My friend asked me to play Elite with him when it came out. Apparently, I had logged about 80 hours, but stepped away due to not having the adequate time to really immerse in the world... 3 years ago, I got it for another pal and we messed around for about a week, but ended up not diving in... Now, in 2024, My kid graduated from college and I've found the time. I've only got about 700 hrs into it and I am Blown Away by the Scope of this Experience. I also have Star Citizen, but Elite just Feels Complete... Out in The Black is Serene and Beautiful to Behold. Cheers, Commanders!

Star Citizen has better graphics and ship interiors… but that novelty wears off quick because it’s an agonizingly bad experience to play still. Elite combat feels so much better and polished, along with a ton of other activities that just work like a finished game is supposed to work :). One day SC will probably be better, I my guess is that’s still multiple years away (even though they claim 1.0 soon.. but I have my doubts)

Elite Dangerous in VR is mind-blowing. Watching an asteroid explode or just passing by a star up close will keep you in the game for hours if you can stand the discomfort of the headset after all that time 😅

Just got my pc 7 days ago. Downloaded star citizen and joined the discord and met some great people whom I play with. The bugs and jank turned me away but I still hop on to help my friends enjoy their time with it. We usually get laughs out of the experience but in the back of my mind I would never spend money to continue to play it after free flight is over. It’s just not that good. They’ll never finish the game because they make a lot of money with the incomplete version and that’s ok because that’s their prerogative. Bought elite dangerous for 10 bucks on sale and absolutely fell in love with it. Better tutorial better AI and better combat. And I don’t need multiple people to have fun on it. Also way less bugs. So I spent money on it because it is very much a great game. I do wish elite had a food and thirst mechanic and that I can fly my ship in a better 3rd person mode and I do wish ground combat had leaning but those are just personal things. Other then that I say elite outclasses star citizen in many ways…… thank you

I really adore this game for the Background Simulation and Power Play. I love the idea of being part of something bigger, even if in reality it's maybe not that big of a deal as I like to make out. Really looking forward to the PowerPlay Overhaul they are releasing later this year.

Good summary once again, Cap. And fair. I played it years ago when it first came out and it brought back memories of the 1984 Commodor 64 classic, Starflight. Lots and lots of exploration but the difference was the Starflight was a single player game with a story with a good bit of humor. There wouldn't be an online space game until Stellar Emperor in '85 on CIS. But I digress. I like how you imagine the ideal audience for games. I think you nailed it with this one. I look for social interaction in online games and, thus, I was not the audience for this one 😉

@@CapnCrunchESO-I'd say best is currently the thargoid spire sites, by far. Not the easiest to get into though- (this has been fixed)
Mining is fine, especially if you like a relaxed way of doing it (at least the classic laser mining, the deep core mining requires more attention and activity). You want to research what is best to mine for profit though.

      @wstavis3135 Місяць тому +1

@CapnCrunchESO mining is good, combat is good, the thargoid war is good, bounty hunting is good, xenobiology is borderline ridiculously good if you apply yourself. All of the ways are more balanced now it seems. New mechanics coming on the BGS and Power Play which will see changes there and may open new avenues of income. The Thargoid war had a couple of ridiculous mechanics that made insane money possible which have finally been properly nerfed whereas other aspects of Thargoid combat have been buffed.

This game in VR is awesome, I play Solo only, I don't care about encountering players, so running around, exploring both in VR and on the Steam Deck... I just love the game for what it is. Not grinding, not engineering, just running around and enjoying the 'Cog in the machine' feel in the game. I took a break after Odyssey originally launched. And now being back, I truly enjoy this thing. Take it slow, let it immerse you into it's world and you'll enjoy your time in it :)

@octanejimmy I stay in VR, the grey box screen is big enough not to be overly annoying (gotta apply some cope of course) tho you can glitch yourself into the camera tool (guides on UA-cam) and you can be in full VR as well, of course with a bit of a limited control remaining over your character. So yeah, I personally stay in VR and either just stay on the flat screen mode for the shorter time I run around on foot or glitch into the camera tool if I am just walking about.

well for starters elite dangerous is actually a game at all instead of merely a gorgeous tech demo with game-like interactions haphazardly stapled to the side of it. i mean, i love star citizen, i play star citizen even to this day, but I'm not about to kid myself; it would be dishonest of me to try and sell it for anything it's not. Are model trains 'a game'? I submit that they are not. They're a hobby. Star Citizen is model trains in space, except they're ships and you can walk around inside them. There's no REAL goal, and nothing that looks like a story unless you squint, and no sense of progression except money. still fun though, and still gorgeous, but not a game. A once great space sim that is riddled with a game engine that is strapped with technical debt & unscalable for meaningful content DLC. The game has the best 1:1 Galaxy in gaming. Unfortunately , it's completely void of any types of game mechanics to further enhance the experience. Would love to come back & play this game , but the Star Citizen fever is just too hard to leave. My imagination is allowed to do more in that space sim than this one. Do I regret buying ED?? HELL NO!! I like others have outgrown the game & need more. They took most of the money they made on Elite, and poured it into their "Foundry" game studio. Which is now gone. At one time one of the best VR titles. Then they dropped VR support. They canceled all console support right after Odyssey came out. Frontier rebirthed the space sim genera, then watched it die.

I look up all the guides to find aliens or make money?
    NOTHING!
All the 3rd party tools like EDDB and INARA are abandoned and outdated..
    Find NOTHING!
mining for hours to make mere fractions of what i used to in 30 minutes. Massacre missions and exploits with wings is t only way too make back make money and its boring.. MADE NOTHING!
Oh.. let's not forget that the latest expansion Odyssey divides the players from Horizons the last update...
So I can't play with friends, multicrew.. the co-op feature does not work.. and when it does? People only use it for exploits and not to help people or get lost in a game..
The Expansions also have separate planets.. so while everyone is off killing Orthus Aliens for like 80 million per kill ez game
I go to the same planet? I can't even land on it to look for spires to kill the aliens...
JUST A LOT OF.. you guessed it.. NOTHING!
Combat is a joke for both good and bad players.. weapon balance is non-existent engineering breaks the game while making it more grindy..
DLC and future updates.. ONLY AVAILABLE ON PC
And honestly.. if I had a PC I would play Star Citizen instead.
