Astounding movie. A perfect work of art. I've love it since my first viewing on TV at the age of 8. I'm 51 now and its still one of those films that if its on I have to stop and watch it.. But I could say this about nearly all of Powell and Pressburger productions..
Was fortunate to see this movie and The Red Shoes almost annually when the local PBS station had it's biannual fund raising drive. We were treated to one or the other. In 1984, after my family bought our first VCR, I was fortunate to record both movies to enjoy at a moment's notice. It's no coincidence that my memories of watching this pair of classic films runs concurrent with, arguably, those memories of the years which were the best of my life. Oh, to only have appreciated it all more when it was happening.
Following the hospital ward ceiling going into the op/going under with the gas with the big eye lid coming down/ the burning bike after the accident - all brilliant 👍👍👍
Wish you included the bomber flying overhead after the shepherd boy scene, what's the phrase they use in the preamble? "Violently interrupted by war". But I suppose the only way to experience every great shot in this movie is to actually watch it, and I hope everyone here has or will.
