What a great idea, always wondered what the hair-tie was for. Alternatively, on a fretless you can thump the harmonics above the 24th 'fret' with your right hand, does the same thing. Probably works on a fretted as well. Try it, you can tap all the harmonics above 24 while you play, even do entire harmonic melodies over the top of your main part.

Robbie J Yeah, the great Stanley Clarke invented the tenor bass around 1979 -1980 to move his sound away from the synth bass which became popular around that time.

I've been playing bass and a big fan of this man for 22 years and I've never seen anything like this
I just did it on upright by cutting 2 hairties and trying them back together around the strings
Can't wait to throw a distortion ped on next and see what's up. So simple yet mind-blowingly innovative

Amazing cat. I've heard and seen him play several times, solo and with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Mesmerizing, especially to fellow bassists. I ran into him with his wife and child walking around Ann Arbor MI many years ago before a gig he played downtown there. What a nice guy.

With all due respect sir, I am a guitar player who switched over to bass because I have more fun slapping a bass... Also. If you press your thumb and pointer finger together at a 90 degree angle, you can replicate a guitar pick and pull off pinch harmonics on a bass when you want it and not just all the time. You're still the Guru of bass brother! Much love.

Unfortunately I don't play bass, but bc it was between me & him... I wanted to check it out. Glad I did, time to eat: Pizza, chips, drink juice, sit on the floor & watch Terminator 3 & chill.
