Thanks for the shoutout man! Means a ton coming from you. It probably isn’t surprise but Sternfeld is one of my biggest inspirations in my current work as well
You’re very welcome. I’m pretty mad I slept on him for so long. Need to get “Stranger Passing” like yesterday 🤓
Hey Lucas, just had a look at your website and pre-ordered your book 📖 📷 👍 🇬🇧
I would highly recommend people who find their surroundings "boring" to go out and shoot what they found boring in their surroundings. This will open up a whole new way of seeing things. I did exactly that and it has changed what I used to hate to something magical. The key is to watch the light. Good light could make trash into priceless gems.
one of the best chanel for film photography
I love that Squarespace joke very refreshing and great video thanks for sharing
Love your introspection. Go Bluez!
I think I’ve watched all of your videos but this one somehow escaped me wow what inspiration.
Great, refreshingly honest video. Thank you for posting.
Wow! Great shots again. Thanks.
Very lovely, Bryan, thank you.
Thanks for sharing your anxiety with setting up a LF camera in public! I'm 65 years old, been shooting film for a good percentage of that time. I'm self conscience about "deploying" a LF shooting platform in public. Great work, keep it going.
Had to stop the video to comment, when the truck went by and erased the letters, sublime.
That was really great Byian. Glad I found your channel...thanks for inspiring us!
Glad you enjoyed it Rene. Thanks for watching!
Babies don’t think the world around them is mundane. I think you’re on your way. Keep going.
Great video Bryan! Loved the scene where you where reflected in the car glass. I like the featured photographer very much as well
Lucas is great! Thanks for watching 🤘🏻
Beautiful pictures and video man. Enjoyed it so much.
Thanks Tim!
Great calm video to watch first thing in the morning. Thanks!
Thank you for watching!
one of your best videos out there! keep them coming! ✊🏼
Thanks! Will do!
You inspire others more than you know young man. I love your work and series that you do. Keep it up!
Thanks Donald. That’s nice to hear. I appreciate it more than you know!
What is boring and cliché for one is really cool or beautiful for others. Living in Sweden and never been to US, I find everyday US street photography fascinating.
A real talent ! Keep going
I really like this post for tons of reasons. And I have to say that I really love the music you used, also. Your photo really was cool after you cropped it, too.
I enjoyed this, and I am happy to learn about Lucas Wiman. I love that area in central Kentucky. I am moving back home to west Kentucky from Nashville in about a month. These are the kind of photos I imagine making there.
Lucas is great as is his work. Glad you enjoyed it. Good luck on the move!
@@BryanBirks, thanks! I look forward to seeing more from you and Lucas.
Great work as always. So inspiring.
Thanks for watching as always 💪🏻
Very nice and interesting video as always Bryan!
I really like the pace, the edit and the music in this one.
Appreciate it!
Great video series. I’d pay to watch these!
Sam Stockman is a photographer that I get inspiration from.
Fantastic portraits. Love how you transitioned from the book to the video scene. Super cool!
Thank you!
You are amazing at videography and photography! It's inspiring and I am definitely going to binge your videos tonight lol
Heck yeah! Thank you 🤘🏻
Wahooo. Superbe travail , superbes techniques ,superbes photos.Bravo
Before watching the video, damn that thumbnail photo is amazing.
Thanks man. 🤘🏻
Brilliant video. And great points about your photographic process, this is a journey!
Thanks Doriyan 🙏🏻
Such a great video, Bryan. Love hearing your thoughts about your work. Love that environmental portrait! Also, Joel’s work is incredible. That first image has so much depth.
Thanks Kyle! I saw you a couple vids ago getting some portraits in. Excited to see more from you. 🤘🏻
I really like where you are going. Nice work.
Thank you very much 🙌🏻
That squarespace mention 😂
Alright, you just earned a new subscriber.
I love at the end how i was not thinking or comparing to Joel Sternfeld anymore.
10/10
Amazing! Thanks.
Beautiful video man! I've thought about getting into large format film. It's so powerful. I live in Utah where the landscapes are otherworldly and the people all seem the same. It's cool to see what people choose to capture where they're at. I feel like you caught that man's soul. Keep up the good work!
Utah is on my travel list. Once the world isn’t shit. Haha
@@BryanBirks Reach out when you do! I'll send you some recommendations.
Your video just happened to be a random popup, I liked it. I'm now subscribed.
Very cool. Glad you found it!
What a great video. Thank you.
You’re welcome!
Great work. Keep it up!
You are an inspirational person.
Thanks Tom!
Cameron Whitman is a photographer I follow on the usual socially media channels. His work from Maryland and beyond is a constant source of inspiration for me.
absolutely beautiful.
Thank you Hayes 🖤
Awesome video dude. I really enjoyed the setting and how honest you were about feeling anxious about shooting in certain situations.
