Great information. I've had trouble landing my Avanti, it's different than any other plane I have landed.
Thanks. I hope this helps. A lot more information coming in Parts 2-6.
Great video Greg!
Definitely bought up some things I consistently overlook landing my Avanti. Mike M
Thanks! That's one of the reasons I made this series. To remind myself what I need to be aware of while landing. It's easy to just follow the same approach every time, but it needs to change depending on conditions. The rest of the series gets into all of that.
Hi I love your landings, some of the best glide slope angles i have seen, will try your suggestions, I also have learned a few new things through your teaching style, Thanx.
Thanks! Glad you find it helpful. I'm still learning, too!
Fantastic video!
Thanks!
Correction: The ground CG test shown here is valid for the Avanti, but it's not a reliable method for all RC aircraft. Consult your manual for the proper CG location.
One thing I failed to mention in the video is my flap to elevator mix. That mix is completely separate from elevator trim and independent of flight mode. The flap to elevator mix is activated automatically any time the flaps are lowered. That mix is set up in Normal flight mode to prevent ballooning when the flaps are lowered at typical pattern speeds (below 40 kts for the Avanti). That is done first. Then Landing Mode is switched On and the elevator is trimmed for best speed on approach. That trim setting is saved in Landing Mode and only activated when switching to that flight mode.
Thanks for these thorough tutorials - liked and subscribed! Impressed with your instrumentation and other aspects of the presentation. Have you made video(s) of the sensors you use, how the data is communicated while flying, and how you display the data on video?
Thanks for the feedback. The series was a lot of work to produce, so I appreciate your comment. I haven't made a behind the scenes video of the sensors and telemetry data yet, but I have considered making one. A few people have asked about it. It is a bit daunting at first.
The sensors should be listed in the description. They are all FrSky. I get continuous voice callouts for airspeed during the landing phase (LDG Mode ON), altitude only when I drop the gear, and voltage alerts only when cautionary or critical. The remaining telemetry is logged along with the above and saved as a csv file. That is synced up with the video in Dashware, which is available for free on the web (last I checked). In Dashware you can use stock instruments or make your own. Once everything is setup you can save the instrument panel as a template for the specific plane that you collected telemetry from, so it's much easier the next time. That's it!
Love it!!! Keep em coming.
Thanks! Will do.
Very well done, cannot wait for more.....I can really use it! LOL
Thanks! We all start there, and the learning never ends. I hope it helps.
Whats up Greg
I'm impressed 👍👍👍👍
@@gwrrolan Thanks! But this part is the least exciting one in the series. It gets better!
Excellent video. Reminds me of full scale flight school :).. Looking forward to Part 2
Thanks! I hope to finish one a week until they're all done.
Curious what your half and full flap settings are in degrees or millimeters. Also, do you use your flight mode switch as Pos0 being normal flight, Pos1 being 1/2 flap and Pos2 being full flap?
@@floating1351 Full flaps throw is 40 mm. I think 1/2 flaps is per the manual. I'll have to check that. That would have been good to include in setup! Mode switch (3 position) is independent of the flap switch. Normal Mode is middle, Landing Mode is down.
It's a great video regardless! 1/2 flap per the manual is 23mm. If you find different, please let us know. Do you mean your landing mode operates independent of both a flaps and a gear switch? Personally, I was thinking of setting a mode switch to always include flaps while having a separate switch for gear. Thoughts?
@@floating1351 Mine is independent of both gear and flaps. That allows me to do a slow pass with gear and flaps up in Landing Mode, so it's pre-trimmed for that speed. If you like to retract gear and flaps after a touch and go, but want to remain in the pattern, you might want to stay in L.M. as well. Other than that, it would work well on a gear or flap switch.
Great series of videos! I happen to have the same Avanti that you do. Which radio transmitter do you use to fly it? How do you set up the additional landing mode in your system?
Do you perhaps have a profile on RCG or similar?
Great Job, Can you tell me if your airspeed sensor who make it.
Thanks! It's a FrSky airspeed sensor, ASS-70.
Could you tell me what camera mount you are using? Where you got it?
It's velcro: two pieces attached to the fuse, just forward of the stab leading edge, and two pieces attached to a Mobius.
