That one scene made the ending for me. That's how games should be scripted and acting with those kinds of interactions.
Balthier was the best character in the whole series and it made me happy to see all of them alive and well.

Sorry vaan is the protagonist the dissidia decide and the game,balthier is the legacy of the brother.
Vaan is my favorite MC in all final fantasy, he's just a normal guy that got thrown into an insane group of people and ended up helping save the whole world. He's not destined, he's not all powerful, he's just doing his best.

He's a bit like Locke from FFVI, just a normal thief looking to make his way in the world (While trying to revive his dead girlfriend) and ended up helping kill Kefka the god and restoring balance to the world.
Every single/each of the party members are actually protagonists at some point of the game.

This is one of the most bittersweet endings in the franchise. Everyone goes back to their old lives and classes but they’ve changed so much as people.

Rather than atone.... He just wanted to save rabanastre from total destruction. Zargabaath is a man of reason, the most level headed within the judge magisters. And to him the destruction and death of rabanastre and her populace is unreasonable and unnecessary. And therefore he tries to save her in the only way he knows is open to him which is to ram it and use the e
Detonationn of his flagship to propel bahamut even more from the city. So yeah Imo rather than seeking atonement zargabaath is just singularly trying to save rabanastre.

Throw in the death of Drace, it's obvious that Vayne's war machine weighed on his conscience. But I agree that was also honor-bound to defend Rabanstre from needless destruction.

I think the credits had the most effect on me. The pictures of balthier with his dad and basch and gabranth posing as young twins. The story had some much more potential I feel.
Had Basch been the main character and there was no Vaan and Panelo, probably would of been perfect

This game has fantastic characters... Vayne and Larsa, Basch and Noah, Cid and Balthier, Fran, even Ashe, Vaan and Penelo have their charm. I loved to see their archs properly concluded in the story, which is much better than people give credit to.
Don’t forget Vossler, Reddas and Rex.

Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Lions is good but it's a tactics game. Great story though. The story is better in that game IMO. No other final fantasies are like this one so I couldnt recommend anything else. Tactics and FF12 take place in the same world of Ivalice. Tactics takes place WELL after I think. Balthier is in that game as a cameo party member lol.

FF14 is really good if you have patience for MMOs (technically very similar to FF12 gameplay wise since 12 was already trying to play like 11), it still is very story focused and Shadowbringers has one of the best stories in any FF game.

I think Judge Zargabaath preparing to ram the Bahamut (and most likely sacrifice his ship and crew in the process) to save a foreign city is actually fucking awesome. Just goes to show that not all people in the Empire are evil. Man deserves a medal.
just beat it 10 mins ago and watched this. What a legend! In earlier cinematic he also asks Vayne to reconsider killing judge D (the female judge) he truly is a good guy stuck in a wrong war

@Brett Yarborough Her name is Nicole Fantl. Sadly though, it seems as if her role as Fran was really the most credible role she had. A shame, since she seems super talented. Nicole seemed to capture Fran's cold and mysterious demeanor perfectly.

Just platted the game and saw the ending. Man this games ending got better and better. Basch promising his dying brother he'd guard larsa hit me much harder this time than it did 10 years ago.

Judge Zargabaath is a giga chad in armor. Dude was willing to throw his life for Rabanastre even though they were at war just a minute ago. It just goes to show that he didn't bear any ill intent against Dalmasca in the first place.

The first time I played this was back in 2007. I plugged in over 130 hours, just running around to get the best gear in game. It will always be a favorite of mine-- Balthier and Basch. I'm glad to be picking this baby up again in April.

Hearing Ashe call Balthier's name before the strahl blasts off with the scene of the bhamut crashing gives me chills everytime. 12 is definitely my favorite final Fantasy game ;)
It always makes me tears when Basch closes his eyes and remember Gabranth 😭😭😭😭😭😭 you can see the pain on his eyes for losing his brother
Basch went through pain a lot of times. When his homeland was destroyed and he and his brother went separeted ways, when he couldn't protect Rasler, when he couldn't protect the King Raminas and the princess Ashe, when he was arrested by the empire and "became a traitor". One word that defines Basch is resilience!

