I have a 60 yr old fig tree at my house and I absolutely love the thing to death. Don’t be surprised by all the bugs when you get figs! They’re the natural pollinator of figs (called wasps look like little gnats). They don’t bother much though, make sure to get the figs before they’re purple or they’re for the bugs to procreate in!
@@DaneYT M8, gardener here, get rid of that plastic cover in the back. I know you don't want weeds to grow, but that plastic is literally there killing your fertile soil. Use cardboard instead, just plain cardboard from the supermarket with as little of a print on it as possible. The dehydrated plant you shown, is malnutrition-ed. The leaves show it. Why use cardboard, it disintegrates and the wood-chips on top of it, will let their nutrients penetrate into the soil itself. Making for healthier and stronger plants and trees. That plastic is either used for a weed free raised bed to plant veggies on already rich soil. Or as a bed for gravel to kill everything under it. It is a micrososm the soil, it's creatures, nutrients and it needs to breathe. Hope this helps m8, great journey you are on. Have a wonderful day.
@@DaneYTTheyre functionally digested by the fig and are completely safe to eat, worst case scenario is tiny quantities of undigested carapace but its nothing to worry about
Eating figs straight from the tree is like one of life’s most simplest, purest pleasures, especially when it’s hot out and the figs are delicious. Can’t be beaten.
I haven't played Hearthstone in 3 or 4 years, I haven't watched any HS content for at least 2 years, but as soon as I saw a garden update, I had to click.
Hey Dane, nice little food forest you got going there! If you want some suggestion for other cultivars, contact me, I got a small orchard going in Canada. Look into Haskaps (Boreal Blizzard and Beast), Dwarf Sour Cherries (Romance series), Asian Pear Tree (Taylor) and Saskatoon Berry (also known as Juneberry or Amelanchier).
I love seeing these videos, shows you have a life outside of Hearthstone 😆 at 05:16 - is that a loose bit of fence behind you? Just in case anything can get out or in your garden.
Forgive me I know he was talking about gardening but I didn’t catch a word he said there were some BIG distractions in my face couldn’t hear a word he said 👀

I've heard the enzymes in the figs break them down, or will I need to remove them before eating?
