Good to see you and the 2cv back in the garage Mark. The light adjustment bar measurements are roughly: From the very end of the rod to the sliding tube is 8mm, the sliding/turning tube is 26mm and the threaded rod bit after that is 15mm in length.
Thanks Conor, I will measure what I have got before refitting the light bar as the range of adjustment at present is way off.
Enjoyed the video and what a neat project. The engine is easier to remove than some of the motorcycle engines I have removed and the stuck dowel pin reminds me of a dowel pin problem I ran into when splitting a set of Gold Wing cases. While we can sometimes guess, we don't know for sure what we are going to run into when working in our shops, but we keep at it as the work is never dull. Thank you for your videos!
You are so right Ron, something simple like a dowel can turn what should be something straightforward into a pain. I bet pulling the Goldwing engine was a lot harder than my 2cv!
Just to say Thanks so much for making Your videos. It is much appreciated. I know how difficult it is when I tried videoing My Lomax engine restoration, and got nowhere. I've watched most of Your 2cv stuff, it is excellent and so informative and useful as I am about to do an engine rebuild, then swap on Mine . Best Wishes Jahmahrah
Really glad you enjoyed them, good luck with the rebuild and thanks very much for watching!
Hi Mark Nice to see you back on the spanners, must catch up ,Navigation time!! Cheers STEVE.
Hi Steve, sounds good, my old phone blew up and I lost all my contacts. My number is still the same so drop me a text when you fancy it.
@@oldnutsgarageHi Mark Sounds good you have put more miles in this summer than Judith Charmers.PS Great Video..
Really useful. Mine is being treatedf to a new clutch so this is perfect. Thank you.
Having removed my 2cv engine umpteen times, I know how difficult it is doing it solo. Well, it is for me at the age of seventy-eight. One thing I must mention is that there is no necessity to remove the starter motor; it is bolted to the gearbox. Oh, and that the headlight angle can be altered by loosening the nut underneath each one and reset, so the the tube that you are questioning the length of on the adjuster mechanism is irrelevant really. Keep up the good work!
You have a good decade more than me on the clock and I still find it a struggle so you must be a fit guy. I removed the starter ( or at least drop it back ) as I am nervous about the flywheel being in close proximity as the engine is wiggled about, perhaps over cautious but just the way I have always approached it. The adjuster tube length is an issue as the headlights are already pulled back to their maximum on the bottom nuts and the lights have no further adjustment upwards so something isn't right I just haven't worked out what it is yet. Thanks a lot for watching!
Nice job !
I notice that the disc brakes are not equipped with cooling scoops connected to the flow of cold air that comes from the fan shroud. Perhaps if you find fairings you can take advantage of the gearbox being accessible to mount them.
All the best !
Yes they definitely should be there but as there is no undertray fitted the air circulation is not bad, I also do not have any in my parts stash at the moment so maybe a job for the future. Thanks for watching!
Excellent. very good to see you back. while i think of it what are your thoughts on BMW motorbike engines being used in 2cv's ?
I have never tried one James but would love to give one a go. I assume the conversion costs a few quid though? Might be an interesting project mind you, I will have a look on eBay and see how much engines go for!
I finally have the time to tackle my engine, I believe I blew a manifold or something this summer. Might as well do the whole engine now, been looking forward to do so! I was a little hasty however, and forgot to support the gearbox. Any tips on how to lift it again? I have a sump guard under the chassis and the brakedisc vents mounted, its bolts seem seized and are very hard to reach...
Oh dear that sounds like an unfortunate combination. I think one solution would be to get a second person to slide a support under the gearbox as you lift the unit up at the front. Not easy though, depends on how good your back is!
So we'll be seeing you in Plouay next May?
I would love to go as I have not been to a French National for years but I have two trips ealy next year and will be struggling for Schengen days. I think.90 in 180 is a real pain in the a**e.
