    Thanks Captain Myers. I’ve been cleaning my drags Wrong for 30+ years😑. I’ve been wiping All the grease off thinking it was excess from lubricating and would keep friction down,but also thought they should be smoother when I was finished. Ordering some Drag grease today. Thanks also for All your other videos, I’m really loving fly fishing and your instructions are the major reason why. Thank you! Fish On🎣

      Chris Myers I Know you are busy Chris but could you let me know if it's ok to use PENN grease? I have a container of the blue grease that comes on the reels from PENN.

      Pretty sure that is for internal parts not for the drag. I would use something that says drag grease. Something like this - www.ebay.com/p/Cals-CARBONTEX-Tan-Drag-Washer-and-Reel-Grease-1-2-Oz-15g/18003299655?iid=401347823009&chn=ps

      Thank you for taking the time to help out a fellow south Floridian.
      Tight lines Chris!

    What are your thoughts on felt vs carbon fiber drag washers?

    • @CaptChrisMyers
      @CaptChrisMyers  Рік тому

      Sorry, I can't help you with that one. I have always used whatever the manufacturer put in them. Don't think I have had a reel with felt washers for many years.

    Thanks Capt.
    I have a problem and have not fished much, in other words I am ignorant! I have an old spinning reel that has not been used (or touched) in years. The drag does not work at all. And the bail (sp) does not stay in same place, therefore I don’t know where is is to move it back for reeling line back in after casting. Same problem? Bail should stay where you leave it correct?

    So you put the lube on both carbon fiber and felt drags?

    • @CaptChrisMyers
      @CaptChrisMyers  3 роки тому +1

      I do as every reel I own had grease when it came from the factory. As I am not familiar with every type of reel, it is possible there are some drags that may not require it. I put it on all my Daiwa reels.

      The drag knob or shaft could be stripped or could be missing/worn out washers. Try to find a diagram online of your drag system and compare it to what you have, good luck!

    my problem is at 0:50 i cant take it off or put it on unless I twist it a bit and I think that is what causes it to not give drag??

    • @CaptChrisMyers

      Not sure what you are talking about. Take off what?

      @@CaptChrisMyers My spool, See how easy it is supposed to come off the reel. Well my spool won't come off my reel like 0:50 .. Mine is stuck n in order to remove the spool off the reel I need to twist it off and same to put it on.

    • @CaptChrisMyers
      @CaptChrisMyers  4 роки тому

      At least one of the metal washers between the drag washers has a flat part in the hole which will only fit on the spindle one way. You sometimes have to twist the spool to get it to line up correctly. I don;t think anything is wrong with you reel.

    I only watched this to find out how to put the drag knob at the front back on to the spool, tried turning both ways nothing is happening.

    • @CaptChrisMyers
      @CaptChrisMyers  5 років тому

      The drag knob turns clockwise to tighten. If it is not working, most likely you spool is not fully seated on the reel. Make sure the holes in the washers, some which are not round, line up so that the spool goes all the way down. Sometimes you have to turn the spool back and forth to get it to seat all the way.

      @@CaptChrisMyers Yeah that was the problem I needed to turn the spool to make it go down further, thanks.
