All Atari 2600 games on the Evercade have the same difficulty switch behavior. Left shoulder button is the left difficulty switch, right is the right difficulty switch. A lot of Atari 2600 and 7800 games require you to change the difficulty switches to get the most out of the games - they often control significant gameplay changes. The only bug is that pressing them again doesn't switch them back to easy. It should say something about what the setting is, too.

The games I rank as ‘2’ may have some value, but I would have preferred they focus on giving us higher quality games. Dark Chambers is ‘ok’ but this should have been subbed out for the superior 7800 version. Summary: the 2600 is far too old of a system to give us filler or shovel ware. They need to include only the best of the best. And where are the ACTIVISION titles, or 5200 games or Atari 8-bit computer games? Sub out the low end of the 2600 games for some of these, and the Evercade could really shine. If you’re going to give us poor games, at least give us the poor games that are notorious like E.T. Or 2600 PacMan for crappy nostalgia. I still like the system, and I don’t regret having Atari #2, but it could have been better.
The 7800 versions of Asteroids and Centipede are both better than their arcade counterparts imo, *but* part of the reason for that is their fantastic 2-player co-op and competitive modes that can't be replicated on the Evercade. Try them out on a real 7800 if you haven't before.
This is the Evercade cartridge that I've spent the most time per game on. My only real complaint is that Dark Chambers is a million times better on the 7800 - the 2600 version is the one that should have been the bonus unlockable on the VS. Sigh.
Curious to see how asteroids and basketbrawl compares on the Lynx collection. The Lynx collections is a more interesting package, but if the 7800 versions is better, I would consider this collection. Let us know which versions are better in your opinion. Never had a 7800 or Lynx to know!
Thanks for the review because I just ordered this game online. For some reason it’s only sold on eBay and Amazon. Cheaper than getting a 7800. I still wonder if it’s worth getting a 7800 or does the Atari collection 1 and 2 on the evercade cover the 7800 library?
Collection 1 has Food Fight which is my favorite game for the system as well as Ninja Golf which is... NINJA FREAKIN GOLF. Collection 2 has Asteroids which is a great version of the game as well as Centipede. I'd say that's a really solid basis. I only had like 7 games for my 7800 back in the day, so I don't really know for sure which are the good games outside of those.
When I was a kid my parental units acquired a couple of pong games, an Intellivision and an Atari 2600. I never got into the blocky graphics scene and didn’t really get much enjoyment out of video games until the Nintendo released and gave us half decent graphics and arcade game ports that were nearly perfect sometimes. I still remember playing Pin*Bot & High Speed pinball simulations on the NES that were pretty good all things considered. Nice review Crow. I like your style. 🏆

The Atari 7800 was the 1st console I bought with my birthday money when I was 12. Still have all my games but not my 7800.
