    Hi Jim, Great video and just what I needed. I recently installed the trial version of Excire and found their tutorial very basic, rushed and with distracting background music. I asked Excire if they could point me to a narrated video and they only had a german language version with subtitles placed over the content. A couple of days later, Excire sent me links to your videos on the software and this is the first one I have watched. You have made using the software look straight forward with detailed explanations of what the features do. This has made it much more viable for me and I am also grateful to Excire for listening to what I had to say about the tutorials supplied with it. I will now watch you other Excire videos! Thanks again.

    Hi Jim; I don't know if you still use LrC as your DAM or not. I have a question, the lrplugin version of Excire does not do duplicate searching. If I use the standalone version and use either the reject flag or maybe a red color label does Excire store that in the image/metadata, or is it unique to Excire. I was hoping if it's tied to the image, when I reload LrC I could pull up those rejected or red images to delete them properly from the disk and catalog.

    • @marcrjacobs
      @marcrjacobs 2 роки тому +1

      I was able to answer my own question. The Reject flag does NOT go back to LrC, but a color flag does. I set a photo to Red and Rejected in Excire while LrC was running. After those settings in Excire, go to Menu > Photo > Store metadata. Back in LrC, right-click on the same photo and Metadata > Read Metadata from File. The color comes through, but the Reject did not. In any case, people that are still in LrC, can use the standalone Excire to find the duplicates, set the color flag and exit Excire. In LrC, filter by Attribute and the color you chose in Excire. That, will load your duplicates.

    in the flagging assistant, it lets you flag JPG's by oldest or latest, but doesn't allow the same for RAWs?

    I wish the software could provide a simple way to remove exact duplicates in bulk with one command rather than having to tag every one of a duplicate pair.

    In Excire Foto 2022 looking for exact duplicates, they appear on the results screen with the duplicates of the same photo side by side (where I can choose one to keep) and a vertical column of all the different sets of duplicate files. To delete duplicates I click on the one I want to delete scroll down to the next photo in the column and holding down the Ctrl key click on the one in that group I want to delete. With a lot of duplicates to cull, this is a rather slow way but it works. Is there a way that would be faster? For example, If all the duplicates are on the left side of the column is there a way to click all of them at once rather than having to scroll down, clicking the one to delete in each set? With 1000 duplicates (or near duplicates) that is a lot of scrolling and clicking.

    After your Excire-Luminar review video I have just bought Excire Foto (The Luminar 25% discount had expired by the time I finished my 14 day trial and they wouldn't give any discount). and have exactly the same issue as Allen Round below. Would have thought the Software would have had a way of deleting one or more of the exact matches. I have 2,000 exact duplicates, some two, some three and some four. I had assumed the Flagging assistant would allow me to keep one copy of each duplicate set and flag as reject the other one, two or three identical images. Can't figure out how to do it. Am I missing something? I did bring up a few issues with Excire Foto from my trial period, but they have never answered my specific queries.

    But why is there no way to get the flagging assistant to select all of the duplicate photos in a group but one? Look at 06:57 in the video. The only choices that you have are to flag every raw or none. You can't tell Excire to flag or delete all but one in any group regardless of size. Only option is to flag them yourself manually!

    Hi Jim, I installed Excire Photo a month ago based on your advice. No regrets, it's great! I ran into a problem, though, when I installed the first update. The installation of the update completely wiped all my rating stars, colour tags etc. A real pain to have to redo ratings and tags. Now there's another update and I want to ensure that I keep all the tag, star ratings etc and don't wipe them again. Any advice on how to update without losing all that valuable rating, star colour etc stuff. I'm holding on installing the latest until I'm sure of no data loss.
    Just to close out on this, I think I got it sorted. Basically, before installing an update, the user has to find the database containing all the image data, tags, etc then copy that database to another location on the PC. Then run the update, followed by directing the update to the new database location. It works, but it's not very user friendly for such great software. There must be a more elegant way of updating Excire which will draw from the existing database. For now, it works...

    If you want to search specific folders for duplicate and move the chosen accepted and/or rejected pic to new designated folders, don’t use Excire Foto. The folders that you move the files to are added to the original search for duplicate task even though you haven’t specified the folders there. I.e., the program automatically adds the newly created folders to the original task, and with the result you have exactly the same duplicates to work with as you had in the beginning and you don’t know which you have taken care of and moved out of the original search and folder. If you are not careful, you can end up with ruin your photo database.

    How can you seriously recommend such bad software? In my extensive tests with a wide variety of motifs, the hit rate with at least one correct keyword was 30%. Another 30% contained no keywords or only incorrect keywords. In less than 10% of all analysed images, the assigned keywords were correct but incomplete.
    Conclusion: the effort to check and correct the keywords after the Excire analysis is higher than to add keywords natively to images, e.g. in Lightroom. I also miss an intelligent hierarchical keyword assignment. In my opinion, the product is still very much in need of optimisation.

      Samuel. I tend to agree with you. It's great at finding anything to do with people but not so good on other areas. I feel it is quite a good tool, but overpriced for its features. Brought up a few concerns with Excire Foto support but they have not got back to me yet with specific answers (6 days ago). They did respond promptly to a request for a sample image which had been keyword through Excire Foto so that I could check it imported fine into Apple Photos with all the keywords, which it did.
