our century, everything she writes about is perfectely in accordance with the WORD of GOD. No doubt at all that she was enlightened by GOD and she dedicated her life to work for God, opening schools and hospitals, to educate and save souls to our Lord Jesus Christ.
I'm afraid you're completely wrong Maria, and if you have the patience I will gladly show you why. To start with, let's talk about how false teachings such as those taught by Adventists can seem "biblical" when in actual fact they directly contradict scripture. One thing that makes this possible is when you take an argument that is "based on scripture" and use it to nullify something that scripture explicitly says. This should NEVER be done, especially when it concerns core doctrines! Another thing that makes it possible is by going "beyond what is written" or adding someting to the text that might seem perfectly reasonable from a human point of view, but isn't actually there. Scripture is complete. No one should ever feel the need to add to it in order to defend one's doctrine.
Let me give you a couple of examples of clear scriptures that are nullified by arguments that are merely extrapolated from the biblical text. This is what scripture EXPLICITLY says:
"Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes." (Romans 10:4)
"But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law." (Galatians 5:18)
"For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God." (Galatians 2:19)
Adventists circumvent these scriptures by using arguments, such as "since the 10 commandments were written on stone and placed within the Ark of the Covenant then that teaches us that they are 'permanent' commands".
Is that what scripture says? No, nowhere does scripture say anything like that at all! It assumes that God somehow forgot to put it in scripture and therefore someone else is required to explain the "truth".
What the Bible actually says about the permenance of the old covenant "engraved in stone" is that is was "fading", being replaced by a conventant that "lasts":
"Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, fading though it was, will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious? If the ministry that condemns men is glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness! For what was glorious has no glory now in comparison with the surpassing glory. And if what was fading away came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which lasts!" (2 Cor 3:7-11)
Now that might tempt you to bring up Matt 5:17 which teaches us that the law was not being abolished, or that not a jot or tittle would disappear from the law, but that is more a problem for Adventists who quite falsely claim that there is some kind of separation between moral and ceremonial laws, which is another thing that they add to scripture.
The fact of the matter is that you cannot just rip out part of the OT laws and throw them into the new covenant unless there is a specific verse that teaches us that they still apply. For example, scripture EXPLICITLY teaches us that we are to obey the Law of Christ - to believe in the son of God and to love each other. That is the law for Christians.
Another thing that scripture EXPLICITLY says is that the sabbath was only a shadow, the reality being in Christ. How do Adventists get around this? Once again they are forced to add to scripture saying, without the slightest scriptural support, that the verse in question is only talking about an annual sabbath! Why add to scripture? Why wouldn't the Holy Spirit inspire Paul to include the word annual.
I can show you what the reality is, if you want. It is written in scripture, but not many people seem to realize it.
Now I challenge you, or any other Adventist (which I have done for a while now) to defend the teachings of this church without going beyond what is written. So far, no one has succeded, and the fact that it cannot be done should raise a gigantic red flas for you!
Seems like you have dedicated all your life to proof SDAs wrong. As smart as you sound, you need a Bible study yourself. You make your own interpretations. Remember The Bible interprets itself! You are right, God's love summed up in love: Mat 22:37-40; love God with all your heart that is the first 4 commandments, and love your neighbor, that is the second part of the commandments,mwhich isnno: t-10. This tells you how to love God and others...do the 10 comm and you are not under the law. If you don't do, then you are condemned under the law! The law is there to make you free if you choose not to disobey it! So I'm doing all 10 comm to show my love to God and others...how could it be a shadow? common sense, if 10 comm is done away with, it is okay to lie, steal and kill your neighbors......right???
Ella Eryanthy Ella, has it ever dawned on you that you just might be wrong? That you just might have been missled? That the teaching you subscribe to just might itself be a deception, rather than those opposed to it? The Bible not only warns us about being deceived, it points out things that could be, not necessarily are, but could be, the source of doctrinal error. The old testament was a message that Paul distinguishes as being "spoken by angels" as opposed to the words of the very Son of God. Adventists seemed to think that during the 1800's it was time to go back to the testimony of angels, despite the fact that Paul explicitly warned us about following the testimony of angels. He also warned about women teaching, just as he warned about infiltration of the church by false brothers. He also taught us as about adhering to fine-sounding arguments in preference to sound doctrine.
Adventism is guilty of ignoring all of these warnings.
Now you assume that I have "dedicated all my life to proving SDAs wrong". You have absolutely NO idea how wrong you could be. You simply assume, based on your prejudices. In actual fact I only started looking into this issue somewhere around the start of November last year. But you are free to believe what you want. Just bear in mind that your words, and my words will be taken into account and use to testify against us. I know what I have done and am not ashamed of the gospel.
Now you say, completely void of ANY scriptural support that if we do the 10 commandments then we are not under the law. What the Bible says in contrast to this is that if we are led by the Spirit then we are not under the law. You of course can cliam that these two things are equivalent, but that makes it your opinion, and nothing else.
You are also guilty of distoring the truth. You say that "if 10 comm is done away with, it is okay to lie, steal and kill your neighbors......right???". WRONG!!! The fact that we are not under the Mosaic law can NEVER be used to make the totally unscriptural claim that it is OK to lie, steal, kill and so on. Why? Because we are not "lawless" as you have been deceived to believe, but are under the Law of Christ and to follow the Spirit! If the Spirit led us to do these things then you would have a point.
Futhermore, saying something like that would be like saying that if someone falsely accused of child molestation and who had to wear a monitoring device around his ankle would start molesting children as soon the device was removed! Someone who is NOT a child molester does not need to be restrained by laws that were compiled to supervise child molesters! Read 1 Timothy 1:9 and perhaps you will understand these issues, instead of drawing conclusion fed to you by your Adventist teachers. We are free from the mosaic law because we have been born again.