The dark times began with Gabranth wearing Basch's face. And so they *end* with Basch wearing Gabranth's face.

Go play ff14 a realm reborn with its expansions. One of the best, if not literally the best storytelling square has ever presented us with. Especially once you reach the heavensward expansion

Balthier's outward arrogant & selfish persona just hides the fact that internally he is a genuinely good & noble guy which he demonstrates in this final act of altruism. Just like Han Solo
I just finished this game and loved it. I'm in a minority in that I really liked Vaan though especially since it felt like Balthier treated him the way he wished he could have lived at his age. Raised him essentially, and showed him the ropes while letting him make decisions for himself. I really don't care about "main characters" in games and just like that they all felt like part of the world and story.
Havn't enjoyed a cast and world from an FF game this much since FF6.

Oh good I found a person who actually gets what I mean. I love how in this game the whole story may have a stronger attention to some characters but it still feels like it's about the entire gorup, not just one person.
Dude I loved Vaan, he's just a regular good guy trying his best. He's not royal, powerful, nor a hero, he's just Vaan.

This ending make me want to smile after beating the game now that war in Ivalice is over in FFXII

Actually it’s not just British - the setting is very much Middle Eastern heavy. Dalmasca is based on Damascus, Syria and a lot of the architecture style and decoration is Persian. Archades has Middle East influence too. Rozzaria appears Russian influenced from Al-Cids’s accent. And Bhujerba accent and key technical words used are Indian/Sanskrit.

I don't care what anyone says, Balthier and Fran are the MAIN characters of this game and are two of my favorite characters in the entire FF franchise. Balthier is definitely the Leading Man.

It is as he resembles tidus in many ways.
Vaan was shoehorned in mid development just so the game had a teenage kid that people would like. He wasn't even originally going to be part of the game. The true protagonists are Balthier and Ashe.
@@sharpsCASF yeah I can see that. But I guess plans changed. They probably held the controls to reks for the entire game. But its changed when they thought of his family which he has a younger brother. Its odd that's the control were for him. I also can tell that it was suppose to be another female lead game with ashe, Penelope and the other girl in party. And i think the character build on the grid or graph was suppose to be the main core of the game since ff10. But instead, we get traditional level ups and get the license to use items and upgrades on the board.
i read on some source that either Basch or Balthier should be the main character, and they changed it to Vaan just so that the game could have an Angsty Teenager as a main character, just like any other FF
The voice acting alone is out of this world.
Here's hoping Zodiac Age will finally bring Revenant Wings a remaster or remake on Switch/PS4!

They had to stop the war, that's why i guess. Plus a lot bad events happened until the defeat of Vayne, like the death of Reddas.

I played it 10-11 years ago, and to this day this game still always my favorit and reckon it as the best game I ever played.
This really is such a fantastic game. My favorite character has to be the main character, Ashe, but Basch is pretty cool too. Some of them damn espers were hard as fuck to get though, rather I spent a whole lot of time trying to get them but I loved every minute of it.
You are not the only one who sees Ashe as the real main character.
Is vaan is the leader of party and the encharged of the licence and weapons the orders,dissidia chosen the principal from every game the proof suficient.

While I like this ending....I always felt a bit uneasy about how Ashe just essentially forgot about the people that GOT her to her rightful place on the throne
It is rather a grave misfortune, that for the sake of her people at large, the personal bonds she's made to those who have grown close to her would have to come as secondary concern. That is the weight she bears as heir, who by burden of blood must ensure the peace and safety over the kingdom she must now rebuild after years of tyrannical rule from an opposing empire.
She remains distant yes, but she hasn't forgotten. At least, I would think not.

FF12 did have the best storyline until Remake & Rebirth came, but I still loved the whole FF12 storyline since it was of war and didn’t focus on romance entirely like other FF games. FF12 was the start of the change of FF battle system.

