The literal tearing down of my classroom always frustrated me. I would have to tear down all my students’ beautiful work, put the desks back into rows, and make my once “homey” classroom a sterile environment. The kids hated it. I hated it.

If i were ever a teacher,id make those test days movie/game days when kids are done testing and the "study periods" we had in middle through highschool, social development period, where they play coorpative board games/sports games that build social skills. People are conditioned into not asking around for help and fail to find good paying jobs due to poor social skills.

I think a lot of teachers try to give students a relaxing/fun atmosphere to balance out the tests. the poor babies absolutely need a movie day after working so hard

It has gotten so much more intense since I was a kid. State testing early elementary school kids?! It's such a silly way to measure whether the [wildly underfunded] system is working

I teach in NC and the EOGs are AWFUL. They take at least 2 hours and the average 10 year old has an attention span that lasts about 20-30 minutes.
Some of the math questions are asking for kids to determine which equation would best represent the problem!!!! That is algebra! An 11 year old doesn't need to know algebra. If it just asked them to get to an answer I would feel differently.
Kids and parents kept asking me if their kid will be held back if they don't pass. Which they won't.
The amount of standards needed to be taught in a year are astronomical and because of tests teachers try to rush through it.
What I have learned recently is that parents can opt out. I wish I knew a way to share this information without jeopardizing my job.
If I was a parent, I would write a letter to the school and then keep my kid home on those days. Then tell all the other parents while handing them a copy of the letter to use. I think we need to start truly fighting back and the parents are the ones who need to start.

"You can't pull yourself up by your bootstraps if you don't have boots"- TRUTH. Solid video as usual Natalie. Standardized testing needs to be revised, especially when it comes to our littles.

I took the EOG test in NC during third grade in 2014. Had no idea the stakes were so high. I moved states for 4th grade before I could learn the results. Maybe a I failed

@@PrimaryFocus “The new plan will reduce the state’s reliance on standardized testing and will implement online testing, adopting question types that allow students to use methods they are familiar with, and developing a free, optional benchmark assessment tool for schools to help educators better understand whether students are on track to succeed.” I’ll site my source in the next comment 😉 I don’t know if what they are implementing will be helpful but it’s better than nothing?