Yes, it dawned on my while I was a Sabbath keeper and I realized I was in a cult. I dawned on me that I had wasted my time and my life in a cult. It then dawned on me, that I should repent of spreading false Judaizing gospel and preach Christ, not Moses as the Adventist do.
FROM THERE, I repented with my whole heart and found grace and truth in Christ, not in the legalism. It dawned on me, I should never boast about how great I am, or ever brag or even make the claim that I kept the 10 commandments! It dawned on me how deceived I was to ever say make any claim of righteousness, except in Christ, by his grace and Mercy.

They can be found in 216 out of the 237 countries and areas of the world recognized by the United Nations, and operate 148,023 congregations, 173 hospitals, 2,164 secondary and tertiary schools, 21 food industries, 15 media centers, and 63 publishing houses.
From 1844 to 2015 we have grown to 18,000,000 members world wide and growing faster than any other church.
At the first General Conference session in 1863 in Battle Creek, Michigan, 20 delegates representing six local conferences were in attendance. At that time we had a membership of 3,500 in 125 churches, with 22 ordained ministers and eight licensed ministers.
In contrast, the 60th General Conference session, in 2015, has 2,571 official delegates in attendance. They represent 18,479,257 Seventh-day Adventists from every continent. How could a only 3rd grade educated woman know this much, explain prophecies high level and writes 24 books, unless inspired by the Divine Power? She was, indeed, prophetess of God with end-time messages, like Elijah and John the Baptist were in their times.

God can use the unlearned to confound the wise.. She had only an elementary education and wrote many inspiring and corrective writings to point to Jesus Christ and the Bible. And yet like many of those who have done God's special work - end up very hated and only appreciated by so few. Her health knowledge was far beyond the doctors of her time. And she was instrumental in establishing hospitals in the U S and abroad. God uses people such as her to validate His Word as found in the Bible. All other religions have their founders....go and criticize them too...It's amazing how much is produced against her rather than for good she has done for the world as shown in this video! When someone is so despised , there must be something so very special about them.
Hi Eric, I don't think many people who criticize the doctrines of EGW do so on the grounds that she was "unlearned", but for other reasons. I have challenged adventists, both "unlearned" and others who are very well versed in scripture, such as Victor Hulbert, to defend this theology by abiding to some very basic rules. For example, I claim that for a doctrine to be considered "biblical", it is not enough to just salt it with long strings of verses from the Bible. That proves nothing. What a biblical doctrine would need to do is:
1. Not contradict or break scripture in any way whatsoever.
2. Not add or subtract anything from scripture.
3. Not go beyond what is written.
4. Harmonize completely with everything written in scripture, and
5. Not allow human reasoning, or "fine-sounding arguments", to nullify scripture.

Paul Brennan I do not know this Victor Hulbert, but there are countless other SDA who can satisfy your entirely valid measures of biblical congruency with SDA beliefs. If SDA doctrine is anything, it is consistent with the entire arch of scriptural teaching, unlike most other Christian denominations who still cling to some of the pagan teaching borrowed by the apostatizing church of the early to middle ages.

