Top one is a palomar. Bottom is improved clinch. Top is imo the best knot in fishing period. The strength retention, consistency, simplicity to tie, everything is incredible. The ONLY thing that sucks about it is you have to pass a doubled up line thru the eyelet of your hook. It's not an issue for almost all fishing except fly fishing. Especially midges, small dries, and nymphs. You can't pass doubled up 7x thru a size 22 griffiths gnat. Or if you could it would take you 20 min. It's why I use improved clinch for fly fishing and palomar for everything else.

@@StingerFlop uni-knot takes longer to tie and the clinch or standard american knot just works perfect. I know both but always use the standard.
ALSO the uni-knot isn't that good for tying different fishing lines together. It's a bit bulky. There are smoother knots that won't get hung up on the eyes of your fishing rod like a uni-to-uni knot will. I don't even know the name of the knot I use but you twist a folded braidline around your fluoro or mono or whatever then pull the fluoro through it. Very smooth knot.
