It's highly amusing to read all the comments about this song being "depressing". I, for one, am pleased that The Cult have returned to their roots at least a little, rather than offering the hard rock hedonism of "Electric" again. I suspect that many criticising the song have no idea of the group's history, what they were when the started, the period of Death Cult / "Dreamtime" or Ian's previous band Southern Death Cult.
I love Dreamtime! Especially 83rd Dream and Spiritwalker. But their latest albums are the best ever IMHO. Ceremony and Sonic Temple are up there too. Hey, I love them all! 💕
I've only listened to the Cult during the Electric-Sonic Temple-Ceremony period, and agree that many of the lyrics were hedonist, it was great to find these songs full of content.
@@Nada-adaN Thank you for your comment! If you haven't done so already, please check out "Under the Midnight Sun", with its incomparable atmospheres and punctilious arrangements. In my opinion, it stands as the best LP from beginning to end since "Love" in 1985. Furthermore, it's great to see Ian and Billy finally acknowledging the brilliance of their early material. I saw them in their Death Cult iteration in November of last year, with a guest appearance by Jamie Stewart. Fantastic.
@@Albrecht777 I thank you for the info. I had been listening to songs from that album before this one. It has some great tracks, like KTBH, although I don't like the title. It's good too see that unlike other bands they not only moved forward, but have content which is something missing in rock bands. They have always been a great band from a musical perspective.
The guitars and strings on this blend well together. That opening riff is very dark...very ominous...it's the soundtrack to what's going on in our lives, the change and the upheaval...
This song really grabs you.. it pulls you in.. gets real close.. and tells you what you need to hear... haven't heard a tune from the Cult like this in years. Fuck ya.
Ian is obviously aware of the destruction the northern hemisphere has been causing to this planet for centuries. He is aware westerners are suicidal in longtime behavior.
Wasn't sure about this track at first but it is growing on me. I love that each track on this album is different and yet unmistakably has the Cult stamp on it. Love it! ❤
The last two albums have been their best since Sonic Temple, for sure, and I can't wait to hear what they do next. It feels like Choice of Weapon and Hidden City are building to something!
I agree with your assessment of the most recent albums, and that "something" is now here. In my opinion, "Under the Midnight Sun" is the best record that The Cult have released since "Love". Stylistically diverse, moving and intelligent. If you haven't heard it yet, I recommend a listen.
@@Albrecht777 You're absolutely right. I pre-ordered UTMS and purposely didn't listen to any pre-release stuff other than "Give Me Mercy". It's absolutely in my top three, beating out Dreamtime and just nudging ahead of Sonic Temple. Love will always be my favourite.
Yes I am a fan...and I am also a guitarist..that's why I can say its flanged Matchless sound is unique...ah...you forgot Jimi Hendrix Jimi Page Slash..ok you are right: Billy is not the #1 :-)
@simone seth isn't it highly subjective? As well as relative? It's most probable that the greatest guitarists of all-time no one has ever heard of because they're shy or too many bong hits who knows? My point is that the cult is by far the most underrated band considering they could be one of the greatest rock n roll bands of all-time. Billy is number one in my book. Fuck Jimmy Paige. I'd rather listen to WILD FLOWER than STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN everyday of the week and twice on Sunday's. After all my book is all that matters to me.
Gave this and 'hinterland' a couple listens. Hard sell. I'm a love removal mach. guy but you freaks got me again 25 ANOS later. Lovin you in Seattle. Did you find my jacket I lost on floor of concert 1990 or whatever
[Back at the days, same people blamed Beatles for doing things like "I Want You", "Lucy in the Sky", "Strawberry Fields", "Dear Prudence" in spite of their early romantic-happy-juvenile-party songs]
I see you guys are really going Balls Out on all your latest videos these Days, used a few National Geographic clips for this one. You Guys can't be that broke, Can You?
This song is alright. I just hope that hidden city will be a better album than choice of weapon and born into this. Those two albums are plagued with forgettable songs.
musically cultish . . . philosophically weird; deeply ordered chaos . . . I almost hoped for some kind of science, then it goes into Syria politics. This one gets a whatever from me.I don't claim to know/understand whatevers going on in Syria.
Couldn't help but love this.