I'm afraid that's just not true Patrick. There are many verses in the NT that show that the Mosaic covenant no longer applies to Christians just as there are many verses that show that the 10 commandments specifically belonged to that covenant.
So please, if you think SDA theology conforms to the rules I mentioned above, show me. with scripture. how it's theology is consistant with the above. Your idea that there are "countless" SDAs who can meet that challenge is built on deception. There are none. I have spent over three years trying to find even one, but have not.

We simply don't agree with your reading of the NT when you assert that the law of God passed away along with the ceremonial laws that were a "shadow" of the reality, Jesus Christ. It's a big discussion, not appropriate to this venue. Suffice it to say that IMO, and in the opinion of many scholars both SDA and non SDA, the principles given in the ten commandment law are as enduring as eternity. Of course you disagree. That's okay.

I am a better writer than Ellen White. I write about what I can logically derive from Scripture. My insights into the laodicean eye salve, the raiment of Revelation 3:18, and the original definition of faith in the Hebrew Language is vital to all believers today. But I do make mistakes. I do not perfectly word everything. I believe God is leading me but I do not claim to be the final Elijah. Much of what came out of the Millerite movement is good doctrine, the sabbath, the sanctuary, it all aligns with scripture, until one tries to prove Ellen White is the final Elijah, then it brings everything else into disrepute. If God grant me live long enough, I will put the message of William Miller back into the hands of caring Baptists and Methodists et al. AMEN.

Before speaking ill of her try and read one of her books. She has never from what I have read from her added to or taken away from the word of Jehovah. She is to lead us back to the commandments of God not away from them. I am a new Adventist 3.5 years now. I never had an Adventist teach me anything. I didn't even know who the Adventist were until I started keeping the Bible and knowing the commandments of God. Until I opened the word of God myself and I say how much I was transgressing the Laws of God I knew not Ellen or the Adventist. God's word speaks for its self.. My teaching came from the bible, not Ellen. May God bless and keep you on this Holy Sabbath Day.

Moongold7 - I 100% agree with you. As a 4th generation SDA I have become sad to see the GC become so obstinate against God's word. I also watch Saved to Serve, I discovered them in late 2014 to early 2015. They have become a blessing since there is no local SDA church that is keeping in line with the bible. I hate to see people judge us according to the GC's churches and then turn away from truth. I like to find fellow SDA's that are like me.

Ellen G. White claimed she saw in vision the Father rise from his throne and in a flaming chariot entered the holiest of holies behind the veil and sat down. How can this be when God and his throne IS the holiest of holies? Ellen White also wrote (in Early Writings) that man amalgamated with beast as can be seen in the endless variety of species of animals and in some races of men. There is no doubt in my mind that Ellen White loved the Lord, but young Ellen was left hospitalized in a coma for three weeks which may have caused her to suffer for some kind of delusion of which little was known at the time.