Thank you! I think it’s something that obviously gets easier with time. I honestly get more anxious about landscapes on the street than with a strangers portrait. Super strange.
I love your work, Bryan! The Google Street view tip is incredible - what an awesome way to scope out some neat places to shoot. Thank you!
You are so talented man. This pushes me to want to shoot more.
Thanks dude. That’s what I like to hear. I sometimes need a pick me up to get inspired so I’m glad I can do that for you!
Yeah, me too. Your videos made me wanna go out there and shoot more too. Thanks 🙏🏻
also im alented man
That intro was so funny hahaha
The into alone gave me some chills
Definitely recommend that book if you don’t have. I can sit and look at it for days.
@@BryanBirks I’ll take a look for it :-)
Bryan, I can relate to your comment about being timid or self conscious about shooting on the street. Even after years of shooting weddings I have the same feelings. Now I just stifle that and push on. It doesn't go away but I try to concentrate on what I'm doing. Thanks again
Jim
Your videos and Braes make me so happy man. So god damn happy. Keeps my day going keeps my week going, keeps me shooting through my lens
You hear that Brae? People like us and we make them happy. Haha seriously though, I love to hear that.
I am enjoying seeing you progressing as a photographer and how you share your learnings along the way. Keep going!
I intend to show the ups and downs the whole way through. Thanks Ramon 🖤
If more people watched your videos there would be less hatred in the world. These are so well put together, relaxing and i love the message around getting out of your comfort zone/pushing yourself to do something you wouldn't usually do. The intro could have been taken from a movie.
I really appreciate that! I’ve learned the most in times when I get out and do something that challenges me.
Bryan, I love your honesty about your reluctance to set up your camera(s) in front of people in public places, and how you much you are challenging yourself to find the inner strength to step outside the box as they say! I was just like that when I started in photography over 40 years ago, so I can relate with you Full Stop! I also Love how you analyze your photos and interpret them aesthetically and technically!! You really get it. You are also backing yourself up with the medium format which allows you that extra chance to work quickly and to get more variety when you need to. It's so easy to see how much you love photography and how inspired you are to learn from other more experienced photographers. I also think you are truly honoring the various photographers who you have been inspired by. I think that would make for some amazing content for your channel. Last but not least, You have an engaging speaking voice and a very pleasant "on camera"manner that help to make your videos very easy to watch and listen to. You've proven to me that you can do whatever you set out to do. I'll be watching you for sure!
Great commentary man 👊🏼
I love the idea of finding inspiration in other photographers' work. It's a great way to see beyond the mundane and find some great pictures. This is my favourite channel right now and I'm looking forward to more from you in a similar vein. Keep up the great work and thank you for sharing!
Thank you! That means a lot.
Amazing shots! Amazing channel!
Thank you!
Love that video!
amazing video. one of your best for sure
Thank you Dan 🤘🏻
This was outstanding.
Thank you Lewis 🙌🏻
Pretty cool video man. First one of yours I have seen, looking forward to others coming up :)
Thanks for watching!
Google search, what a great idea, thank you, great work BTW.
Another great video Bryan! I can really tell you put a bunch of effort into making these, it doesn't go unnoticed. I do too love taking pictures of cars, but your videos have inspired me to try and make a portrait of the owner when I see them with their car.
Love to hear that. I love a good car pic but people are missing out on the owners. The stories they tell...
Appreciate the support Sterling 🤘🏻
Loved the video, definitely a new sub. I am not from the US so nothing seems ‘mondane’ to me. All those old cars and abandoned places/buildings seem so cool to photograph! Cheers
I definitely need to remember that not everyone is from America. Haha Thanks for the kind words!
Good lord this is a good video. Good job man, keep it up. Just subscribed 👏🏾
Thank you!
I have been inspired by Renoir for landscapes and Vermeer for portraits ever since I was an undergrad.
Large format can be a struggle bus for sure. We were shooting wet plate collodion in school and I had a hard time getting everything in focus. It was the only time in that class that I got a B on an assignement. Have you looked at Vivian Maire's work? I also really like Nathan Pierce, Sarah Christianson, and then the obvious ones like William Eggleston, Ansel Adams. I also like Joe Greer.
That first shot of the tops of the cars is superb. The Squarespace joke straight after was very current and funny.
Thanks dude. Always gotta poke fun 😎
@@BryanBirks Actually I enjoyed this whole video more than any photography vid I've seen for a while. The full body LF colour shot of the long haired man was exceptional. You're really starting to nail 4x5 Bryan.
Huge fan of Sternfeld's work. For a more recent book with a similar vibe check out Somewhere Along the Line by Joshua Dudley Greer.
