Intervieweress -We are talking about a very prolific formation, probably.. this is the 9th album being released now. And the band is 20 years old. Now I am a bit perplexed, I am not sure how say it, because under the "band", basically we are referring to only you. As you are constantly surrounded by guest musicians.. So let's just define the genre a little bit first, there is everyhing in here .. This avantgarde metal, that Csiti (Interviewer dude) mentioned in the beginning too.. exactly what style would you define Thy Catafalque as? Tamás -So in the beginning we were a black metal band. And eventually the music has saturated, grown a lot. And there are so many things in it these days that it's hard to place it into any defined style, so they usually refer to it as avantgarde metal, but this only happens because there is no better definition for it. Csiti -And how did Martina get into the picture? Martina -Me? Intervieweress -Yes, there are two sides of the story.. tell us your version! Martina -This is a funny story, first I thought about making music with Tamás in 2015.. but then I didn't dare to contact him. Csiti -And where did you know him from? Martina -I didn't know him personally. I only knew of his work.. I am a Thy Catafalque fan. And I didn't dare to write him a message, cause "Who am I to contact him"? Then two years later, in February of 2017 I contacted him and I just simply asked him, whether he would like to make some music with me? But I didn't think that it's going to take place within Thy Catafalque, and I got the answer that "Of course! He is just working on the new album, and once it will be the turn to add the vocal tracks then he will send me the new tracks!" Intervieweress -I assume this quite a big surprise for a fan, when one's dream comes true! So you did great, and you did great too, because I think Martina's voice fits so well to this music! Tamás -Yes, but I actually knew her work beforehand as well, I knew and loved her band, Zombori, so it was a great addition for me as well. It made me happy very much. Csiti -And why did you exactly cover a Kalálka song? Tamás -I have known this song for a very long time, we listened to it a lot with my previous band GIRE.. and we tried, or though of making a cover for it, but we didn't have enough experience or.. the guts to do it. Intervieweress -And what did the members of Kalálka say about the cover? Have they heard the song? Tamás -Of course, first I asked permission in the very beginning, then they heard it, and Vilmos Gryllus wrote, that they liked it, both the song and the music video. Csiti -Now that you mention the music video, what inspired the music video? It's a beautiful video by the way. Tamás -Well, we didn't have an exact idea, I asked the video guys, what they have in mind.. I told them we would like some nature oriented music video, where we are not actually playing music, I didn't even want to be in the music video to begin with.. and they came up with the idea to go to the Bükk mountains, and we recorded the entire music video around Magos-kő in a single day. Intervieweress -Martina, how did you like the video shoot? Martina -Wow, I didn't even want to return from the shoot. There was a moment that we were standing in the forest, and I looked up and the leaves were falling majestically, I hugged a tree... and I felt that I would just yeah, stay here for good.. but unfortunately of course, we had to come back.. Intervieweress -But at least the music video remains, it has been documented and I think that this is a nice round story as such. Csiti -But how interesting, that Martina didn't want to return from the shoot.. and Tamás didn't want to show up there! Tamás -I was there. Intervieweress -Tell us about your new album! Tamás -It will be released in January, it's titled as Naiv, there are 9 tracks on it, a total of 47 minutes.. and I continute what I've done earlier... Intervieweress -So you will bring that AVANTGARDE METAL, that we are so used to from you. Tamás -Well, I'm not sure.. It's always interesting as there is always something new in it, and we also have some new instruments in it that we haven't used earlier.. and because of that maybe it has a bit of a different vibe.. Tamas you make beautiful music. I've been listening to Thy Catafalque since Rengeteg and just wanted to thank you. As I understand you don't have a lot of live concerts but if you did I'd love to see Thy Catafalque perform live here in Zagreb Croatia. It's not very far :)
