    Really good tips Jim! You could probably do many more of these videos. I'm glad Neo has a proper way to load custom LUTs now. It was such a pain in Luminar AI! Also, I didn't know that you had to click the "place center" button again for the vignette! I always just clicked it once, selected a center, the wondered why it wasn't working...

      Hi Derek and thanks. Best bet in those situations is to bracket some shots, at least 5 for the full dynamic range of interior and exterior lighting. At least, that is my preference. You could also just take two exposures and blend them. Thanks.

    Tip number 11-carry a few Melita coffee filters with you. They’re available anywhere and you can always take a shot with one of them in it and have something to white balance on with the eyedropper. This is a cinematographers trick.
    Tip number 12-do what I did and spend $1000 on a computer with a Ryzen chip in it my copy of Neo works a lot better now.
    Great tips Jim!

    Hi Jim. Thanks for all the great help videos for Luminar NEO. I have a question. I thought I read somewhere that Neo would be getting a clone and stamp tool in either the last update or the one that came out today. If it's there, I can't find it. Just curious to know if I got it wrong or if I'm just missing it.
    Thanks

    Again great video and useful tips....ONE question. WHY does Luminar NEO opens SOME (only some and it seems randomly??) opens Sony RAW files in the EDIT platform NOT with the Development RAW option (in order to apply a camera profile. I even tried to delete the various RAW photos and downloaded them again from the camera and STILL the RAW option in the Development module does NOT appear, while in other RAW photo files in the SAME folder DO open in the EDIT platform WITH the RAW option in the Development module?? Very strange and have you noticed that as well? IF so do you have some remedies so that I CAN get the RAW option in the Development module? Thanks for your feedback

  • @michaelroach3553

    I've tried my hardest to find a use case for this software, but I just can't. I shoot real estate and I was looking forward to it for HDR Merging. Long story short, it's virtually unusable for any volume. 1 or 2 photos? Not bad but time consuming.
    Through lightroom, you have to create tiffs, then import / export from Neo after combining. If you pull the raws with Neo, you can't apply profile corrections before HDR merge. That doesn't sound horrible until you realize how bad a 16mm interior looks without profile corrections lol. You can't even run HDR merge while using it as a plug-in from Lightroom.
    It's sad because the actual HDR merges look good, but the integration is terrible. If you're looking for a usable solution, I'd recommend just going with Aurora or hand-blended brackets in Photoshop.

    • @JimNix
      @JimNix  Рік тому

      Thanks Michael and I totally get that. I am hopeful that things like this get addressed, since it is v1 of HDR Merge. But we will see. I do edit images one at a time so none of this is a problem for me, but yes I can see with real estate this would be a big challenge. Thanks.

    Why does Luminar Neo not export a DNG file? (Or am I missing it?) What actually is the difference in a Tiff/Psd and a Dng file?

  • @phillewis2524
    @phillewis2524 Рік тому

    Jim, thanks for the tips. I have been trying to figure out something and maybe you can help. I frequently need to do perspective correction to adjust the horizontal or vertical alignment of a photo. In Luminar 4 and Aurora there are controls to make such adjustments ( to tilt the photo around the horizontal or vertical axis). If you click on the Layers window in Luminar NEO, a box with 4 control points in the corners comes up but the only thing you seem to be able to do with it is alter the aspect ratio of the photo. I can't see a way to tilt the picture around the horizontal or vertical axis as I used to be able to do with those controls I mentioned in Luminar 4 and Aurora. Am I just missing something or does that functionality not exist in Luminar NEO?

    • @alangauld6079

      Might be the lens corrections in the develop module is what you want?

    • @phillewis2524
      @phillewis2524 Рік тому

      @@alangauld6079 The lens correction is not what I am looking for. However in taking a look at the Develop module again I noticed that somewhere along the way in one of the updates a TRANSFORM function was added in one of the updates. I haven't had a chance to play with it but it looks like it contains the functions I was asking about. Thanks for prompting me to take a second look.

    • @alangauld6079
      @alangauld6079 Рік тому +1

      @@phillewis2524 Sorry, the transform was the one I meant, I thought it was actually a sub-module of the lens correction because it's just below it...

    Can Neo lut’s be used in Lightroom

    • @JimNix
      @JimNix  Рік тому

      As far as I know LR does support LUTs, so if you can locate the folder in Neo that holds the LUTs, theoretically you could make a copy of them and use them elsewhere, but I have not tried this. I think that is what you are asking?

    How do you use Luminar Neo to create those soft, dreamy, almost painted looking pictures?

    • @JimNix
      @JimNix  Рік тому +1

      Well there are lots of things you can do in Luminar, but for soft and dreamy (at least how I imagine it), I would use negative Structure AI to reduce sharpness and possibly try Orton or Glow as well as Mystical. Those things should get you going in the right direction. Thanks.