Definitely another inspiration for me. I’ve been looking at his work a ton. Very Sternfeld-like.
great video
This was really inspiring. I took ages to create my channel because my anxiety kept holding me back, for numerous reasons. I still waste a ton of time when shooting videos, because I keep repeating the same scenes over and over, as "they're never good enough". It's nice to know that there are other people out there overcoming these similar issues and being able to create such awesome content. Thank you!
Happens to us all at some point. Just focus on little things to improve. Glad your got something out of it!
Great work man!
Thank you! Cheers!
Very enjoyable video. Thx
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful portrait dude.
Thank you 🙏🏻
It is worth the sweat to overcome your fear. I say this coming from the same feeling and I am still missing some shots because I overthink the situation too much. Do it and feel the change inside you! You feel like happiest person in the whole universe.
9:06 bravo
The detailed shots and story that goes along really shine in this video Bryan..well done and you can tell that timidness is quickly going away in your work..really starting to see a “ style “ happening man. Keep these coming,an inspiration to get out and get creative with photography..and I’m all for that 🙌🏼
Thanks dude. Means a lot. Starting to finally have a goal with each shot and that’s a good feeling!
the portraits at the end are really moving, love that you can see a few of his hairs stuck to his scruffy chin. super inspiring, thanks for sharing!
Thank you Lily! 🤘🏻
really great portraits man!
Another outstanding film. I really look forward to your work coming out.
Thanks for always supporting Stephen !
Dude love how you keep honing in on your style. This was great.
Only takes me months or years to find it. Haha thanks dude.
Love your work man, keep it up!
Thanks dude. Love your name. Haha
@@BryanBirks hahaha that's a first but I'll take it!
Great work. Seems like your on a direction to find your own message. It is not easy taking photos in public, the vulnerability, feeling of being judged, but your finding a good way around that. The world is waiting to be photographed and nobody can stop you. keep up the inspiring work.
very enjoyable, good job
Thank you Ian 🤙🏻
Very cool!! They're beautiful pictures. I just started learning wet plate collodion with a 4x5 camera. I haven't taken outside in public yet. I have anxiety too so I feel you:) At least you don't need a tent with you! LOL I'm looking forward to more videos:))
Production quality is really impressive, thank you for all the effort
Thanks for watching!
Been a fan of your work on various internet platforms for a while, but I’m ashamed to say this is the first time I’ve sat down to watch your video. First off - that page turn transition was delicious!
Definitely an interesting point about tastes changing. There are a bunch of personal shots I didn’t like, until I saw other people take similar shots, which I reacted quite positively to, and then I suddenly liked my own work more.
Thanks for a great video!
Pleasure to have you here! Thanks for watching.
that cut gave me chills solid af man
This video is so good Bryan!
Loved hearing your thoughts with the relaxing music in the background + the very nice cinematography at the beginning :)
Thank you Mathieu!
Keep it up dude, keep on exploring the mundane. :D
Outstanding Bryan. Really like what you’ve been doing and where you are going
Appreciate it Nick 🙌🏻
The way you blur out the background when out filming yourself is perfect. It adds something ethereal to the video. I think somehow it conveys that your out trying to get over your timidness but also trying to focus on the task.
I initially did it just so the viewer focuses on what I’m doing but I like you’re reasoning better. Haha
Setting the standard Bryan. I love it. Great work bro!
Thanks dude. Appreciate it 🤘🏻
Great videography - that transition from book to trainline was especially nice. Really enjoying these "adventure" breakdown videos. :)
Thank you sir. Appreciate it!
Que buen trabajo!
excellent video and I love the pacing. It's immersive and just keeps pulling me along. I especially love those BW images at about 9:35. Just so clean and interesting into Americana. Thanks!
Thanks for the kind words Joe!
This video is absolute soul food for the mind and body. I use video and digital film and photography professionally for my day job but since the beginning of the year I’ve blown off the dust from my film cameras and have been shooting mainly 35mm and 120 film. It’s been incredibly cathartic and I’ve enjoyed slowing down and just actually being in the environment around me as opposed to always just passing through it.
Great to hear that! Thanks for watching Sam.
Most enjoyable Bryan. I’ve recently gotten back into shooting 35mm. Photographers, like yourself, have a way of showing some of us that there is a tremendous amount of subject matter available to us, if we take the time to look. Thanks for sharing.👍👍
Thanks for watching Terry!
dude the photo of that guy is amazing!! Lucas is the homie too, rad. great video :)
The portrait is amazing !
Thanks Sebastian!
I just discovered your channel and man... great content ! This project mixing landscape and humanity is really nice. I will follow your work with attention. Thank you for the inspiration !
Thank you. That means a lot. Glad I could be a positive force for you!
Really excellent. Great tip on google street view. Why didnt i think of that?!?
Highly overlooked tool!