Still big fan of CULT, from 90's to 2019!
Try the 80s if you like the 90's.
Get fresh Cult; 'Under the Midnight Sun' just out.
Started listening to them in 1989..
This song really grabs you.. it pulls you in.. gets real close.. and tells you what you need to hear... haven't heard a tune from the Cult like this in years. Fuck ya.
It reminds me “I’m a European”
Ian is obviously aware of what is going on man. Good lyrics and great feel to accompany them.
Ian is obviously aware of the destruction the northern hemisphere has been causing to this planet for centuries. He is aware westerners are suicidal in longtime behavior.
Yes.
Magnetic field inversion.
Still big fan of CULT, from 90's ntil 4ever 🤟

these guys just get better and better with every album

Great song
Billy is still the #1...you could recognize his sound even thru a thousand guitars
+Bill Ferencz I like the solo in this song because it is subtle and a little bit different form usual Duffy . . . a nice evolution . . .
+Bill Ferencz Pure Rock and Roll!!! THE CULT baby!!!
Yes I am a fan...and I am also a guitarist..that's why I can say its flanged Matchless sound is unique...ah...you forgot Jimi Hendrix Jimi Page Slash..ok you are right: Billy is not the #1 :-)
+simone seth Billy certainly not the best of the world, but is a Beethoven of this electric era

Me too, they've really used their skills in a slightly different way and produced amazing work!! Love it.

For anyone that does not know, Ian Asbury came up with that riff on guitar

Intactos ++++++++++++++++++++++++++!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm a Venezuelan...
Sadly overlooked album, probably the best Cult album since Sonic Temple.
Music for the Ouroboros (archetype of snake eating its tail, the harmony of opposites)
loudness war, my ears are bleeding
nice song, actually reminds me of Lenny Wolf/Kingdom Come writing style
I'm a european. Lockdown is my mother.
the big the cult ( by ITALIA )
CFFC!
38 brains are deeply ordered chaos
this is not the cult , the cult i love and know does not suck
Oh Cult, I always have my fingers crossed for you, and then ya go and call Bob Rock, and he adds the "boring as Hell filter" to all of your tracks
liberty in england you've gotta be kidding me
I know what I'm gonna be playing at full blast the day of Trump's innaguration . . .
I see you guys are really going Balls Out on all your latest videos these Days, used a few National Geographic clips for this one. You Guys can't be that broke, Can You?
+MrMustard2U
seeing there's about zero money in recording today, the amount spent is entirely appropriate
This song is alright. I just hope that hidden city will be a better album than choice of weapon and born into this. Those two albums are plagued with forgettable songs.
I was born American but when I gotta pee really bad I'm a Russian. When Im a peeing and you're next to me then European.
I've been a true fan of The Cult for more than 30 years. A good song... But I miss a mentioning of "Save Donbass people from Ukranian army".
uh!
I'm a European...just sayin
I'm sorry
First two verses meh, last verse (last :45 of the song) feels a bit more like the Cult....
musically cultish . . . philosophically weird; deeply ordered chaos . . . I almost hoped for some kind of science, then it goes into Syria politics. This one gets a whatever from me.I don't claim to know/understand whatevers going on in Syria.
The Cult gets you to think one second about that. That's what they meant.
Brave New Cult! Always best, at both worlds!
Still not as good as She Sells Sanctuary, but definitely amazing!
...........
Brexit...
Very Bad Co.
Ugh garbage and depressing, what happened to the Wildflower type Cult, this sucks big time!
I agree with you mate, very disappointing.
+SvR2011XBOX360 Bob "the dull" Rock is who I point my finger at