From 07-11 I played this constantly, so many fond memories of it.
Zargabaaths voice and armor is so sick
first time seeing this beautiful ending was back in 2006, then the second time was 2011 on emulator
and finally just few minutes ago on Zodiac Age PC
as i grow older, the more i love it and now it hits me harder, especially on the Balthier - Cid sketch

Eh, years later... whatever. If you like fanfics, there is an amazing (sadly unfinished) one that fleshes out the backstory.
Moments in another time by twigcollins. You will never look at the characters in the same way after that... Vayne's motivations, what Cid really thinks of his son, Ashe's not-so-noble quest, why Larsa is the way he is, why he trusts his brother and how that makes complete sense.
A whole EPIC 9 chapters on how Fran and Balthier met and I've reread it so many times over the years I can't even count. It's just... I can't praise it enough, ok? It's what I _wish_ the game story was.
Just tons and tons. It's a series on AO3 or one long fanfic on FFnet.
It diverges a little, but hasn't gone into the game far enough to really spin away.

I love the poetry of Basch using Gabranth's name to stop the attack. The game started with Gabranth using Basch's name to murder King Raminas, kill Recks and bring Dalmasca under complete imperial rule, it ends with the complete opposite to save lives and free Dalmasca from imperial rule.

I never got to see the ending back in my ps2 day. Damn that memory card kept on corrupting when I'm near the boss. But at least I'm getting this game to complete it this time.
If you're getting the remastered version (FFXII Zodiac Age), I will warn you that the license board is different from the original PS2 game, but it does help to make sure you use all the characters instead of power building 3 and then getting fucked when you have to switch to the other 3.
A masterpiece, and a very underrated game.
I dont understand why people are saying this is an underrated game, when this is one of the top selling ff games, not to mention so much praise for it's upgrade from the old ff games platform and opening a new and better way to play rpg games...

I really enjoyed this game. The storyline itself was a bit hard to follow at times and for me didn't leave the same everlasting mark as the one from FFX. However I really enjoyed the characters and their development and Balthier and Fran made a cute and badass pair all the way. The gameplay and setting designs were awesome too. Loved the variety and how open it all was. Definitely feels underappreciated compared to its predecessors. i wish FF 13 was better in those aspects. Felt way too linear and automatic for my taste however I've been enjoying FF15 a little better so far. Either way I definitely want to buy this version for the PS4 and relive it.

Enough of ridiculousness, it is good that you do not like it but do not say stupid arguments, for example, they are the reason why the princess did not come and did not declare war, another van is the one who sees all the equipment that carries the licenses and weapons He even gives orders and is a good fighter after that they say that he is not useful and is not necessary when he wants his beloved character to be in the group, but then they would only have gone away like the pirates of the sky who are, apart from being a boy at that time that his brother died he was strong and resisted working he also steals to eat and earn money were difficult times, even so he smiles and wants to make his dream come true They can argue that everyone hates him at first later nor do they separate from him although he is very childish but he has a strong heart there they want more he is not a useless and if he was worth of the main protagonist since he improves with time forgive batch was the first when he also did not know who the real murderer was but it was not with understanding it was because he was strong and decided not to cling to an unjust hatred, he decided to look for the real one and help his friends along the way as it does not help the plot if this is about him and his brother everything begins and ends with the redemption of all to a better path without war, it was obviously a shame for those who died but who knew how to take it is like you but more dreamy but not romantic but energetic and brave.
@@charhaznable3399 I love FFXII but he isn't wrong. The story will progress the same without Vaan and Penelo. Ashe should be the official protagonist of this game. After all, the game is clearly focus to her. Even Larsa is more relevant than Vaan and Penelo combined.

I always find Vaan and Penelo more substitutes for the audience than actual characters. It's more the Story of Ashe, Basch and Balthier with Fran as the true supporting character.

yesterday i've finished my final fantasy 12, 25 aug 2023 .. and this marked the 6th final fantasy games i've beaten. first is 9 then 8, 7, then 6 and then 10 and yesterday 12. all ff games are awesome on their own way.. and the music kiss me good bye by nobuo uematsu hit me the most

Tactics A2 is more like spinoff game. Some kind played ff12, found a magic book that grand his wishes, ff12 Ivalice then recreated in in his own world based on his memory of playing ff12. A2 Ivalice is not the same Ivalice of ff12. It's mere imitation.
I wish we could have another lore on Ivalice.
