    Cameras inside of an Airbnb are a total no-no in my opinion, whatever the type and reasons for having them. And so are active speakers. Both give off a very creepy vibe to me. But quite a lot of people seem to think that being potentially (or even clearly) surveilled is just something one must accept as a fact of life, which I find incredible.

      I couldn't agree more! Beside the fact that they're against AirBNB ToS, it's just illegal. I considered reporting it to the Spanish police, but I didn't think we'd be around long enough to see it through. This experience has really put us off against using AirBNBs.

      Im staying in an Airbnb with cameras in all “common areas” apparently. The host has told me herself she watches everything. The door also has an alarm that alerts her anytime it is locked or un locked. She’s constantly in my business. Unfortunately, I can’t leave right now due to to personal issues.

    Urgh, sorry to hear that. I've been to Scotland two years ago and had just the WORST experience as well. Our host didn't show up until well after two hours after we got there, the apartment itself wasn't clean at all and - worst part - the appartment was for sale and they let people see it while we were there!! It was my first Air BNB experience and I never, EVER want to go to one ever again to be honest!

    • @LuckyDippers
      @LuckyDippers  5 років тому +1

      Wow!!! That sounds horrible! One thing I've learned from the experience is that AirBNB is actually pretty responsive to issues. I've had to use them twice in 25 AirBNBs and both times they were more than generous. I do understand not being comfortable with them though - it just leaves a bad taste in your mouth. If it weren't so expensive, I'd stay in hotels all the time!

      @@LuckyDippers I just had the worst experience ever via Airbnb...never used them before, but used Home Away in the past. Home Away had much better customer service. We booked a private apartment in Virginia Beach, but when we got there it was not private. The hosts said we only had to share the kitchen with her and our space was the living, dining, 2 bedrooms, and bath. However, she invaded all of our spaces the entire time, even knocking on our bedroom door to say she didn't agree that our 8 year old son is left alone in the living room...he was sleeping on the coach. It was a tiny space just a few steps from our bedroom. She came in to the living room every chance she could, coming in drunk at all hours. It was beyond creepy, we had no WiFi and no privacy at all. It was like being thrown into a room mate situation with a bad stranger that was a control freak. Then, there were these loud security alerts every time any door was used that woke us up non-stop, so we got no sleep. There was a 2 inch ledge where a threshold should be at the bottom of the bathroom door that everyone kept tripping over getting really hurt on. There were no dressers or closet space to put our clothes in, but then she text us complaining about our stuff being on the floor. She dressed really inappropriate in front of my family. Our vacation was ruined, then she evicted us when we tried to speak up. I just wanted her to stop coming in the front door since there was a back door in the kitchen she could easily use. She kept waking us up so I just wanted her to turn off the loud security alarms and go through the back door for 1 day so we could sleep. This got us thrown out on the street and Airbnb did NOTHING for us as there were no other places to stay on 4th of July weekend in a tourist town like that. We had to pay a ridiculous amount of money for a hotel, but at least we finally got privacy, some sleep, and knew what to expect in a hotel.

      @@stedmans4christ That sounds AWFUL! Was she a superhost? I'm so surprised that AirBNB didn't do anything! We've had issues with them twice (most recently in Belgrade) and both times they've come around admirably. I would have thought they'd at least pay for your hotel. I did notice you really have to push them though - I had to talk to five people before they did anything.

    I saw a video with two sisters who got an airbnb in france. They where on the 4th floor, it was 2 appartments on every floor. They where supose to have an AC, did not work. They where supose to have a dryer, no dryer. That was the two things they wanted to have. But the worst part was that at 4 am they woke up to a man trying to break in. The cops came and the buzzer to let them in did not work!!!. They did not feel safe at that point. If they needed help for anything there was no way to get people in to help them without going down and letting them in. It took them 10 or 11 days to get help from airbnb!!

    Honestly can understand cameras in some areas. Yes not in the bedrooms or bathrooms. But due to the bad airbnb users who steal, and destroy properties. Including not abiding by the house rules. The grounds of placing security cameras in and around the property is logically sound option. Possibly if a user wants to request removal like some due it opens a ground of trust between host and user. Unfortunately there's those who rush, find a booking, and fail to even check or ask. These people are the ones who end up damaging or stealing from properties. Then denying the accusations claiming there's no proof. Leaving the host out to dry to pay for damages and replacements.

    A/C not a problem, soap not a problem, niceties not a problem (trips are not perfect), the camera that is a huge game changer. Now if the property is not as advertised I would try to change the next day if possible but the cameras are unacceptable that moment that is just very unethical.
