    I would love to see you working with the DA microfiber system from meguiars and give us your thoughts.
    I've used it and I found that it is good , but I would like to know your opinion as a Professional.

    I completely agree with everything in this video. I've tried the microfiber and the same thing happened. It's creating swirls while "correcting" swirls. i.e. they don't work. The foam works every time no swirls no marring. Thanks.

    After doing a section pass you should clean the mf pad with compressed air. MF pads clean best with air. A cleaning brush will work to but not as effective as the compressed air.

    Interesting that your results seem to contradict all the objective tests regarding the cutting speed of microfibre discs vs foam pads. Maybe the stiffer backing plate and the higher speeds of the foam could have been an effect or the stay detailer was masking the final results on the foam tests? Either way it doesn't matter because this was pretty anecdotal and I prefer to trust the numbers so to speak (or at least trust r+d lab testing over garage testing!)..... sweet video nonetheless!

      Super late to this video...but my exact thoughts as well. Typically wool and microfiber run cooler too than a closed cell foam pad. I use microfiber pads all the time along with Griot's boss system and always a fast flawless finish. Also I feel your suppose to butter those pads a bit more than use smaller amounts to start other panels ...idk I'm just an advanced amateur lol 😂

    OK, I was at first leaning towards the M105 to M205 using foam pads. Then did more research and found that when using a DA polisher, Mcguiars actually recommends going to the D300 compound and D302 Polish, BUT these are recommended to use with microfiber pads. Now I watch this video and I am totally lost again. What would you recommend for less cutting time, can I use the D300 with a foam pad even though McGuiars really recommends it for the microfiber? (or perhaps the microfiber Mcguiars uses is better at cutting than the ones you use here?).

      rodney hawkins i use m105 and m205 with hexlogic foam pads with great results but like junkman says if you have a crap technique then you will get crap results just buy which ever compound pick up a 20buck fender of a car thats around 12years old and have a go you will soon find out there is nothing to be afraid of, now practice with which ever compound and polish and you will impress your self im sure as i was the same as you.

    • @opmike343
      @opmike343 7 років тому +2

      Don't get lost in the weeds. M105 and M205 may have been "supplanted" with more modern products, but they are known quantities. There's a lot of data out there on them, and most of that data has been with people using foam pads.

      Meguiars, contacted me yesterday because i had same Question, They replied that i can use D300 Compound, D301 Polishing Wax and D302 Polish can be used with Foam Pads as well. The D series compound, Polish and Wax were designed for Microfiber pads, Do to Microfiber pads being a little more aggressive, they cut better and faster with the D Series Compound, Polish and Wax.,
      To ansnwer your ? Yes you can use them with Foam pads, as well, but they will require a little more work and you wont get as faster results as you would with the Microfiber pads with the D series Compound, Polish and Wax. hope this helps :o)

    I have an 2015 Audi A3. Medium to slight dark blue metallic paint that has some very light swirl marks. Was going to use the Optimum Hyper polish spray and their black foam pad. Just ordered a PC7424XP. This will be my first time using a machine. I have watched your 6 video series on novice detailing.
    I will wash (two bucket method) then clay using meguiars clay bar then polish, then wax it.

    • @Junkman2008
      @Junkman2008 8 років тому

      The way microfiber works and foam works are different. You only spritz a pad when there is enough polish on the pad to be revived.

    • @kingsway731

      if you're using products with deteriorating abrasives, there is no reviving it. Know how and why your products work.

    Hey Junkman, I'm curious if you had the chance to try one of those 21mm long throw polishers and what your thoughts were...great video

    • @Junkman2008
      @Junkman2008 9 років тому +1

      +Mp0wer If the polisher doesn't have forced rotation, it's just waste of money because you will magnify the problems that an under-powered orbital has unless you are using it on a perfectly flat surface. If it does have forced rotation (as in a dual-action polisher like the Flex 3401VRG), then it would be good to use on something like a very big object (large boat, RV or box truck). On a car, especially a small one, it's worthless. A novice should want as small of a throw as possible so that they can get the most out of perfecting their technique.
      Don't fall for every detailing gimmick that comes out. Manufacturers are constantly trying to figure out how to separate YOU and your money. If you truly understand what the size of a throw does as far as buffing is concerned, you can easily see the pitfalls as well as any advantages it gives you.

