I agree about Rondo of Blood not being on this Collection; but I guess they are saving it for when they RE-RE release Sympony of the Night with Rondo of Blood (hopefully they add some other 2D castle vainia games like the Wii one or another custom made one). I too agree that the screen option filters and size options are lame, compared to what could have been included. Also great voice over narration of Super Castlevaina's opening! XD
I hope they'll add that remake in the other collections. But I want as many filter options as I can get. Emulators have some great ones.. the more the better.
Castlevania 3 has always been my favorite of the “Classicvania” style of games. Super Castlevania 4 is actually one of my least favorites of the older games (I finder it better than Simon’s Quest, the Game Boy games, and Dracula X but I’d play CV 1, 3, Bloodlines, or Rondo over SC4). That said it’s still a great game. As for the Netflix show, I think it’s pretty cool. It’s a little weird and some of the dialogue sounds like a 4th grader wrote it trying to be edgy lol. I like that they borrowed some of the Curse of Darkness lore which I wasn’t expecting. Isaac and Hector were the two best characters in the show.
I was fine with the first and second season (which is really just one season story wise), I enjoyed the fight to bloody tears, but really hated the rest of it.
@@FlagsonFire yeah Season 3 is a complete waste of a season lol. Season 4 was considerably better than 3 but still not as good as the first two seasons.
I'm just waiting for the 3D Collection of Castlevania 64/Legacy of Darkness, Curse of Darkness & Lament of Innocence. Maybe they'll randomly throw in Rondo of Blood or Symphonly of the Night, but if I'm not mistaken, Rondo and Symphony is on something called Castlevania Requiem, which is only on the PS4.
I recently bought this at discount on the switch. Havent even checked the scan lines all that. Doesnt bug me as much. First game i played on here was Castlevania 4. Because i havent played it and i wanted to. Anyway i played through that then played Simon's quest, again because i havent played it and I've got to say, i really enjoyed it. I like the music and that its different in a way. I can see why some wouldnt like it. The map is a bit of a mess. The locations of the Mansions. And there not being much bosses. Either they forgot to add them or its because they were already vanquished
I know most will disagree, but I grew up with CRT's so Scanline makes the game feel more natural, it lets me down sometimes they get em wrong but the game just does not look right without them.
I "grew up" with the First Four Castlevania Games; I'm sorry they couldn't find, include, or port Castlevania Chronicles, Lament of Innocence, Curse of Darkness, and Lords Of Shadow 1 and 2 to this Great Anthology. I enjoyed the challenge each game gave me and the glory of completion plus unlocking the extras of these games.
Play the Japanese version of Castlevania 4. It's bloodier, and has crosses. The Japanese version of SotN is better too. Item placement is slightly different, and the dialog sounds better. Also the good priest ghost in the chapel says a blessing over you.
All the Castlevania Collections are fantastic, especially on Switch, but if I had a complaint? Why choose THAT version of Bloody Tears as the Menu Theme?
Thing is: Rondo of Blood was already included in the Playstation-Exclusive "Castlevania Requiem Collection" together with SotN, so that is probably the reason they didn't include it in this collection. "Dracula X" was included in the Advance Collection a couple of years later as a Bonus-Game. The real crime to me is that they never ported the Requiem-Collection over to the other consoles. But i suppose there was some sort of contractual obligation towards sony not to release it on other systems (sadly). Other than that: love the collection, even got the Limited Run Physical Release on Switch, nice Video on your part.

Sony paid for the port of Symphony of the Night and Rondo of Blood, which is why Requiem isn’t on Steam or other consoles. They are actually the PSP versions running in Sony’s PSP emulator that they built for PS4. For some odd reason the 2.5 Remake of Rondo of Blood wasn’t included in the package, which sucks because I liked that version with the new cut scenes and everything. I liked playing both versions of Rondo on my PSP. There was no reason not to include the remake of mode since these are just the PSP versions running a PSP emulator lol.
@@alutra It’s not my fault Konami made a collection containing all the 8bit/16bit Castlevania games EXCEPT ONE. Maybe they should have thought of that before releasing requiem. It's technically a remake and not a port because of the slight differences and added content, but Rondo of Blood never released outside Japan and they aren't different enough to truly count as different games (even if technically they are separate releases).
Two reasons. The first being the release of Castlevania Requiem in 2018 and there maybe being an agreement over that release with Sony as it is still exclusive (which would also explain Rondo being missing). The other is that this collection focuses on the 8bit and 16bit games.
It is weird Ronaldo of blood isn't in it. Did they fix Simon's quest? Because the American version sucks. The translation wasjust horrible. Fans fixed it later down the line. But i know this company isn't using the fan translations
My verdict: Definitely play Castlevania 1, 3, Super Castlevania IV, Castlevania: Bloodlines, and Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge. Avoid Simon's Quest and The Castlevania Adventure. Kid Dracula is interesting as a official parody game. Definitely check out the Japanese versions included in the collection to see the regional differences: especially Castlevania 3 because it features an enhanced soundtrack for the Famicom via the VRC6 audio chip.
I understand that it probably comes down to an age thing, but Castlevania III is altogether a better video game than Super Castlevania IV. At least AVGN agrees with you. But, in closing, I will add that the Castlevania Netflix series, which we can all agree is bad-the-fuck-ass, is based on Castlevania III, so suck it, lol.
I am completely fine with saying Castlevania III is better than IV. Reasonable opinion. HOWEVER, suggesting that the anime is great is something I CANNOT BE ASSOCIATED WITH. @@hironobu64 Valid points, but for the reason it's insane for me is because they did it MULTIPLE times in a Castlevania show. Old Castlevania is somehow both the most sexless thing to contain vampires and have originated in the 80s. There are loads of things I dislike about the show but this is just an example of something they did and didn't do that communicated that the showrunners perceive a VERY different Castlevania than I know.
