- The second record, and debuting album from this previous duo, turned into a solo act.
Originally a two-piece band, Marquesse has transformed into a solo project for this debut album, “Reveries of Desolation”. This shift hasn't hindered the music's quality, and the artist has crafted a compelling record that builds upon the foundation laid in their earlier EP.
While the opening might seem slow to some listeners, it serves a purpose. The music steadily builds momentum throughout the album, culminating in a satisfying and powerful conclusion. This trajectory showcases a clear evolution from the earlier EP, demonstrating a more refined approach to songwriting.
The guitars are the driving force behind “Reveries of Desolation”, delivering ferocious energy that keeps the listener engaged, as the other instruments provide a strong foundation, creating a well-rounded soundscape.
The songwriting on this album is a clear strength. Marquesse excels at crafting a sense of desolation and epic grandeur. This atmosphere is somehow reminiscent of what Sanguine Relic could achieve with a cleaner production, offering a more accessible entry point for black metal newcomers without sacrificing the core elements of this genre.
