Macready was a solid actor, good in everything he did. Probably not as well known as he should have been, but he did have a prolific career on stage and in movies and had a lot of fans that enjoyed his work. What more could you ask for.

Wow, this was a good one. Despite being able to guess the murderer, he came up with some tricky, creepy tactics. Thanks Classic Treasures and You Tube! 😊

Despite the sometimes poorly written dialogue the great director Budd Boetticher gives this B movie some real off kilter mood and tension; the oddness that was heightened in his later masterpieces! Dont look for obvious flubs, get into this world - it is very entertaining.

Well, I tried. The acting is terrible, Bentley's true identity is obvious once you notice the scar on his cheek, Alice getting into Wharton's car without a scream or a fight is unrealistic...too many flaws.

*THX* Classic Treasures for this clever, fairly unique, and "mildly twisted" *Whodunnit....!!!*
Janis Carter in a rare "benevolent" role, with _Business As Usual_ for menacing George Macready. 👌
This film had the general style of a 1930s crime mystery, and actually felt more like a TV series.... 👀

Hint when casting a who done it do not use an actor that always plays the bad guy.

The moment they mentioned that the body was "burnt beyond recognition", you ought to suspect that it's not who they're implying it to be.

Really prefer films of the 30s an 40s. Even those of B category. Never cared for modern films "reproducing" that period. Just don't ring true. Super clean and clear print.

No surprises here. The plot, including the ending, telegraphed itself very early on. Macready tries hard, as usual, to overcome poor writing, but even his skill can't save this simple nonsense.

in the first couple of minutes a guy sits at the counter and says to the guy at eh table(I haven't established who they are just yet) anyway he says to the guy at the table tucking into a hearty breakfast "Still digging your grave with a knife and Fork, must be down pretty deep by now" then the guy with the BIG MOUTH has a coffee and a cigarette for breakfast?🤣🤣🤣 More subliminal advertising of how "healthy" cigarettes are, in reality they were all complicit in mass murder but that's another story, I was just amused at the comment of eating breakfast with a knife and fork was unhealthy and conversely the implication was the coffee and tobacco must be healthy🤣🤣🤣

It was an ok movie, but not great. Even a blind person could tell mcready was playing both parts. And the newspaper guy had to be dumb, he saw when he was released, the voice is the same, even the so called disguise is obvious. As for the guy burned in the hospital, they had dental identity back then.