God created seven days. To say that God created a day in which it is unacceptable, or a sin, to come together to worship Him is an grievous error. Sabbath means rest, not seven. The first Christians came together on the First day of the week [Sunday]. On the seventh day, God rested; not because He was tired or needed a rest, but to set a pattern for us- six days of work/one day of rest. Jesus said: "Man was not made for the Sabbath, the Sabbath[REST] was made for man". some occupations require work on the Sabbath- police, firemen, doctors, nurses, soldiers, etc...God never forbade this. Artist Elfred Lee - "I met Rabbi Joe Kagan at Weimar Institute in CA. His family had come from Eastern Europe where his aunt had been raped while a priest stood over her with a crucifix saying, "This is what you get for killing Christ." So you can imagine the feeling of many Jews towards Christianity. American Christians are not at all like Europeans.
His family moved to the US while he was young. At age 13 he debuted at Carnegie Hall as a cantor. He had a beautiful, tenor voice. He received a very high education and became a rabbi. I met him in his later years in 1978 after he had been on Ronald Reagan's staff in Sacramento as their research man. If there were any questions about any subject, he was the one that did the research and found the answers.
He had a very negative attitude towards Christianity. He would never touch the New Testament. However, he knew the Jewish Old Testament (Torah) extremely well as a highly educated rabbi would. One day he got hold of a book called "Patriarchs and Prophets" by Ellen G. White. He read it with astonishment and wanted to know who this Ellen White was. That is when I met him. He was asking who is this Ellen G. White, and what university did she attend. We told him she only had a 3rd grade education. "Then, where did she learn Hebrew?" he asked. We told him that she never knew Hebrew, but was the most prolific female writer in history and that this was only one of her books.
He was amazed at her knowledge, saying that the information in this book (Patriarchs and Prophets) is Mishnaic. The Mishnah is part of the Hebrew scholarship. He said the Mishnah had only been translated into English 30 years ago and that only high-level rabbis knew this information. This is the history of my people and it is very, very accurate. He also said that you have to know Hebrew to be able to write like this because her sentence structure is not English, it's Hebrew...The rhythm, the meter, the arrangement of words and expressions are not English. He said it's as if she wrote in Hebrew and it was translated into English.
My family and I developed a strong friendship with Joe, his wife and son. As we studied the Bible and some Ellen White books together one day, he said, "I am convinced that Ellen White was inspired by the same source that inspired the Hebrew prophets. I want to become a Christian. I accept Jesus Christ as my Messiah." Now, he would not have come to Christ through reading the Bible. Even though the Hebrew Bible is full of prophecies pointing to the Messiah, it took Ellen White's writings to prove to him that Jesus Christ was the fulfilment of all the Hebrew prophecies. And only then did he pick up the New Testament and read about his Jewish Messiah.
Many times I saw him cry. I was in the middle of a painting commission for a large mural called "Christ the Way of Life" for the world headquarters of the Seventh Day Adventist church in Washington DC. He became very involved with that painting. The painting had originally been inspired by James and Ellen White who had commissioned an engraver to do a black and white drawing of the subject. He confirmed to me that Ellen White's concept was very accurate on the whole plan of salvation in both the Old and New Testament, but that the engraver had misrepresented her concepts. So he helped me in many details to make the painting historically and theologically accurate; especially regarding the sanctuary section, the Hebrew writing on the cross and the last supper scene. He told me to paint Jesus and his disciples at an oriental style table, sitting on mats on the floor - not Roman couches as the medieval artists painted. Further, he said their heads would be covered and he made sure I painted the wine, the unleavened bread and the bitter herbs and their symbolism exactly as they would have been.
He approved of the whole painting and we had an unveiling ceremony at the Auburn SDA Church in late 1979. He had written a song to go with the painting and sat at the organ as we unveiled the painting. He wept as he sang the words of Jesus on the cross quoting Isaiah, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" He sang and sang and wept and wept, his whole body shaking. There was not a dry eye in the whole church. His voice was so beautiful.
The original painting hangs in the new SDA world headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland where they have posters and Bible studies of the painting. I could never have done it without the inspiration of Rabbi Kagan and Ellen White. I wish they were still alive!
We were at his secret baptism in the Bear River above Sacramento on Saturday night Dec. 22, 1979. There were four of us present. He could not even tell his wife and son that he was now a Christian. As he came up out of the cold water praising God and singing to his new Messiah, he said, "I am now a completed Jew. I have now accepted the Old and New Testament and the Messiah that all Jewish prophets told us about!"
I was recently in Europe giving some workshops on art and some of my archaeological work in the Middle East. I happened to meet a Jewish family from Israel. Shalom David was originally from Iraq and his wife from Chile.
They were now attending a college in Europe where I met with quite a bit of opposition to the writings of Ellen White. This Jewish family invited me to their home for Shabbat (Friday night supper.) It was a most enjoyable occasion as his wife and beautiful children sang and celebrated the arrival of Sabbath as Jews have done for thousands of years. I told them the story of Rabbi Kagan and he got very excited. He said, "The same thing happened to me! I would have rather burned the Bible then touch it! I wanted nothing to do with Christianity, but I also read the writings of Ellen White and the Spirit of God was on that woman. Her writings are as if she wrote in Hebrew.
You can definitely hear the Hebrew rhythm, meter and expressions in her books. I also believe she was inspired by the same source as the Hebrew prophets. And she has helped me fall in love with Jesus Christ, my Messiah."
I just met yesterday with a rabbi living here in California - Rabbi Ben. It was a follow up to a Sabbath meal I was invited to this last Sabbath with him and a group of Adventists. He went through the whole ceremony at the meal just like Rabbi Kagan and as my new friend (Shalom David) in Europe had. So yesterday we were talking over Hebrew ceremonies and how they are still effective in healing disease.
Rabbi Ben told me that he has also had the same experience. He hated the Bible but that Ellen White brought him to Christ and helped him read the New Testament and fall in love with the Messiah. He also told me that he had gone to visit one of the most influential rabbis in America who is in his 90s who must remain unnamed. While in this rabbi's library talking, he was scanning the many, many books on his walls and there he saw the book "Patriarchs and Prophets" by Ellen White. Rabbi Ben asked him about it and where he had gotten it, "Why do you have this book by a Christian author?" The rabbi said, "This as a very authoritative source on our history."

