Idk about your laws but here in Canada your pharmacist can handle all of that. They can change your dosage if needed or give you more if you’re going away on vacation for example. I’ve been in this situation plenty of times with my grandma and they’ve always just refilled it again if there was a valid reason. Never needed to go to my doctor
The pharmacist could give them enough for a couple of days. They are allowed to do that. Also, they can contact the doctor themselves. If the doctor denies without a prescription, then they have to go into the doctor.
They can probably loan some as another comment said. They can definitely contact the doctor or try to. Ultimately in the US, pharmacists may be able to even deny a medication - usually controlled substances - even if your doctor has sent a prescription for it. But they cannot just fill out a medication that’s not sent

Im Bipolar , and honestly we do get haywire without them. I ran out of my medication and it’s been very bad. It’s like night and day, you loose yourself and all the emotions you can’t control or understand come to the surface quickly all at once
I work with a guy who we all suspect is bipolar. He'll go off work for months at a time, return and be totally even keeled. Best we can figure is he quits taking them after about 3 months because he's 'better' and within a few days he is completely out of control. Goes from completely calm to absolutely losing his shit within minutes. Makes up stories about people, acts like everyone is out to slight him somehow, throwing shit, etc. That goes on for about a month and then he is back off work again. Its really sad, because when he comes back for that first little while, hes a really decent guy.
Honestly i wish there wasn’t this “Bipolar people need meds” stigma, i am bipolar and as i can’t get meds i have to deal with it on my own. It is tremendously hard but i deal with it as well as i can, meds are not the only solution like the doctors say sometimes you just have to ride the mania out in a safe space. I understand meds work for plenty but for some meds make the mental illness worse, and thats me i can’t take bipolar medication cause then it makes the depression and anxiety worse because of side effects. Medication is good but not all Bipolar people need it, some of us just need therapy and natural solutions.
I'm "situationally bipolar" and don't meet the criteria, but my trauma response looks like mania because I run around trying to make sure everything is all Gucci. It's amazing to me that people can manage this disease, I'm seriously so impressed. However you're surviving and thriving is literally awesome ❤

They don't have insurance they're poor. Plus Ian got those meds after being in the psych ward and its a temporary subscription till aftercare is set up but they can't afford that. So there's quite literally no one they can call to get a refill

The pharmacist is correct I worked at a pharmacy and we can just fill meds anytime we want. We can do emergency supplies on certain meds but those only last like 3 days
Once, I lost my ADHD medicine and my pharmacy replaced it for me. No issues. Just called and told them. Granted, I had to pay for it out-of-pocket, but there were no issues. I eventually found my ADHD medication. I was able to have them hold off on refilling the meds until I actually needed another refill since they refilled my medication early. It worked out good. I don’t take lithium. I know that does make a difference though.
Your particular situation is never worth someone losing their job or going to jail over, go through the right process first and you’ll get what you need

They hadn't set up aftercare yet because they had no insurance so they had no doctor to contact. His sister was planning to take him to a free clinic when the prescription ran out but he flushed them and was resisting diagnosis so was refusing to go with her. He eventually agreed to visit the clinic after a psychotic episode and got a new prescription

It was was Friday afternoon, so the pharmacist approved a three day supply to last me until I could get another script called in on Monday. Medications like that can't just be stopped if you you you've been on them for awhile. One time I did and almost ended up in a hospital. Never again after that!
