Back in the early/mid ‘80s, a friend of mine in Jacksonville, AR, John Norrell (a Class III firearms dealer/manufacturer) had a “select fire” trigger group that he developed for the Ruger 10/22. You could select between semi auto or full. He also milled out the stocks and made a full barrel length suppressor that looked like it could’ve been factory. I got to fire one a few times, and What impressed me most was how quiet it was. The noise of the action working was louder than the gun firing! His trigger group was “patent pending” back when I worked for him. It’s probably the coolest gun I’ve ever fired!😄

Agree & I saw 1 years later. Historically, the 10/22 with a cut down threaded barrel with a silencer, converted to full auto & the stock cut down was a signature f2f assassination weapon of a certain Org Crime family + a Country's Secret Service arm during the late 80s into the 90s. There was a "tremble trigger" that mimicked full auto similar to the outlawed AR-15 trigger. Cut down, even w/a can, they fit under a jacket & SO quiet! Easy to buy anyplace & under $300 completely modified in hours back then.

Hello Plinkster. I was hoping you’d get around to shooting a Norrell 10/22 trigger pack someday, so it was fun to see this video.
I’d wanted a Norrell pack for almost a decade and finally got one a few years ago. It currently resides in a 10/22 Takedown, and I can honestly say it’s the most fun gun I’ve ever shot. One nice thing about the Takedown is that you can easily and legally have a short barrel on it without having to have an additional tax stamp for a short barrel rifle (machine guns may legally have any barrel length). Just make sure the trigger pack is in the host before installing the short barrel, and remove the short barrel prior to taking the trigger pack out of the host.
John is one of the nicest people in the 2A Community. This was my first machine gun, and I had lots of newbie questions. He patiently answered them and explained anything I didn’t understand. Once I realized how to do what little maintenance is required on his trigger pack, how to adjust its plunger that controls the speed and function of its modified bolt, the importance of testing and sorting magazines that run well (not all do-even some brand new ones), using quality ammunition such as CCI 40 grain round nose Minimag, and the basic cleaning and minimal lubrication of the host gun, the set up will often run flawlessly for several hundred rounds. It will function with other ammunition too, but John designed the pack to work with CCI 40 grain round nose Minimag cartridges. The 10 round Ruger mags tend to run the best, but you can certainly find Ruger 15 and 25 round mags that will run very reliably, too. The standard barrel lengths with non match chambers run the most reliably, but shorter length barrels with non match chambers can run very well.
I’m fortunate my pack will also run reliably using standard velocity ammo, in a short barrel with a suppressor attached. Suppressed Piney Mountain tracers are a hoot, and the Silencerco Sparrow and Dead Air Mask suppressors are full auto rated.
Also, John made 2 styles of trigger packs. One uses a lever to select semi or full auto operation. Mine is the “button style”. It has a recessed button in the trigger face. Your finger placement on the trigger face determines if the pack will fire semi auto or full auto. Both styles work well-it’s just a matter of preference.
Nice of the folks at Silencer Central to let you use their 10/22. However, it should be running much more reliably than it did. If they wanted, they could contact John for his expert advice.
Love your videos-you’re a great shooter and ambassador of the shooting sports!

I had a Ruger 10/22 once. I loved that rifle. I have put almost 5,000 rounds through it. I didn't know anything about auto-shears and stuff like that, but one day I pulled the trigger and I emptied the magazine. Then every time to tried to fire it, the gun would just empty the clip. What a great gun. Traded it for a a nice motorcycle. I don't know what was going on inside the gun, and I didn't care. I never modified it.

If this defect occurs, what is the owner supposed to do with the gun?

    • @butchie2752
      @butchie2752 7 місяців тому

@@NKA23 if he sold all the parts to the same guy who reassembled it as a class 3 weapon, they’re both toast. The government has to prove that he knowingly sold and that he knew it when he sold it. Even if he could talk his way out of it, which would largely depend on his criminal history, the lawyer would probably cost 5-10 grand nit including trial. If he made a deal to plead guilty to something, even if he didn’t go to the pokey, he’d lose his firearm ownership rights. If it went auto out of a trigger defect he could probably sell parts other than the defective trigger mechanism.

I was surprised that it couldn't run drums as a .22 conversion upper on a select-fire M-16 lower was able to run drums at about the same fire rate. The AM-180 also adds the advantage of large capacity and fast fire rate (165 round Lexan drum in 6 seconds=1650 RPM). Just a few possible .22 companions to that Ruger conversion.

Got to shoot one once and it was so fast. It emptied the 10 round mag before I could even let off the trigger. And it had more muzzle rise than I expected.

CAPS LOCK is a button on a computer keyboard that causes all letters of Latin and Cyrillic based scripts to be generated in capital letters. It is a toggle key: each press reverses the previous action.

it's nice to see a stock looking 10/22 for a change Im going on $1,200 in barrels for my mag research 10/22 because I keep changing my mind on what I want the finished product to look like ( it's been apart going on 13 years ) I THINK I decided on getting My SBR and suppressor permits and going wiith the 6" carbon barrel + suppressed oh Im on my 4th stock as well Im designing this one myself Im not to thrilled with anything out there .

My friend had a 10-22 back in the 70's and discovered that if you pushed in on the safety the instant that you pull the trigger and hold it , it would go full auto, because the safety presses against the sear and holds it down.
Don't know if the newer ones are still made the same.

Could you please give me a recommendation for a nice reliable 22 pistol. I live in CA.

    Many thanks for your expertise.

Same for me. The walther p22 CA is not the best thing to run since its very picky with ammunition requirements such as 40 grain CCI Blazers, and even then that is also iffy unfortunately...that walther I say.

you could just replace the recoil spring in the gun with a stiffer one instead of having to rely on constantly regreasing it.

I bought my Ruger 10/22 Compact new for $270. Then I bought a BMF activator for $40, and a GSG 110 Rd drum for $70. For under $400, I now have a 100% legal machine gun.
