Last week was the start of 16th season of karting . 13 if them have done double duty as a track marshal. Still remember 1st red flagged session . Flew a kart in 2010 and remember it like yesterday . Back was a mess for 6 months and of course went back for more !! Things can get real ugly real fast . Got hit working once and thankfully tire barrier took most of the hit . Forgot to factor in that brakes and rain tires mean nothing in wet grass 😁🏁 . Hoping to get one more race in then work a 6 hour Enduro ! Not much beats the thrill of the race ! Have won and lost a few races on the last lap . The losses hurt for sure 💩
Scariest karting accident I ever saw was at eastern Creek a few years ago. Young kid doing about 110 K an hour brake disc explodes coming down the hill. The kart went straight across the sand hit the mound dirt which there was a 12 foot storm fence on top of it cleared the fence just clipping it on the way over landing upside down on the other side of the track as the karts are coming towards him I thought for sure he was dead I was the first one on the scene when I got there. I raised his visor and asked him how many fingers I was holding up which he was able to respond to. Then the so-called experts turned up and immediately tried to remove his helmet which is a big no no luckily for the kid involved he was sent to the hospital and returned about an hour later in time for the presentations with not a Mark on him.
I am a 11 yr old kid and when i was testing a brand new kart and engine i was going 80 kmh and i saw everyboyd going into the pits but then i decided to force myself inside and i spun out and hit the wall that seperates the pit and the main straight. I got a severe right hand injury so when i went to school the next day i was in agony while writing some stuff. Its my fault i crashed and i still have trauma to that crash
I’m entering outdoor karting at the end of the year so I have tabs on most races as soon as I heard a medical helicopter had arrived at Hooton I checked hoping everthing was ok glad it is now hope you doing well mate
Glad you're okay, and I hope you're recovering well. It's all too easy to underestimate karting and the dangers that come with Karting. Many years ago at Warden Law I was doing some private testing it had started to rain but only slightly, I'm not sure if you're familiar with Warden Law but turn 1 is a right hander and can be taken flat. I approached the corner and as I turned in nothing just massive understeer, I braked which put me into a spin. Back then the edge of turn 1 was cambered so as I left the track I spun 360 degrees in the air completely missing the gravel trap. I came to rest hitting the tyre wall side on, I was severely winded. I broke two ribs and ruptured my diaphragm. Three weeks of agony.
Hope you recover well and return to racing soon. Went through similar with Jensen Pughe at Whilton Mill, 24 October 2021 . Air lifted to Coventry Trauma Hospital with a broken right femur. First thing he asked the surgeon was “ when can I go racing again”!!!!!
Been two stroke karting for 20 years. Karts race so close it's so easy to get into a tangle then being hurled into the tyres. Sometimes you don't get enough time to brace for the impact. Great news you wasn't seriously injured. We dust ourselves down and go again 😉
I know that one ! I just thought I really screwed up . When grabbed steering wheel to pull kart out of tires then figured out what happened . Was flagging a race and a guy clipped a kart that spun. The kart did cartwheels the driver was ejected and his kart ended up upside down balanced steering wheel to steering wheel of another kart 🤯 . Guy got a bit of road rash from his arm being stuck under him as he slid across track . If you check out Flying Go Kart Overtake and was at end of fence when kart hit the ground . Flying a kart not bad until gravity takes over ! Back was a mess for 6 months and if course went back for more !! We have Canadian winter to heal up ! Woke up one day mid January and pain free ! Except the pain of no racing ☹️😁🤣🏁
I’m 12 and during a race my brakes on my kart jammed and when I pressed them the kart would go faster I ended up hitting a metal barrier at 70km/ my fuel spread a long the track and my kart and the track set on fire. I passed out and woke up in the hospital with a neck injury. I couldn’t go to school for a month because I could not think properly. Now I’m always scared whenever I go karting.
Well I hope you ok and I would like to say ima go through the same thing if I can’t get my self to pull myself away from this stuff but it’s something my life I always want to do
A lot of people don't realize how dangerous racing is. You have a chance of getting hurt, or killed. But think about how cool that is.
