Long text: I think it's worth mentioning again that the main problem with Triple Strike Titan Killer is not its lack of "damage" but the crazy opportunity cost from investing 2 major talents into a little more output, when that's not the problem. When Grub ran down Mura at 11:30, Titan Killer (empowered by Triple Strike) got good value, the highest it would ever get in the rest of the game: 30% more damage! [Avg. is 15-20%] Mura had block charges and Avatar, so TK did 776 damage in addition to the ~2600 physical. 30% more is good, right? It is. Does it win though? Would an attack speed increase with a permanent slow have led to 3 more attacks on Mura? I'm assuming yes. Then Titan Killer wasn't even better than Blades of a Templar even in the situation where it got the highest value while boosted by its (shitty) partner talent. Mura was dead either way even when picking shields. Protector of Aiur was scaled to 35% increased damage. AA7 added 40% to that after each ability. Triple Strike diminished that output by reducing W availability. Titan Killer does not scale with either increase. When you have a scaled quest, you want to stay alive to use it. When you die, your damage drops to zero and you can't ding anymore. Was spellshield extremely good here? No. But it doesn't have to be. It just has to reduce damage enough so you don't die to allow you to proc shields once more. Players underestimate the exponential value of shields. More shield means more time alive means more shield. That's harder to understand than a simple damage increase and equally as hard as understanding the diminishing returns of a talent that does not scale with any of your other AA talents. If Triple Strike Titan Killer does not immediately lead to burst kills, its only use is when you don't ever die anyway. It didn't lead to burst kills (duh) and you died. I don't take offense with your game, I just see people take this garbage everytime and not understand why they fail even though they have soh mutch daymash and they are not Grubby. Different take: Even level Artanis does 8.25% of Valla's health per attack. Protector 400 stacks scales that to 11.55%. Every ability adds 3.3% via Final Cut. Final Cut gets empowered when low health to 4.95%. Titan Killer is 0.5% or 1.5% extra (let's say 1% average). That's about the value you get from Final Cut's low HP bonus because you survive at low HP because shields. TL;DR: TSTK sucks and I will not get tired of telling people exactly how much it sucks because it looks bad on paper but it is even worse in practice. This combo is abysmal with Protector + Final Cut. You're a melee glass cannon. Just no. Good for maymay jokes but don't recommend it to the viewers.
@@onkelpappkov2666 This is very informative, thanks for the write up. I know the post is over a year old, but what is your recommended Artanis build (the whole thing)? Instead of Triple Strike and Titan Killer, do you just pick up the shield talents at those tiers (or Blades at 16)? Which shield talent do you take at T4?
Into Vikings, it's worth, if you assume you get kills. Every kill is 10 stacks. In some games, people attack 100 times but kill 15 heroes; every Murky or Baleog counts as 1 kill. So does DVa's mech. Protector can be okay, even good, but only with shields to allow Artanis to live and therefore attack.
Not very hard for me, all though i am just a QM player,. still i would only ever choose amateur opponent on maps like web weavers summons or Alteric pass with the knights boosters, as extra damage against those monsters is pretty nice, but even then i will usually go with the Aieur talent unless i can see that my team roster really lacks monster kill damage.
@@EternaltheGrey Train of thought though: Artanis dies to burst damage. If you can't burst, he gets more shields and if he lives longer, more time to heal him. If spellshield merely reduces the spell component enough to allow shield to proc again, it's done its job. You rarely ever die to sustain if around a healer. It's not about spell damage being the biggest fish and spellshield being OP (which it is if they are all spell), it's about surviving the burst they put on you when you are low. If all spell damage combined is merely 1000 damage, that's like 2 AAs longer. If that procs a shield, that's like 3 more AAs. If that leads to your allies exerting enough pressure, you getting away or you getting enough CDR, that's a binary result. Artanis is a bit like Garrosh in that regard. He's not quite linear. You either kill him fast or you don't kill him at all. And spellshield makes the case for the latter, even at low numbers.
Hey Grubby, since you are trying some more new games now, i wanna bring Cult of the Lamb to your attention. Its a lot of fun. Thx for the hots vids. Groetjes!
As a noob who barely plays this game, I've learned amateur is good in high elos or serious play? But I've always gone for big dick scaling passive cause you know, I figure more attack damage results in a boost against both camps and players. I always go a w build and it's shocking how much damage you can do later into the game. I one shot a Fenix (shield and all) with my W at 20 and it was hilarious. Love Chad scaling artanis
The inverse of what you said is also true. Protector of Aiur is insane in low elo. It scales with takedowns and the time people let you attack them for free, which is outright silly in Silver. I've played on Warhead where our Dva scaled the enemy Artanis to 600 stacks. Consider that Amateur Opponent is equal to a PvE only Protector of Aiur at 500 stacks from level 1. By picking Protector you trade early and mid game PvE for late-game PvP. This means you assume you have a reliable way to stack and that your team will get to late-game practically without you. In low elo, this is guaranteed. Butcher will get stacked, Zeratul will be level 20 and Artanis will get Protector scaled. The difference in higher elo is two-fold. People are aware of you so they will try not to allow you to stack and they also will close out games faster. And secondly, high elo is much more about PvE than ARAMing. Players at some point learn that if a camp pushes fort, that's value. If you open core by sending camps and waves, that's a fast win as soon as you get kills in a teamfight. This means they will likely see you don't have Ama and avoid skirmishes and push camps into you more. This doesn't mean Protector of Aiur is inherently bad. You can make it work. The problem is how much agency it gives to your opponents. Ama makes you decide the course of the game by pushing camps and winning objectives, plus INSANE siege value because it works vs structures. Protector gives them the decision to lose, which they will often do, but not always. Edit: Also, if you ever scale Protector to 500 stacks, yes, it makes Ama obsolete. But also, you have already won the game, why are you doing camps?
Yup u dont actually have to hit the minions. Just pick up the globes after they die. I hate it when i see teammates who fight a wave only to have 2 waves worth of globes in the same lane just in front of them, and they dont pick them up?!?
I think the plan was to just full commit to the team strength, which was team fighting, and not even really bother to try to compete with the enemy soak/push
i think you only lost due to your team's lack of focus. at their keep during boss and then again the last fight you went in on Valla, Diablo and Alarak kinda engaged, but the rest was back fighting a Hogger
Ok, be honest man - you stream hots less and less - everytime when I come to watch you, you are streaming dota, Bahamut just released "we will meet in the nexus" video... Is hots dead?

Always loved that talent; it's too bad it can be hard to justify over Amateur Opponent.
I pick this talent when we already have a good offlaner

The three-stun dodge was amazing!
Especially the first Q into valla 😎😎😎
Based gigachad uploading lost matches.
Gotta show the real experience!
You did well in team fights and got really good lane soak. well done
This was actually a well performed by you. I learn a few move from this video. Thank you! You are greatest video maker for hots community.
Such good artanis play, the camp invade with the muradin chase was chef's kiss, I can still learn a lot from you Grub
Remember when Grubby said Artanis sucked? I do haha
Sadly I remember too...

To bad trip strikes compete with spell armor. It’s just too good. But 3 strikes are so much fun with stacks.
Vs Mura/Hogger and AA valla as primary enemy damage makes Triple Strike harder to pass up.
@@EternaltheGrey true but even aa valla does alot of spell dmg
