Yikes. Beauty pageant judges should not be served hard liquor prior to them having to make decisions that require logic.

Miss Red Deer or Toronto could have easily put Canada back in the top semi-finalists at Miss Universe that year. I remember back in 1984 when Cynthia Kereluk won, I remember saying out loud - "Well.....there goes Canada's chance of placing at Miss Universe". And I was right. After some incredible choices as Miss Canada in 1980, 81, 82 and 83, 1984's choice fell completely flat. Canada, once again came back strong with Karen Tilley in 1985 but 1984 was the worst choice for Miss Canada probably in the entire decade.
Galileocan 1986 Rene Newhouse was also a horrendous selection. Canada blew so many chances in the 80s. I sometimes ask myself what the hell they were thinking?
