A friend lost her husband years before me, she moved into a new home, sparsely furnished. She shared she was only bringing things into this home that gave her joy. If something doesn’t give joy then time to let go. Do the cleanse you spoke of, find your joy and the rest will fall into place. Best wishes for this transition and continued success. Life is all about change, and change is so very difficult for we mere humans.
I know if i was living alone and working a pub, garage and weekend music venues, I would sell and move somewhere comfortable without a lot of work. Take time to recuperate and decide about my future. Best to you.
If I was in your place, and you've probably thought of this already, I'd get working roommates, who can help you renovate in exchange for a room. I'll bet there are people who would chomp at the bit to live in a chateau. It's a huge building to care for on one's own, and the land is a job on its own. Time to morve what ? Oh! I thought for a min. moving out all together. Yes your Camelias are pure delight! swell as the Bergenias (what you call Elefant ears), and one of my favortis are the Buddleya's who attract Butterflys and smell like pure Honey. Well, good continuation with classifying ...and moving out Stuff and cleaning up. You will feel so much lighter after that's all done. ; )

Being surrounded by unfinished projects can be unsettling. I moved my art studio to a different room and left any unfinished projects in my old space. I picked through them every few days, finishing what I wanted and getting rid of the rest. My new space has made me so much more creative, with nothing hanging over my head.
Living in southern Ontario where the soil is still frozen, I have to admit to a bit of garden envy when I see how many flowers you have blooming 🥴. Enjoy the beauty!

I'm a bit confused. I realize Angie left quite a long time ago. That revelation was, obviously, long in coming. Perhaps it's been addressed and I missed the episode, what happened to the bar? Are you still a co-owner? Is it still open? Are you still doing the music festivals at the Château? You said that you are moving. Do you mean moving on with your life or physically moving out of the château? If the latter, are you moving to the apartment above the bar?

I am leaving a huge old house I poured my heart and savings into for four years but sitting down and thinking of what I actually need going forward I am moving away from 7 empty guest rooms and a huge park that was draining my energy. A new chapter full of hope and more spare time and long walks with the dog and reading by the fireside. I was sad to see you alone and I wish you well from a good place to a better place, no regrets. Sounds like a very good plan, the château is very homely and you talk about it with affection, I think removing the things that need fixing or selling is a great idea and separating work from the chateau will help you enjoy coming home even more!
Mom and I did similar things. we cleared a room and if we didn't know or couldn't decide on a colour we painted the room white and filled it with furnishings we liked - we actually found that the white walls in those rooms worked the best. later we put up a bit of wall paper or painted an accent wall but left the rest white. Clean slate. Our living room currently is all white with blue curtains 2 blue chairs, a blue round foot stool, a cream leather sofa with burgundy throw cushions and a game table with a burgundy top and burgundy gold padded wooden chairs. there are odd splashes of blue, red and amber in artwork on the walls all framed in wood to match the wood tables and chairs. You will find your groove again and it will be a Home, fill it with the things that bring you comfort. Sometimes it all starts with a new Welcome Mat!

Hi Phil, when you said move, it brought me some sadness. I think you have a great idea, clear it out, make it a home and not a project. Then when the clutter is gone, your heart and your head can start to heal. Then the projects you have left to do just become part of owning a home, like most of us we are always, painting, or remodeling doing things as general upkeep, or just to change things up. It will seem more like fun and something new for your home, not a chore and an endless workload. Good luck on what comes next, I love how you don't make quick decisions, but think them through for what suits you best. Whatever you choose, if you will have us along we will be there. honestly, i’d sell up and buy yourself something which is more YOU and do it up, a rustic farmhouse or cottage, less stress, you will be so much happier , you have the pub etc pour yourself into that for events etc and start enjoying life again, you deserve your happy place phil ❤
Your house is to be a home, a place to relax and enjoy life. My husband passed away on December 7th of 2023. Any life change takes time. I am grateful when I come home to our home and our two dogs. Our son lives 50 yards away, so I am not really isolated, but at peace. Make decisions with a clear mind and you will know if it feels right. I know I will never move again, unless a fire or tornado takes the house away. God bless, we are going to be here.