      And for those folks in the dark who fall for those gimmicks, they are giving away their hard earned bucks. That's why you hardly ever see me posting on forums that push that crap. Those vendors are either paying to be there or they own the forum and if you go against some of the crap they post, you'll end up getting banned. I stay away for that reason and preach all my sermons on my You Tube channel. Funny thing is, those companies are watching me and have tried to reach out to me in different ways. I always tell them if you want to buy me, it's going to cost you 6-figures. If you try to intimidate me then go screw yourself.
      They usually leave me alone after that. :)

    Junkman, I like your videos, which are very informative, but this video had me scratching my head. It was not up to par with your previous videos (i.e. did not follow your typical protocol). I found quite a few questionable things about this review, but one very obvious thing is you never showed a "before/after" closeup of the area worked which is something you've always done in your videos to prove your point and to let the viewer see and judge for themselves. Why not this time?

      The reason that I didn't show a before and after was because the difference was not significant enough to see on film. I usually use a car that is jacked up beyond all repair. This car was not in that condition and it was the darkest color car that I had access to.

    • @Junkman2008
      @Junkman2008 8 років тому

      I have a ton of Infinite Use Detail Juice in my garage to use. But in reality, it doesn't matter who's detail spray you use. Detail spray is detail spray. Now cost factor is a different story.

    • @monkeykiss1988
      @monkeykiss1988 8 років тому

      What do you think of using something like CarPro Eraser or some other kind of IPA mixtures to remove compound/polishing residue? Would that be a better alternative then using a quick detail spray?
      I'm just a weekend warrior, but I'll leaning away from using a quick detail spray because it may hide defects as your compounding/polishing the vehicle. I think IPA or CarPro Eraser will do a better job of cleaning away the polishing residue giving you a better view of your results. Thoughts?

    • @Junkman2008
      @Junkman2008 8 років тому +2

      Monkey Kiss
      Thoughts? Yea, you're trying to make this rocket science. First, detail sprays don't "hide" anything. They ain't nothing but a VERY light cleaning agent in a bottle. You could make your own. Second, you can take a bottle of alcohol and mix it with 50% distilled water and make your own IPA. Quit overthinking this stuff man. It's NOT that complicated or needs to be that expensive. Have you seen most detailers today? They don't look like they are on the verge of splitting atoms do they? If this hobby was that complicated, I wouldn't waste my time at it. I like playing one type of video game. First person shooters. The kind where you kill anything that moves, screw the strategy. If I have to think while playing the game, I toss it in the trash.

    • @monkeykiss1988
      @monkeykiss1988 8 років тому

      LOL Rocket science? Nahh, just researching the best way to get things done. I don't want to be chasing my tail, so I ask questions.
      I have Meguiar's Quick Detailer spary and it states at the back of the bottle "The safe, high lubricity formula....while enhancing gloss and protection". The "enhancing gloss" part concerns me. I don't want to be "enhancing gloss" when compounding the clear coat. I want to remove polish residue so I can better inspect my progress and final result.
      Maybe I'm overthinking this stuff, but as a newbie I'm still learning. The CarPro Eraser cost as much as any detail spray. Why not bring out the big guns and use a product that will actually break down polish residue?
      Screw the strategy? Come on, that's the fun part. Don't tell me you never enjoyed a good game of Risk growing up. :)

    • @Junkman2008
      @Junkman2008 8 років тому +1

      Monkey Kiss
      I never played Risk. Couldn't afford anything but checkers. As for what your Meguiar's bottle of detail spray says, they are blowing smoke. Pretty much all of that over the counter garbage claims to do something that it doesn't. Don't believe the hype. Use the cheapest stuff you can find and don't expect it to do anything but be a clay lube or a pad spritzer.