This woman has lead the SDA church to believe that it's okay for women in their congregation to become PASTORS. EGW goes against the Word of God.
The documentary was very good about Ellen White's life, however the very last thing by 3ABN showing their version of the woman supposed to appear with the crown of 12 stars and the red dragon was ridiculous . Seriously, she did not have any stars above her head at all, did not look pregnant, and they used a guy with a star wars mask to represent the dragon. Come on, you can do better than some guy with a star wars mask, please!

For nearly 30 years I was certain Ellen White was all she claimed to
be... Until I seen from the scripture what the fruit of the gospel
really is. It is helping the poor get back up and running. As the Holy
Spirit of truth rewarded my careful, diligent study over a period of
about 30 years, I began seeing the deeper message of the bible. The
questions, which I had summarily dismissed, that others had asked about
Ellen White, I could no longer so easily ignore. All I ask of any
serious minded person is to give the other side a fair and impartial
hearing. And I am not talking about the lawless gospelers (they are easy
to discredit)
Start with the claim that William Foy died soon after he rejected the
mission that fell to Ellen. There is a picture of William Foy's grave,
on my fb page, and it shows that he did not die soon after rejecting the
mission. It certainly appears as a lie intended to bolster Ellen's
image as the greater Moses (the final Elijah) At first I blamed
Loughborough alone, who wrote the bogus history but as I dug into
Ellen's letters regarding the fiasco, it became clear she was involved
in the deception. At this point I new I could no longer just accept the
churches version. I had to be fair and do a complete investigation. That
inspired me to look at the truth about Hazen Foss. The claim that the
mission of being the last days "Messenger" was rejected by Foss, while
not as blatantly untrue as the case with Foy, was suspicious. 1st, the
claim was not made until after those who likely would have dissented had
mostly died off. I advise any seeker of truth to read the letter Ellen
White wrote to her sister regarding Mr. Foss. Just read it!

Well I will be answering your accusations from time to time. On the point about quinine you make on your site. You failed to point out that Qunine is in fact a poison. But if used correctly it may cure. But it can also kill. White spoke on proper usage.

The thing that made me stop JUST listening to the church and give both sides an impartial hearing was her response. She did not correct herself, she did not even offer her sincere sympathy. She told the bereft father that he should have done what he could! What he could? You tell everyone God has shown you everything from the creation to the flood to the crucifixion to the second coming. Then you tell everyone that what you write is from God and anyone who resists this idea that you are the great last days messenger is of the devil. Then you tell your followers that Quinine is a poison, when in fact it is a lifesaving medicine in cases of malaria. And when they accept that your writings are of God and anyone who challenges that is of the devil and they obey your command to avoid Quinine and their son dies as a result, you then blame them? WOW! I really am embarrassed that I was tricked for so long.

Lea Leandre I do agree with you about the fact that in Christ there is no difference. And Ellen White supported this. She gave money out of her pocket to the colored minister who was poor. But you have to understand that discrimination is not in the passage you quoted. To understand you have to know the time when this was written. It has to do with the problems which inevitably will arise from mixed marriages. Most of the people out there are racist and therefore is advisable not to enter into such a marriage.
valibucuresti People who love God and follow His leading are never more concerned about pleasing society than obeying God. Persecution is a promise for anyone who believes in God and decides to stand for truth. In Jesus' day and probably still today Jews and Samaritans had no communication. Yet Jesus challenged those discriminatory practices by bringing the good news to a Samaritan woman. He did not do it in the cover of darkness neither. He sat with that woman in the middle of the day when anyone could see him.
Encouraging people to conform with society's racist practices against a group of people is not what a prophet of God would do. The heroes of the bible are called such because they never succumbed to public pressure when it comes to truth and justice even at the cost of their own lives for example, Daniel, the 3 Hebrew boys, John the Baptists, Jesus, Paul and many of the prophets.

I understand your point about racism too. There are quite a few interracial couples in the world today. Can you honestly say that there are no more racist people in the world today? Can you anticipate anytime in the future of this sinful world (before Christ returns) when racism will not exist? Do you sincerely believe that discrimination against interracial couples has completely stopped in today's world? Problems and difficulties (in other words crosses) should not be a deterrent for obeying God. Mathew 16: 24 "Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me."
As Christians we should expect that the world will not like us and we should know why. Jesus said this it in John 15: 18, 19 "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.
If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you."
