Wow you shot a lot of film but it was really worth it. You got some great captures and I could feel your sense of peace through how you edited the video.
Thanks, yes I have always used a lot of film, I figure you go through all the effort and no use holding back ;-) Thanks, it was wonderfully peaceful there.
Interesting video showing the Master in work. I am impress with the 2 frames “panoramic” photos that matches perfectly on negatives and on computer… love to hear the how to!! Thanks..
Inspirational video with awesome pictures. I have been photographing for almost 50 years and about 1 year ago I started photographing analog again. The next step will definitely be a large format camera.
Rewatching this video a year later. Still as inspiring as it was when I first saw it. Hopefully my wife and I can travel to Canada in the not too distant future!
Thanks, we actually just rewatched it a week ago as well, only because we really miss that trip. It was a wonderful trip for us, we are headed back this spring! Will do another video.
Ah great images, great locations and talk of FP4 and D76, memories from a decade ago. This is a very welcome video as it was mental health for you and us. Not too sure about that trail through the mud but then Mr. Adams would not worry about a little mud. Glad that you can still shoot film and making the best of the moments of nature that were gifted to you.
Undoubtedly, the very best tutorial LF assignment I have yet seen. You can the sense the amazing degree of liberation Todd is absorbing in this presentation, and we should all plan a good outdoor, stripped down, personal assignment like this. Would love to see a tutorial in the Zone System, and LF neg developing. Big Fan Tom.
great video, I also went to Vancouver Island (Victoria and Tofino) 2 weeks ago, first time going to the island after living in Canada for 20 years. Brought my Leica M3 but wished I brought my medium format camera
Thank you Todd for this video, I loved your photos! I have been feeling quite uninspired the past 8 months with photography and this video really gave me a boost of inspiration! Thanks!
Outstanding video my man it's a treat to watch as it's like we're standing over your shoulder period as someone who also runs a photography UA-cam channel I know the amount of time and effort it takes to shoot a video like this while you're already inundated with shooting the expedition. Much respect
If you’re thinking of also going to Point Lobos do not go on a weekend. It’s wayyyy too crowded. I went last week and couldn’t drive in because the parking areas were all full. I would have had to park about a mile from the preserve and walk in. Next time I’ll go on a week day. 🤨
Loved the video! Very creative body of work, put together beautifully tying it in with the peaceful music amongst the serene setting. The photos are stunning.
Inspiring, magnific place and photography Todd, I wish you and your family a peaceful and happy Christmas. Stay safe and we hope for a new Year full of soft light, great and meditational photography!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this video, thank you. You put a lot of effort into getting out and boy was it worth. A good photography video should inspire the viewer to pick up a camera and get out, you've certainly achieved that Todd, I have film in the fridge so I'm going to dust off my 4x5 Tachihara and get out there, thanks again.
This is a very nice video, Todd. Kudos to the videographer. Of course, your photography is outstanding and makes watching the video worthwhile. I love the west coast of Vancouver Island. Over the years (30+) I have photographed the Ucluelet/Tofino area with my 4x5 camera, sometimes with an 8x10 and more recently with a digital camera. It's truly a magical place to be and create art in whichever form that may be.
Wow, what a wonderful video. Thoroughly enjoyable and informative. So glad the algorithm had this video pop up in my feed. Subscribing and hoping to see more pieces like this. Thank you .

What you did and experienced in this video is a dream for me. I have long wanted an adventure like yours, who knows if one day I will be able to fulfill my wish! Anyway thanks for the wonderful explanations you give during the video. I use the youtube automatic translator but I can understand quite well, thanks!
Amazing images, I'd never guess the film was developed in d76, I guess something about the long exposures make it look very special, wonderful work and video, thanks for sharing and inspiring.
Great stuff. Really enjoy your videos and process. Did a double-take when I saw the reciprocity app, because I use that one myself! Also, I shoot with a Blad myself, 500cm. I notice you had a prism finder on yours. Sounds like you're doing a full episode on that camera/process, but was curious which prism finder you use?
I live here in the Pacific Northwest on the coast of Wa. I have a bag of 120 film coming in for my Hasselblad and will be shooting it mostly because the weather here during winter isn’t very 4x5 friendly.
Yes that's for sure, if I was there I would probably shoot the majority of work on my hasselblad because of the weather. But I sure love it when I can take it out. Cheers
what a landscape! just put in a guy with an axe and you have larry fink's Opening The Sky all over again.. ;) what made you choose bnw over color? i mean, that moss on velvia or portra 160...?
For sure, with colour it’s very easy to get distracted by all the lush green and the beauty. I didn’t want these to be pretty “stock” type photos. With b&w you see a bit more of the deign, the form a little easier for me to get the feeling of the forest out.
Just subbed. Loving the nature shots, getting more and more interested into this genre everyday. Also, well done with the clips, the video feels quite immersive. Cheers from Italy!
A few questions, Todd, if you don't mind: how do you develop 5x7? Do you use trays or is there a tank somewhere? Also, why do you use f45 and above? Is there extra sharpness at that f stop? Larger DOF? Not sure what your reasoning was. I do a fair amount of 4x5 using Nikkor lenses add usually don't use such high f-stops and wondered why you would only use these values. TIA
I develop my film in Jobo expert tanks using constant agitation, I am actually doing a video right now of the process I use, it will be out in a week or so, stay tuned. I use F/45 and sometimes F/64 to get the most depth of field I can get, I want everything in the photograph is sharp, so on a big print the viewer can see every little detail.
I just found your channel. Great stuff. I have a question though... Are you really using Dektol at 1:1 to develop your film? I have used it before as a film developer, but it was punchy as hell at 1:13. Just wondering.
